  1. That’s a lengthy summary @janea4old! I hope it wasn’t too much trouble to do and I appreciate the effort you put into all your posts, but I did get a chance to watch some rounds during the week so I am fairly familiar with the process of the clerk (Cheryl Johnson especially needs an all expenses paid vacation at this point!) polling the votes of each Representative-elect. I was just just wondering what time on Friday this melee took place but after posting, I quickly found out. Fridays are now very busy for me and I got home fairly late and was too exhausted to watch all the shenanigans.
  2. Whoa when did this happen? This looks like a wild scene! Obviously it happened yesterday but at what time was this all unfolding?
  3. Just caught Hakeem Jeffries’ speech and the man has bars and undeniable swagger! He makes me miss New York, lol. His flow and content were brilliant. This is the kind of person who would make civics and public service more engaging to people.
  4. In short, no. About a century ago, the vote went through 133 rounds and took two months. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/longest-elect-speaker-house/story?id=96183135
  5. I knew that they reopened the case, but does Brazil even have an extradition policy with the U.S.? I know that the possibility of trying Santos in absentia has also been raised but if he’s extradited, that would make a much stronger case for him being removed from office as he would be unable to do the people’s business. California has a recall system for candidates but I don’t recall NY state having one. A recall election is more expensive and messy. When there is a case being made for a criminal fraud charge, it would save the people time and expense to just make the case that he is unable to do his job while he is in another country defending himself in a criminal case.
  6. Brazil needs to use this time constructively to put their criminal case and hopefully convince the U.S. to extradite George Santos to face those larceny charges.
  7. Nancy knows how to count.

  10. Of course, Gaetz didn’t think twice about adding his committee assignments that haven’t been made official since he’s yet to be sworn in onto his letterhead.
  11. 😆I catch your drift. I took a break after the third round but I plan to catch up later but I take it, not much has changed. A kind of political Groundhog Day, of sorts.
  12. We know it won’t happen but this should put an end to the media constructed narrative about Democrats being the party in disarray when the GOP is showing a whole entire clusterf*uck, the likes of which have not been seen in a century or more, on the House floor. They are truly showing their azzes right now. Don’t get me wrong, I am tickled as can be.
  13. Who are these Democrats who are missing votes on the House floor?? Where are they?! Someone said they can still vote at the end. I hope that’s true.
  14. Bolsonaro, newly minted Florida man, at the trough of one of that state’s KFCs.
  15. Since Bolsonaro absconded without doing his duties in demonstrating the continuity of the presidency through a peaceful transition, Aline Sousa, a sanitation worker and leader of a trash collection union was chosen to place the presidential sash on Lula.
  16. ICYMI- Meanwhile, Lula’s predecessor refused to participate in the inauguration ceremony and fled to Florida (sound familiar?) to (*checks notes*) the home of an MMA fighter, while his wife remains in Brazil.
  17. They were so good in multiple genres. Their influence on music is underrated. Can people please shower Ruth with love and appreciation while we still have her?
  18. Oh, I love me some Donna Summer! I am a disco baby!
  19. Aww, thank you @slick jones! I hope the New Year treats you kindly. That is my hope for all the board members that bring that good, positive energy onto the boards, even when we debate and disagree, we can still keep it civil. Yeah, you know who you all all. 😂 Seriously, I wish you well in 2023.
  20. The NYT is implicated in this also by allowing their platform to broadcast this non-existent “red wave”. The non-paywalled archived link: https://archive.ph/AmdT8
  21. Given the state of her health, this wasn’t a surprise but geez, what an impact, her life and now her passing.
  22. It’s a massively busy Friday for me (or at least it’s going to be soon) but apparently Trump’s taxes have now been released to the public. Cheers.
  23. The love for Pelé is so strong, there is no shortage of gifted articles to go beyond the paywall. Viva O Rei!
