The show also wasted Carl T. Evans who had previously portrayed a teenage Alan-Michael Spaulding on Guiding Light in the late 1980s, by making him, yes, you guessed it, a thoroughly disposable “villain of the month”, to paraphrase @soapfan770. I had forgotten that the show wasted that much talent in their final years.

The Media/Journalism Thread
Not to be railing against the mainstream media but they were the same entities that courted and downplayed the dangers of Trump and they were also glorifying Musk’s SpaceX venture while ignoring his well-documented history of being a horrible boss, running, in essence, a caste system at Tesla. Basically, I am unsurprised that the likes of NBC would punish Collins rather than conduct a serious examination of how Musk is using and abusing his power at Twitter. In the last few hours, I have also heard that Musk shut down Twitter Spaces after learning that a group of journalists were using Twitter Spaces to discuss the recent wave of account suspensions of journalists who had written critically of him. I can’t even imagine any self respecting company wanting to be associated with this dumpster fire of a platform. If such companies still exist, what are they waiting for?

I posted this the other day in regards to another topic, but the sentiment still applies here. These suspensions come on the heels of the disbandment of the Trust and Safety advisory group. I doubt that the two occurrences are unrelated. Also, the reason many people claim to want to keep accounts is due to the presence of journalists on the platform, but if Musk can just banish them by fiat, even if he later restores those accounts, what does that say for the stability and trustworthiness of the platform? By the way, I think the site lost those aspects months ago, imo. I am hearing that Twitter has banned Mastodon and is blocking all links to the Mastodon site.

The largest nurses strike in England in at least a 100 years (and the BBC World News decides to make Harry& Meghan the 2nd lead headline and slaps “Breaking News” on that headline but not the nursing strike?) One of my aunts who was a nurse with the NHS for 30 years until she got so disgusted with England and repatriated to her birthplace, would probably be nodding her head in agreement with this strike.

RIP: In Memoriam Thread
The comments that are so judgmental and critical of the person in the wake of a suicide is striking. I will never understand some people’s constant need to judge what goes on behind closed doors or in a person’s consciousness without having ever having had a conversation with that person. It baffles me how people can make the most vitriolic toxic judgements based on what they believe they know about people. Bizarre.

He was such a generous performer, to the point where it seemed as though he might have ceded the spotlight a bit to others on stage at times. This is one of the pieces where he really shined, literally and figuratively. Such a fun performance. He really was one of the most memorable dancers on that show.

People already whining about their long time faves not being in the Netflix docuseries fail to realize that they’re obviously trying to highlight a younger generation. Most of the veterans don’t need to introduce themselves to the public, people already know who they are as well as their personal biographies.

Oh God. There are just no words. We are losing so many people and so many of them are at young ages. Life is really tough for a number of people right now. Even personally, I can attest to this. You truly never know what someone is enduring these days.

NETFLIX: "Harry and Meghan"
And the BBC broadcasted it as “Breaking News” during their World News broadcast when the uploads launched last Thursday, which was totally ridiculous. They clearly have an interest in keeping Harry and Meghan in the news. They needn’t push so forcefully, they’ll have another bite at the Apple when Harry’s memoir launches. For now, they need to ease up and at least pretend to be a news broadcaster. That goes for the rest of the rubberneckers.

Bankruptcy is beginning to look more like reality and less like a joke being bandied about social media. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/twitter-is-reportedly-not-paying-rent-for-its-offices-as-musk-warns-users-to-beware-of-debt/ar-AA15ggL4 Musk also disbanded the Trust and Safety group , among a host of other cost cutting measures, and more firings, of course. https://www.seattletimes.com/business/musk-shakes-up-twitters-legal-team-as-he-looks-to-cut-more-costs/ Perhaps this is wild speculation but, it sounds extreme and unsettling. If I still had an account on Twitter, I would be worried, tbh. https://news.yahoo.com/twitter-considering-forcing-users-let-104742421.html

All those people who wouldn’t stop squawking helped to make this happen. Netflix must be over the moon, they needed a hit and they only had to release two trailers and let the whiners do the work.

This doesn’t exactly belong in this thread but honestly @Errol, I don’t know where to put this wonderfully affirming article about a newly constructed space in Harlem for BroSis, the 27 year old organization co-founded by Khary Lazarre-White, who I instantly knew had to be the brother of Adam Lazarre-White (Y&R Nathan Hastings #3).

It’s also about how a former tabloid editor can one day become PM. Harry seems to have a genuine hatred and fear of the tabloids in particular, from how he speaks of them. Although unfortunate, it wouldn’t be surprising if he pulled back from direct analysis as he seems to repeatedly accuse them of having a direct connection in his mother’s demise and continues to claim that he doesn’t want to lose another woman he loves to the same fate. Even before he met Meghan when he was wilding out, he gave the impression that he both loathed and feared the tabloids.

Didn’t John Oliver do an entire episode about the British tabloid media, or was it someone else? I thought it was well known that the PR flank of TRF feeds informational tidbits to the press in exchange for flattering and/or less intrusive coverage. When someone no longer wants to ‘play the game’, it’s likely considered an affront, in breach of an informal contract and elicits an aggressive media response. Because of John Oliver I became aware that TRF hosts an annual event for media and invites the tabloids alongside media stalwarts like the BBC. That would be like the National Enquirer being invited to be part of the White House press pool or the WHCD, or even to follow the East Wing on a diplomatic tour.

Patti LaBelle escorted off stage due to bomb threat
What an unfortunate thing to happen but I am glad you and Ms. Patti and everyone else is okay. Thinking about all the things that have happened in public spaces where people are gathered trying to simply enjoy themselves. Still it is sad that this is the reality of being gathered anywhere.Hopefully you will get to see her sometime soon in the future.

Well, returning some of the stolen antiquities back to their countries of origin would be a good place to start. From the British Museum, to Buckingham Palace—they have the literal wealth that was looted from other lands stored in their buildings. Gold from Africa and India, antiquities and valuables from these continents plus Persia. And the money extracted from slavery is well documented in their financial ledgers— I have personally visited the British Museum, the Imperial Museum, Buckingham Palace and have seen this with my own eyes, while a student. The documentation of the wealth generated is online for anyone who cares to see. This isn’t a question of perception, these are cold hard facts, in literal black and white. The only reason why Buckingham Palace was ever opened up to the public at all (and some spaces are still closed to the public) is because TRF was forced to open their doors to the hoi polloi because they were no longer allowed to operate on the taxpayer dole. It’s not the White House, you have to pay a fee to gain entry. That money goes into the coffers of TRF, but that is for their tax burden, that is separate from inherited wealth. How do people think Charles acquired the money to purchase all that land for investment? If H&M don’t want to move on, then they are perfectly in line with the Brits. Seriously have you ever lived in England. I have never lived in a place so taken with the past. Only when it comes to their history of colonialism and enslavement do they ever speak of moving on. Otherwise, it is reliving past glories on a continual loop. I was constantly reminded of the glories of “The Blitz” and the rebuild after “The Blitz”, while conveniently forgetting that they used auxiliary forces from their colonies in the Caribbean, the Indian subcontinent and Africa. Everybody’s history seems to be selective, not just H&M.

Reading your posts, I consider you to be a highly learned person. We’re all still learning, at least we should be. It’s not surprising that in the U.S. people wouldn’t know this, especially considering the curriculum that is most commonly taught. In the U.K. though, there is a lot of boasting about just how ahead England supposedly was in emancipating slaves in their colonies, while neglecting to tell the rest of the story. They fondly tell some of the story, they just don’t tell all of it, which is just as awful as not telling at all, as it is lies by omission.

Ms. Patti looked as if she were going going to wrestle for that microphone until she understood why they wanted her to leave the stage. It must have been scary to realize why.
