As The World Turns Discussion Thread
The first 20 minutes of an ATWT episode (October 20, 1993) I don't think is on Youtube. With commercials, so that means less clips of the show. Sometimes I think I exaggerate how many times the show had Lily going into "I Can't Make You Love Me" around this point, but nope, there's that music cue again right at the start... https://archive.org/details/n9v9r5aynev9ra9a1n38993vhs/4.+As+the+World+Turns+-+10-20-1993.mp4

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
This scene really sums up much of what was pushing me away from GL at this time - shrillness, unpleasantness, a slew of bad recasts, etc. Thank goodness for Michael Zaslow and for Maeve Kinkead and Maureen Garrett bringing some heart to the last minute or so. A world away from that lousy Billy recast cracking me up as he walks on tables. Much as I generally l liked Dylan, there was also something satisfying about the show remembering that given his many years of training, Roger could whoop his ass.

You often hear Beltway talking points about how the GOP no longer cares about gay rights or lgbt rights, and what a sign of progress this is. That's a lie, This is today's GOP, and it wins elections, because many people live and breathe hate. At least this repulsive man is honest, unlike his party, and the reporters who lick their feet.

That's one of the reasons I'm always wary of these dupe accounts that just keep reposting episodes already available. It just starts to get sloppy after a while.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I can't remember all that Kathryn said, but I think it was after Nick and Kim had their big romantic rendezvous in Greece. Kathryn said she got a lot of angry letters at the time. I suppose the P&G audience was not expecting her to be in that type of setting relatively quickly (by ATWT standards of that era) after Dan's death. They did have some fans (my mother was a fan of the pairing), but the little I've seen of them mostly suggests Kim having to stand behind and watch Steve and Nick measuring contests.

Then when sleazy Brad came on the show, Lisa was wrapped around his finger. And of course James (which I think viewers accepted more because Anthony Herrera was so charismatic and handsome), and Nick (where Kathryn Hays got hate mail for the pairing). It's a really ugly time for many of the women of Oakdale. I think this was post-Dobsons, but the scene of Steve just berating Kim as she stands there helpless and mute always stays with me.

I was 100% in the same place until I realized Cheney is no better. But hopefully others on the panel will be more likely to do something - more than the DOJ is, anyway. We'll see.

I'm not sure who to believe here. I don't really trust either of them. Considering Merrick Garland's lackadaisal DOJ run thus far, I'm tempted to believe Wilson, but we'll see. Either way it already seems to be more of the same posturing.

I tend to agree, but at this point I think saying people are likely fed up of Manchin and Sinema is like saying the sky is blue. I just want to know if those Democratic senators who are supposedly upset with him will stop partying on his yacht. In other not so shocking news...

Disney+: WandaVision
I'm hoping they will do this rather than just use the "Loki" template for her (which worked but would feel redundant if done over and over. There's a lot to explore with Agatha. I'm glad they saw this, even if I know her becoming such a big fan favorite/social buzz creator was likely the key.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I assume Whit was always going to die for the sake of the big murder mystery, but some actors at the time have mentioned how chaotic the behind the scenes atmosphere was at this point. (I think the guy who played Ernie on Edge of Night wrote that - didn't he say he was told he couldn't look at a certain cast member, or something...). I think the role was miscast. The actor who played Whit always seemed offputting to me.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Yes. Liam is now an amoral, one note thug, like so many others on the show. I finally decided this week to fully stop watching until Kate Oates and Jon Sen are both gone. I know many would sell a kidney for her, but I just can't take any more of their work.

Shortland Street
The actress who plays Harper recently revealed that she is pregnant - due in December - and that her pregnancy was written into the script in a hurry. https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/tv-radio/126581909/from-heartache-to-baby-joy-for-shortland-street-actor-ria-vandervis I wonder if this may be one of the reasons Tom was moved out of her story, even though that had been built up for some weeks, and put into the unpleasant stuff with Rico that really made him look completely wretched.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Very briefly, yes. The key scenes where she should have reunited with Whitney and Tiffany were left offcamera. She will be interacting with Liam, as they will be working on a scam together, apparently.

It's not really about "shock" as much as realization. Silly on my part, clearly, but I wanted to believe there was a thin reason to hope there would eventually be some kind of positive change after all the people who died for that to happen...even up to this year, people risking their lives in a pandemic to stand in line all day and vote. And the party they did that for is led by people who are sitting on a yacht and telling them to go to hell. So yes, I was not really expecting that particular gift, which is not a mistake I will make again.

They had a scene when John returned for the final weeks, which surprised me. I think that's a part of it. I also think that Goutman's lack of care was incredibly obvious at the end. Ellen Wheeler faced the same budget issues as ATWT, yet she still brought people back and tried to honor the history of GL more. Goutman did not. At the time, there were heavy attempts to gaslight people into seeing this as a wonderful finale. I never believed it and I never will. The only thing I believed is that most of the writers at Daytime Confidential sucked.

We did get a number of characters who were moving on with their lives without a romantic relationship, like Lisa, Luke, Holden and Lily (although they were likely going to reunite). It's just the stories were either nonexistent, or badly told.

The image of Joe Manchin on the edge of his ugly yacht, shaming Americans as being "entitled" so therefore refusing to do anything but the bare minimum in a stimulus, will always stay with me. I truly hate what this country has become and how much further we keep falling.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I suppose with Barbara, I felt like the character had been all over the place in her personality and stories for decades (even in "better" times, they would have her having a baby with John, which I just did not really buy), so as long as it was not more of the same cartoonish behavior that she had under Sheffer, I didn't find it to be a departure. I do see it as more of a departure for Lucinda, but then I felt like Lucinda had spent the last year of the show having more agency again and making the choices - and mistakes in some cases - on what do with her life when her schemes came out, rather than what would often happen to the character (being punished and having to start over). But then, I had stopped watching ATWT a long time before it ended (my viewing became more and more sporadic starting in 1996 and then pretty much died from 2002 to 2009), so maybe I just can't have the same opinion as someone who went through more of those periods.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread
Perry Stephens and Chris Marcantel were gorgeous. You'd never think, looking at these photos, that Lily would be gone within a year and Stacey would become the central heroine. You'd almost think she was the closeted lesbian sidekick. Lauren Marie Taylor must have felt satisfied when Lily returned to be a spoiler for her story only a few years later. I never can remember that vamping woman in the first photo...Rita Mae?

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I used to watch Strictly Come Dancing, and enjoyed Holly as a contestant. She was clearly not into all the training and angst the show pushes on you, and I don't know if she wanted to stay as long as she did, but she had some standout moments: However, if she's a friend of Dorit's, then I can't imagine there being a great deal to recommend.

Emerson is not a reliable poll. It's bad for Democrats, but if you follow the media you are going to just make yourself sick. They hate us. They would laugh if we all died. They have an agenda and they are not hiding it. I would just say prepare yourself for the hard times to come and ignore the press and the pollsters.

I wish they had brought back Penny or Don, or anyone really, but for the most part I thought it was OK. I was glad they remembered her daughter Susan, as that story was what set up the early tensions in the show.
