Thanks. Never heard of this show.
  2. @I Am A Swede thanks for letting us know they are now putting up episodes that are totally unknown. If the channel lasts I hope they can get into the '80s. Years like 1984 are wastelands.
  3. It's uncanny. I suppose it's the benefit of stage training (and not smoking).
  4. I figured it meant fight scenes, but who knows. Either way, I agree what we got onscreen was not the original plan. So much of the story seems made up on the fly. Going back to the earlier Paulina discussion about her being a victim in Cali's eyes, I can understand why she felt that way. There was a lot of material in that timeframe of Jake strongarming and harassing Paulina, and she was on the backfoot with the Corys too.
  5. I never really saw Lucas or Frankie as that easy of stereotypes. I felt like Swajeski tried hard (too hard for my taste) to show all sides of Frankie and she seemed to adore her. I do agree that Swajeski could have had more layered new characters, but the last time AW seemed to know how to do that was around 83-84.
  6. Thanks. That makes sense. It's interesting they assumed viewers wouldn't really notice bringing him in for another part when he was recurring as another doctor. I wonder why they didn't just have him as Hadley. Maybe there was already a Haskell in story for this period. (unless the voiceover just misspoke)
  7. I think this was true for those first few years of the character. Once Kimberley came in that's where both Seneca and Rae start to suffer. I do think there's an argument that both may have just reached a natural end, although both Louise and John still did their best and had a few interesting relationships (not involving her).
  8. A very early Erika Slezak audio as Viki.
  9. @slick jones I am confused about a bit at the end. The voiceover guy says today Addison Powell played "Dr. Haskell." Wasn't Addison already playing another part on the show at this time? Or had he been in a previous role? Doesn't this type of announcing mean he was a temp recast? Who usually played Haskell? Or was this just a minor role?
  10. Thanks for watching. It came and went as most of his post-Cosby Show projects did until Cosby. I had never paid attention to it but the uploader kindly lists the names of guest stars and I've been surprised at the amount of NY-based soap talent. Another reminder of what we've lost with no NY-based soaps. Those are great ideas. The show seemed to lose all interest in Hamp after he and Gilly split up. I can't even remember if they put up a card acknowledging Williams' passing.
  11. Thanks for the clip. You'd almost think they were setting up a relationship but both have naturally flirty voices (when Nikki isn't being bitchy). I wonder if that was the interim writers from the strike starting to seep through as that type of interaction feels very alien from where Bell was taking Y&R by that point.
  12. Jordan Clarke has a few scenes starting at 32 minutes.
  13. Thanks @Maxim . I had forgotten about the brief stuff with Alex and Herb. I know someone ages ago may have posted Tony Call's comments about this period or his exit but I don't know where they'd be. I think we're entering the period where they don't quite know where to take Alex after Carlo's sudden murder. That was a good clip with Blair and Dorian. Both giving as good as they got. Mia really could play anything and had such a natural soap opera flair. Now I have a mental image of Julia Medina popping a squat.
  14. I think Louise did well with what she could on Ryan's Hope, especially those first few years before Kimberley. Search, she was badly miscast, as that character was a live wire. Even the actress who played Rae's friend Polly would have been more logical to me as Stephanie.
  15. Thanks. I do like Judi and she made Paulina her own in time (aside from all the crying in those last few years), but Cali really is special. She is my favorite Paulina. Sorry to hear she struggled so much offcamera but I definitely can see where the set wasn't too happy by that point (and probably hadn't been for some time). In some ways I think it helped her work as she had such frailty as Paulina to balance out her schemes. Interesting to learn she was meant to be someone else's child. I wonder if she was meant to be Felicia's daughter?
  16. I'm curious as to what the similarities may be as I find the UK soaps very bad most of the time now and from what I've read no one would really say BtG is bad. I also don't see them as using simple music cues as I feel like they (especially Corrie now) go the opposite way. I am biased, admittedly, so maybe those who are enjoying the UK soaps at the moment are finding those same positives in this show.
  17. Someone told me that the last season of Adventures of Pete and Pete will likely never be released on DVD because the master tapes were decayed. And that was a well-loved cult show.
  18. Sometimes I wonder if they just had her come out as a lesbian as some kind of parallel to the Vincent and Chad storyline. Chad seemed to be another case of an iffy recast. Not really sure what to say about any of that story. It seemed like a lot of the stories for Simone or Jessica became much darker when they got older. I don't know if that was just the show getting darker or if JER ran out of ideas for them. I haven't watched tons and tons but I was more impressed by Travis Schuldt's Ethan than I was in past glimpses - he really fits the mold of rich, snobbish Crane and good-hearted Sam son. Eric is decent, he's always had a lot of presence, but it's tough to buy him as a Crane. I didn't even know they'd recast Paloma. I mostly saw her in some of the later material, where some kind of little person is trying to ruin her relationship with Noah for some reason.
  19. I have my shares of criticisms of Broderick's writing at other shows (especially ATWT, although similar to some of her work at OLTL and AMC I think those choices were down to network pressures), but I don't think she was responsible for anything that went wrong at GL.
  20. He seemed to work out in how he was used on Search and Y&R, but even if his exit is always called a mistake (including in this interview), I never thought he was used well on RH. He went from being a thug who unwittingly caused Siobhan to have a miscarriage to being a piece of ass tied to an exhausting and overexposed storyline. Kirkland's Hope has always gotten more attention, I guess because it was an easy nickname given to the press by the fed up actors on the show, but for me the mob element and the chronicles of Kimberley's loins were a much more long-running and corrosive problem. I know Labine mentioned seeing Rae/Michael as a love story in one SOD article on bad strike decisions - if she really did then no wonder Rae was in such a poor state as a character by this time.
  21. Thanks @te. I don't think I ever heard the theme. That show came and went so fast and primetime soaps were over by then.
  22. @MLH Welcome to the board. I can see where the treatment of Michael Zaslow - some of the most shameful in soap history - would cause you, or any viewer, to quit watching. Whatever one feels about Roger and Holly, they did have a very compelling, complicated connection for most of their return, until McTavish and Laibson just junked all of it, aside from maybe one or two scenes. I never will get what the logic was. You're right about the Roger/Blake relationship - just two very broken people.
  23. Thanks a lot @chrisml
  24. Thanks for sharing. I never would have known otherwise. I prefer show interviews this way rather than the grab bag quotes. No surprises in here about Rauch, Behr, Swift, etc. but still, I appreciate hearing a new voice lay them out in such detail. The Swift story is especially juicy. Also didn't know how much people in the cast opposed Michael Corbett, but it makes sense - I can see why someone at the show or the network latched onto him, but he really did come out of nowhere and was forced in. I wonder if that's why Daniel Hugh Kelly quit. The lighting definitely does seem to become much more generic with Joe Hardy. I do think Cali Timmins was good from fairly early on.
  25. An interview posted on the Ryan's Hope thread last night mentioned Michael Levin throwing chairs. Did you see the Catlins thread link I posted?
