  1. It doesn't feel like there are any rivalries of that kind in tennis right now. Maybe that's why it feels a bit boring..... Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, when I was following tennis more closely, there was a lot more of that. Or at least it felt that way. It didn't feel like Sampras and Agassi were the best of friends. Sampras and Rafter had a few incidents as well. I always got the impression that Graf and Sanchez-Vicario weren't on the best of terms either. And of course Martina Hingis vs almost everyone.....

  3. I just had to revive this old thread. I was browsing on YouTube and found this old gem. This is the opening from a German tv-series for kids from the 1970s. I remember this very well from my childhood, but I had no idea that it could be found on YouTube.

  8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM0pD5NbQKY I can't stop listening to 60s music right now. A tv-channel here has just started re-airing "Heartbeat" from the very first episode, and it was such a fantastic show the first few years..... It's just a little bittersweet when you know what's coming.....
  9. A bit late, but so sad about Richard Thorp. Alan was no longer a regular presence on the show towards the end of course, so his absence might not really make a difference, but he was one of the last ties to Emmerdale pre-Dingles. Now I think Eric, Betty and Victoria are the only characters left from when Emmerdale was Dingle-free. And Victoria only in name, since she was born in 1994, the year when the Dingles first entered the show. A dark year in Emmerdale history, at least for me, since I intensely dislike that whole family. The Sugdens have been almost obliterated, but it feels like a new Dingle crawls out from under a rock (or wherever they come from) every year.

  14. I just received the first volume of "Emmerdale Farm" on dvd, and it really was a completely different show back then. Everything, and I do mean everything has changed! Naturally the characters are completely new, and the village, but also the surrounding countryside. It was much more open and harsher back when the show started. Much more like I imagine Yorkshire, compared to what we see now. So far 4 volumes have been released (I've already ordered volume 2) and I hope they continue releasing more. The show only aired twice a week back then, with seasonal breaks, so it shouldn't be impossible for them to release several years worth of episodes.
