  1. At the very least they should make more special episodes as soon as they can to serve as a palate-cleanser to the months of dross they have to burn through.
  2. The problem is most of the older viewers who would use a streaming service are probably not who would be sitting through a soap, especially not one that is as poor as DAYS has been in recent years. I hope they make it work but this feels like a death sentence to me.
  3. I would miss the 90 minute format, but many other changes (like not needing Update every week or just having one musical performance a week, or even changing up the writing schedule) I really wouldn't be as sorry to see, to be honest...although whether we'd get another show, who knows. As you said, this is better suited for the SNL thread.
  4. The show has been under strict network control before (especially in the mid-late '90s) and it benefited them in some ways as Lorne has a lot of bad habits. There are plenty who could replace him, including some who now work there under him. The show, if it stays on, is likely going to face big budget cuts either way, but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. With that said, this DAYS news makes that seem less likely...
  5. The SNL episodes on there are hacked to bits, although I guess that doesn't matter to everyone. At one point Lorne said he wanted SNL to go on without him, but then Kenan Thompson went out and very heavy-handedly suggested SNL should end when he retires, so who knows what they are planning now. I hope NBC will try at least one season without him as I don't think the show needs to shut down just because his ego isn't there. As for this news, I'm astonished. There seemed to be zero notice. A nearly 60 year old show just dumped from the network. Many of the viewers will not be going to Peacock. Is this just a way for them to kill the show off without getting as much backlash? This is on paper something that could keep the genre going, but when you have one of the WORST HEADWRITERS OF ALL TIME there, it's difficult to be optimistic. Still, if any show can survive into a new era it's DAYS, I suppose.
  6. Thanks for looking, I really appreciate it.
  7. It was mainly mentioned in passing as part of her credits alongside the Ed Sullivan Show appearances and her dancing, so probably around the late '40s or early-mid '50s (she went to Hollywood for a while in the early '50s so not that point)
  8. Always sad to hear of things like this - my thoughts with their loved ones.
  9. More of the Beltway shitting out their talking points.
  10. And the usual defensive responses: These are the same figures who assured us that the GOP would not have a problem because it's all about inflation and wokeness. I already put Maga Haberman's posturing in the media thread. I do think there's a big question mark over how much this will be harnessed outside of this amendment - Kris Kobach, one of the biggest extremists in the country, won the GOP attorney general nomination so if there's any real chance of this making positive change I hope the Democrats might have some chance to win that race in November. If nothing else there is at least some semblance of Democrats being able to find a message that will resonate, enough to possibly avert a complete electoral bloodbath, which is probably why the media is so unnerved this morning. They would sell their whole family for a GOP trifecta.
  11. Thanks, @Vee that was very touching, and sincere.
  12. I agree. The closest for me would probably be GL's finale, due to all the returns and as it was clearly done with love even if the product was all over the place, but there aren't many. I can't see any of the remaining soaps having this type of sendoff. It feels very much like another end to an era.
  13. Maggie Haberman already has her talking points in line (Nina Turner, who likely works for many of the same people, is also rolling these out).
  14. It seems like much more of the press for this album has ended up being about fighting or her fans dragging people (Kelis, Diane Warren, Monica Lewinsky) over the music itself.
  15. Thanks so much. I appreciate all your research and your quick response.
  16. I was listening to a podcast about the actress Helen Wood, and there was a brief mention of her being on soaps. I didn't see any of these credits for her on IMDB - I assume whatever they were were small roles, but I was just wondering if there are any listings. I did search but didn't find them...sorry if I missed it.
  17. The show itself kept getting the year wrong (as time passed they started calling it 1797, I believe, and of course there was material in 1796), so that isn't something you have to worry about with DS.
  18. Please consider starting from the beginning. The pre-Barnabas material is some of my favorite of the whole run, especially once they get into the supernatural elements.
  19. You will be shocked that NYT reporters are going out of their way to scorn the same thing the Beltway cried tears of gratitude over Trump doing.
  20. He also went out of his way to kill Murder She Wrote. I would count that, and Dr. Quinn, more than Murphy Brown, which had been running on fumes creatively (although as you mentioned the last season, which was pretty much always meant to be the last season, was when they tanked). There's also this: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/designing-women-creator-les-moonves-not-all-harassment-is-sexual-1142448/
  21. @Vee I thought of your posts about Stelter when I saw this (naturally he turned off replies). I see that Amy Walter, whose job often seems to be to shame people for ever feeling optimistic about Democratic chances, has been deployed to throw cold water over some recent polls and claim that every midterm cycle the party that loses will briefly seem to be coming back. I don't disagree with that, necessarily, but I just hate the scolding, smug nature of the people who work for Cook, and how much they struggle to hide their bias toward the GOP.
