  1. Kasie, yet another Republican enabler at CNN, makes sure to platform push polls to try to help Republicans in Colorado (the media has been trying hard to will this into happening).
  2. Yes, this was during a deglammed period for Jill. This is the peril of just watching random clips.
  3. Thanks. As a number of people said at the time of Newman's casting, I doubt they had any plans to keep the character on the show, with him or with Burgi.
  4. I'd love to see it. I don't know what Robert Newman or Melinda Fee are doing on there though.
  5. The Beltway is already trying to dismiss this, but Mary Peltola has become the first Democrat in 50 years to win Alaska's House seat. Yes, ranked-choice voting helped, and yes, Sarah Palin is a deeply loathsome, pathetic figure who fled Alaska for greener pastures then returned when she and her daughter both belly-flopped, but in a number of years that still wouldn't have been enough. Peltola won on her own merits and due to current trends. I just hope that can translate to something positive for November.
  6. I guess Weigel's carrying water for Smith paid off. Maybe he can also be humiliated by Faux News celebrities.
  7. @slick jonesI saw your listing for Lisa Peluso - not sure if you already had this update but a July 1976 soap magazine lists her as a newcomer to ATWT and mentions her character being named Muffy McCarty.
  8. Thanks. I guess McConnell recently groveling to Oz/Masters/etc. at a rally tells you who is winning that battle. I saw a recent clip of Vance on !@#$%^&*] Carlson...frankly, you could tell he had been eating his feelings, and he was as smarmy and smug as ever. He's lucky that he's in a red state and that Tim Ryan, last seen contorting over student debt, isn't the most dynamic of candidates. I do think Masters is in a more precarious position, but the polls showing lunatic Lake winning the gubernatorial race make me nervous. The best thing going for Democrats aside from Dobbs may be that Trump still defines the GOP yet he is not actually on the ballot. That may make a difference in Arizona, where I think Martha McSally only did as well as she did in 2020 because of Trump.
  9. Good eye @j swift . I am trying to remember if the soaps here ever had a major character named Mavis. Corrie, of course, had an iconic character with that name.
  10. @Faulkner Yes, every week I check to see if the song is still on the charts. I know some are sick of hearing it, but I'm just glad Kate finally has her moment in the US. I do wish some of her other songs could get some traction too as she has so many classics, but that won't take away from what she has accomplished here, and apparently some of those songs actually have benefited: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/kate-bush-stranger-things-sync-warner-music-1235197021/
  11. Unless Georgia reverts to Republicans excelling in runoffs (very possible), Georgia's runoff system may help keep Warnock's chances viable (although the closer Kemp gets to avoiding a runoff the warier I am as that will also benefit Walker). I've tried not to go near some of the circle jerking on Twitter about how Walker can't win. He is in many ways a perfect candidate for the state, ticking boxes of diversity while being a brain dead right wing stooge. It took a lot of breaks in 2020-1 for Warnock and Ossoff to win - awful opponents who could not hide behind any football glory (Kelly Loeffler may have been one of the worst candidates in years and years), Biden's team investing heavily in Georgia, the stupid decision by McConnell to not allow more stimulus checks, and finally, high-profile Trump supporters outright telling Georgia Republicans to not vote in the runoff. Warnock is a very strong senator and candidate, and as you said, a candidate for the future, so I'm really hoping he has a good shot. There are too many shaky races (NH, NV) and if Georgia goes the most we may get is more 50-50 (and that's mostly down to Oz because I have little to no faith in Fetterman). I don't agree with the people who are claiming that Democrats are only doing well in special elections because of the level of intensity they bring compared to a midterm, but I do have my worries about just how November might go. I am just trying to remind myself of how unreliable polling is, good or bad, and try to find a reason to get through each day.

  13. There were the Crossthwaites, Annie's cousins (although I know Annie was not a blood Sugden). I was thinking more along the lines of bringing in a long-lost child for Joe or Jack. Saying that Marian's child was Jack's after all would be a good way to tie 50 years of history into present day.
  14. Perusing the minor characters list briefly reminded me of confusing it was to see Bill Shanks pop up on AW months after a high-profile exit on ATWT. I wonder if he was ever planned to have a larger role.
  15. Another Daily Caller booster reminding us why CNN is propaganda.
  16. Kevin McCarthy isn't long for power either way. He has no charisma, no backbone, and will be seen as the main enemy if he is Speaker and doesn't call for all Democrats to be lined up in the street and shot. He's a loser in every way, just like his old cronies Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor.
  17. I hated a lot of Corrie's 50th, so I will probably have a higher opinion of this by default, but they have done nothing to make me care. Or much of anyone. This would be the perfect time to bring in another offshoot of the Sugdens, or ask Karl Davies if he might return for one episode, or even Kelvin for one episode, but it's a lot of nothing.
  18. This story with Hannah is odd. Was the house meant to be haunted (by Julie or someone)? @Ben ? I don't know if this was seen as doldrums period for the show, although I can see why Annalise was popular, and Jason Donovan's father is more likeable onscreen than he tended to be.
  19. Kelli Giddish (ex-AMC) has been let go from SVU, which has been causing Twitter trends and backlash from some fans. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/why-is-kelli-giddish-leaving-law-and-order-svu-1235350955/
  20. Yes, many DW episodes were junked, and some that were saved were saved only because of filing errors or because the titles of episodes made someone think they were news or documentary. So many shows being junked, and films, radio, etc. hurts my heart. Like the story about Colleen Moore donating all her films for preservation, only to later learn after donating them that they had been rotted away. Every day I check to see if some media has been recovered, even for some movie I'm never going to see. I used to read all about the old newspaper strips and wonder about whether they were saved. I would guess they are on microfiche somewhere, but so much stuff has been left out decaying or is accidentally destroyed, who knows. It doesn't help that most material is so hard to find. I know someone on Twitter who posts old Gasoline Alley strips but if there are any books they're hugely priced.
  21. Yes. I used to say that Emmerdale of all the soaps was the one that managed to still have relatively decent quality with 6 (they've had since for 10+ years), but the bottom of the show has really fallen out over the last 5 years. I don't believe any UK soap should have more than 4 episodes a week, and even that is pushing it.
