  1. Dear Members: I'm continuing to monitor and investigate two technical issues that have arisen in recent weeks: the error 500 message and login/logout issues affecting some users. One method provided to combat the problem was to delete any potentially old files/folders from earlier versions of the message boards that could be causing a conflict, even if not actively used, and ensure all files are strictly from the latest version of our community software (Invision Community V5). I completed the file exchange just moments ago, which forced a short period of downtime. As far as I'm aware, other than a change in the file structure, the SON Community should be running normally. If it's not, please let me know. If you find any further issues, particularly the aforementioned two that the update was meant to fix, please also provide your input.
  2. Should have honorable mentions: Robin Strasser, Anthony Geary, Kim Zimmer, and Elizabeth Hubbard

  5. During the final episode of her daytime talk show on Thursday, May 21, Sherri Shepherd announced her next career move as a fiction writer. Shepherd revealed during her final opening monologue, wearing a Schiaparelli blazer dress, Esor Marie shoes and Alexis Bittar jewelry, that she’s been working on a new book alongside USA Today bestselling author Jayci Lee, titled “Life is a K Drama,” which is scheduled to be published by MIRA Books on Tuesday, April 6, 2027, with Michele Bidelspach, Executive Editor at MIRA, acquiring the world rights from Albert Lee and Lisa Grubka at UTA. “Just because this is my last show, it does not mean that you’ve seen the last of me,” said Shepherd during the broadcast. “I’m going to tell you, you know, I’m like a good lace front. I’m not going anywhere. I’m stuck to you like wig glue.” “Life is a K Drama” “I’m so excited because I’ve been working on something very, very special. And I’ve talked to everybody,” continued Shepherd. “So, if you know me, you know how much I love, and I am just obsessed with K-dramas. I watch them all the time. Sometimes till 4 in the morning, and then I’m sleepy when I come here. I love K-dramas so much that I did something huge. I wrote a book and my book is called ‘Life is a K Drama,’ and I’m writing it with USA Today bestselling author Jayci Lee. And this is about a single mom named Keisha. She’s trying to turn her Harlem neighborhood restaurant into a household name. But then Kesha meets a fine Korean business magnet named Seojun. And you know, if anybody watches K-dramas, you know, it’s like a slow burn. It’s a slow burn. You get to the end, and then it’s exquisite, the intimacy factor. And so I was like, ‘Oh yeah, this is going to be good.’ I’d never gotten to write some good sex scenes, but whoa, they are in here. In addition to the new book, Shepherd and Lee have also launched a new podcast series called “Auntie & Ajumma,” which she said is “all about K-drama connections and everything that we learn and just all fun stuff.” “Life is a K Drama” is described as a sweeping, cinematic love story glowing with humor, heart, and hard-won hope that is a heartfelt love letter to K-dramas, following an interracial, contemporary romance between a single mom whose chance to turn her neighborhood restaurant into a household name is upended by an unexpected spark with a swoon-worthy Korean business magnate. Keisha Thomson loves K-dramas, but she never thought her life would turn into one. Keisha is a 37-year-old divorced mom of her beloved autistic son, Kai, and the ambitious owner of True Soul, a Harlem soul-food restaurant. Set between Harlem and Seoul, the novel follows bold but pragmatic Keisha, charming yet duty-bound Han Seojun, and the viral red velvet cake that brings them together. What begins as a cultural and culinary clash becomes a whirlwind romance that upends everything they thought they knew about love, ambition, and what it means to put yourself first. According to the publisher, the novel is for anyone who’s ever rebuilt themselves from scratch, and, importantly, it’s not just a romance between Keisha and Seojun; it’s also a love story about family, food, and culture. 6. As has been the tradition for several years, “General Hospital” will once again air an encore on Memorial Day (Monday, May 25), with the long-running soap opera returning with originals on Tuesday, May 26. The episode selected to air on the holiday features “One Life to Live” icon Erika Slezak (ex-Victoria Lord Buchanan) as Ronnie Bard, the long-lost sister of the late Monica Quartermaine (the late Leslie Charleson). In the episode, which originally aired on November 3, 2025 (#15828), Ronnie is about to sell the Quartermaine house when Tracy (Jane Elliot) arrives with Monica’s real will, exposing Martin (Michael E. Knight) for forging the previous version and blackmailing Ronnie. Rory Gibson, Jane Elliot, Amanda Setton, Wally Kurth, Steve Burton, Erika Slezak, Lisa LoCicero With the revelation, Ronnie destroys the sale agreement, prompting Drew (Cameron Mathison) to storm out, and Michael (Rory Gibson) shares that Monica actually left the house to Tracy, not him, per the terms of the will. Meanwhile, Martin rushes to his sister, Laura (Genie Francis), to confess. Elsewhere, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) looks into Portia (Brook Kerr) as a possible suspect in Drew’s shooting, and Emma (Braedyn Bruner) grows suspicious of Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) and Dalton’s (Daniel Goddard) secretive project. Later, Portia walks in on Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Jordan (Tanisha Harper) kissing after learning that Curtis knows about her pregnancy, and Sidwell (Carlo Rota) unsuccessfully tries to convince Laura to back his takeover of Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) piers. Though the overall episode wasn’t Slezak’s last on the show, it did show that Monica’s real will had Ronnie receive a locket and sufficient funds to purchase a home of her choice in Duke Forest, a neighborhood in Durham, North Carolina, which Ronnie noted was her favorite. Meanwhile, the true “sister of her heart,” Tracy (Jane Elliot), received the Q house. “I can’t believe she even remembered that,” said Ronnie after hearing what was in Monica’s will, as stated by Ned (Wally Kurth). “Oh, my god,” Ronnie continued in tears. Addressing Monica’s spirit, she added, “When I was 16, you turned me away, and now you’ve given me a house. Thank you so much.” Looking over the new will, Michael points out that the only thing changed from the real will to the fake one was Ronnie getting the house instead of Tracy, although Ned noted that the jar of Pickle-Lila, which, per the fake will, was to go to Tracy, was another addition by Martin. “Told you Monica would never be that cruel,” responded Tracy in response to the pickle reference. In a message shared via her official fan club at the time, Slezak commented on her time on “General Hospital,” and thanked the fans for their support, saying, “Thank you so much for all your emails. I am delighted that you’ve been enjoying my work on ‘General Hospital.’ I am very grateful for the kind words you have shared with me. It was wonderful to work again in a medium I love. My experience on ‘GH’ was fantastic, and I hope you continue to enjoy the show. ‘GH’ has an incredible group of actors and writers, and I am honored to have been part of it. Many sincere thanks for watching. Love, Erika.” Note: The post ‘General Hospital’ To Air Encore Broadcast Featuring Erika Slezak As Ronnie Bard On Memorial Day – The Will Reading Episode first appeared on Soap Opera Network. 7. On Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day), CBS has scheduled repeat broadcasts of “The Young and the Restless” and “Beyond the Gates,” while “The Bold and the Beautiful” will broadcast an all-new episode. Originally aired on July 3, 2019, episode #11720 of “The Young and the Restless” sees Victor (Eric Braeden) making a dangerous decision, while Victoria (Amelia Heinle) plots her revenge against Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Elsewhere, Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) past catches up with her and romance blooms for Devon (Bryton James) and Elena (Brytni Sarpy). As for “Beyond the Gates,” CBS will rebroadcast the daytime special “Beyond the Gates: Inside Fairmont Crest,” which originally aired on January 19, 2026. Taped on the set of the show’s Atlanta-based studio in November 2025, the special episode pulls back the curtain on “Beyond the Gates” with commentary from the show’s cast as they relive their favorite storylines, including all of season one’s explosive affairs, shocking cons, and family secrets. Cast members who took part in the special include Brandon Claybon, Colby Muhammad, Daphnée Duplaix, Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Karla Mosley, Arielle Prepetit, RhonniRose Mantilla, Jen Jacob, Kenjah, Alex Alegria, Colby Muhammad, Jibre Hordges, Ambyr Michelle, David Lami Friebe, Sean Freeman, Timon Kyle Durrett, Marquita Goings, Keith D. Robinson, Najah Jackson and Jaden Lucas Miller, among others. Ben Gavin, who played Derek Baldwin on the soap until earlier this week when his character was heroically killed off, also took part in the special, though it was before he was informed of the shift in storyline for his character. Though the decision to air a repeat of its newest soap opera doesn’t come as a surprise, given that only 238 episodes of “Beyond the Gates” are expected to air during Season 2, it is noteworthy that the network has chosen to air a rebroadcast of “The Young and the Restless,” particularly at this time of year. Historically, repeat broadcasts of the long-running daytime drama series, if scheduled, have been reserved for the wintertime, specifically on holidays like Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, when not preempted by sports. One likely reason could be the upcoming crossover between the two soap operas, set to air in June, and the need to sync the shows for storyline purposes, given that seven actors from “The Young and the Restless” are set to crossover from Genoa City to Fairmont Crest over multiple episodes. Bryton James, who previously took his Devon Winters character to meet with the Dupree family, among others, last August, will once again appear alongside the family, and he’ll be joined by co-stars Eric Braeden, Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), Michael Mealor (Kyle Abbott), Susan Walters (Diane Abbott) and Melissa Ordway, who plays James’ on-screen wife, Abby, and is Victor Newman’s daughter. The ambitious storyline will see longtime close friends Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and the powerful patriarch of the Newman family, the legendary Victor Newman, reunite at a high-profile political fundraiser. In story, Victor has backed Vernon’s political campaigns over the years while Vernon has championed legislation benefiting Newman Enterprises, an alliance built on loyalty, influence, and mutual gain. Now, Vernon has asked Victor to serve as the keynote speaker at his grandson Martin’s (Brandon Claybon) fundraiser. Friends with Martin since they first bonded in New York City after college, Kyle Abbott looks forward to attending the fundraiser after Martin extends him an invitation. Kyle will arrive alongside his parents, Jack and Diane. Abby and Devon are also on the VIP guest list, with Devon fielding an unexpected business opportunity from Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie). As the evening unfolds, a shocking event derails the fundraiser, triggering dramatic consequences that will affect every guest in attendance. Though the second-ever crossover event between “Beyond the Gates” and “The Young and the Restless,” this will be the third time the new soap opera will have crossed over with a CBS sibling, following last October’s crossover event with “The Bold and the Beautiful,” which saw Thorsten Kaye appear as his Ridge Forrester character from the half-hour drama series. Despite an unusual week, wherein the game show was preempted on Tuesday, April 28 and Wednesday, April 29 for UEFA Champions League coverage, and Nielsen excluding the Monday, April 27 broadcast, the half hours of “Let’s Make a Deal” saw across the board year-over-year gains, with the second half-hour up +0.07 among Women 18-49 (0.24 rating vs. 0.17 rating), up +0.03 among Women 25-54 (0.33 rating vs. 0.30 rating), and up an astonishing +416,000 viewers (2.559 million vs. 2.143 million). The first half-hour was up +0.01 among Women 18-49 (0.17 rating vs. 0.16 rating) and up +119,000 viewers (2.002 million vs. 1.883 million). “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.795 million) ranked No. 1 among soaps in Women 18-49 (0.26 rating) for the 20th in 32 weeks, including ties, and was up +0.01 week-to-week and +0.02 year-over-year in the demo. It was also up +0.01 week-to-week among Women 25-54 (0.39 rating), and just shy of tying “The Young and the Restless” (0.40 rating). Among Total Viewers, the half-hour drama series was up +38,000 week-to-week (vs. 2.757 million) and a staggering +398,000 year-over-year (vs. 2.397 million). Though it placed second among soaps in Women 18-49 (0.25 rating), “The Young and the Restless” (3.143 million) was up +0.01 week-to-week and flat with its year-ago performance (0.25 rating). Among Total Viewers, the long-running drama series was up +20,000 week-to-week (vs. 3.123 million) and up +299,000 year-over-year (vs. 2.844 million). Excluding the week of September 29 – October 3, 2025, which saw ABC factor in repeat broadcasts of the daytime drama despite the soap opera being preempted in most markets due to Major League Baseball Wild Card Series game coverage on the network, “General Hospital” (1.809 million) set a new season and series low among Women 25-54 (0.20 rating), and attracted its third smallest audience of the season, down 168,000 viewers week-to-week (vs. 1.977 million). On the positive side, the long-running series was up +0.02 week-to-week among Women 18-49 (0.18 rating vs. 0.16 rating), and up +39,000 viewers year-over-year (vs. 1.770 million). Flat with its week-ago performance among Women 18-49 (0.15 rating), “Beyond the Gates” (1.655 million) saw week-to-week and year-over-year gains among Total Viewers, up +42,000 (vs. 1.613 million) and +167,000 (vs. 1.488 million), respectively, despite being preempted for UEFA Champions League coverage on Tuesday, April 28 and Wednesday, April 29. The soap opera marked its eighth consecutive week of year-over-year gains among Total Viewers, and its largest overall to date. “The Price is Right,” which was the only CBS daytime series not impacted by UEFA Champions League coverage coast-to-coast, continued to lead across every category, though both half hours saw minor week-to-week declines in the key demos. Among Total Viewers, the second half-hour (4.377 million) was up +83,000 week-to-week and a massive +560,000 year-over-year. The first half-hour (3.859 million) was up +62,000 viewers week-to-week and an amazing +512,000 year-over-year. Compared to their performance during the same week in 2024, both half hours continue to impress, with the second half-hour up +218,000 viewers (4.377 million vs. 4.159 million) and the first half-hour up +290,000 viewers (3.859 million vs. 3.569 million). Wrap-Up What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of April 27 – May 1, 2026, in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including week-to-week and year-over-year comparisons. 9. On Thursday, May 21, Sherri Shepherd signed off as host of her nationally syndicated daytime talk show, “Sherri,” after four seasons. The program, which in fall 2022 took over the time slot previously held by “The Wendy Williams Show” in most major markets, was canceled in February as the talk show and news industries continue to shift in response to the podcast boom, both economically and in their productions. “This decision is driven by the evolving daytime television landscape and does not reflect on the strength of the show, its production — which has found strong creative momentum this season — or the incredibly talented Sherri Shepherd,” said Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus, co-founders and co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury, owned by Lionsgate Studios, which produced and distributed the talk show. “We believe in this show and in Sherri and intend to explore alternatives for it on other platforms,” Bernstein and Marcus said at the time of the cancellation, though no information has since been shared on what other avenues they were pursuing since the announcement. “Well, this is it. Um, this is the last episode of Sherri,” opened an emotional and teary-eyed Sherperd during her opening monologue on the final broadcast. “Uh, when I say, ‘Hey family,’ I don’t take it lightly because for one hour every day I really felt like everybody here and at home was my family. I did.” “So seriously, thank you,” Shepherd continued, following several moments of applause from the in-studio audience. “Now, what am I going to do with all this time I have on my hands? I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had time to focus on the important things like stalking Lenny Kravitz,” she jokingly said, referring to her long-time fanatics over the musician. “I finally have the time to stand outside his house with my binoculars, and I can go to the gym consistently now. My booty is going to be so round. You will be calling me Sherri Thee Stallion, and I’m going to do more stand-up comedy. “I’ll be doing shows at 7 and 10 every night at this new venue. It’s called Sherri’s Brownstone. So, poor Jeffrey is going to have to listen to the same jokes over and over. And I guess that’s okay because I still get to tell jokes because I am a comedian and that is what I love. This season, I made it a point to come out here and do standup at the top of every show. I feel good about that because nobody else in daytime is doing it. And these stand-up spots were my heart, my joy, and it was me being me.” Giving Thanks After playing a package highlighting her opening monologues throughout season four, Shepherd returned to the screen, thanking her team, including Norman Baker, Brittany Sims, Robin Montague and executive producer/showrunner Joelle Dawson-Calia, for their help in putting things together each and every show. “It takes a whole village to make all of those jokes, and we have fun every single day laughing at the jokes that we can come up with,” Shepherd said. “So, y’all, if you need some great writers who can do some comedy, those are the four. They are amazing.” “So many people have championed this show from day one. People believed in me, and they supported me. They lifted me up. And even on the days when I was hot flashing, when I lost my voice, when I lost my wig, I get people coming up to me on the street in the airport at the liquor store saying, ‘Sherri, we love your show.” And not just people on the street. Huge celebrities have championed us.” Tyler Perry’s Message For Sherri Sheperd shared a recorded message from one of those celebrity champions, including mega producer, writer and director Tyler Perry (“Beauty in Black,” “The Diary of a Mad Black Woman”). “Well, Sherri, after four seasons, they say all good things come to an end. But I’m going to tell you something. This is just going to keep going and going and going because what this show has represented, what it’s been, it’s been your soul, your spirit, and your light, and you brought so much joy to the world,” said Perry in a video package. “Continue to do that in your next chapter. I’m going to be following you, rooting for you, and thanking God for you. No door, no door closes without something incredible happening right after. I love you, love. Keep the light. God bless you. Stay in the good. Rolonda Watts Rolanda Watts Appreciation Since the beginning, former talk show host Rolonda Watts has been the voice heard introducing Sherri each day, and Shepherd took the time to thank her for her love and support, saying, “I want to shout out the voice of the ‘Sherri’ show, Rolonda Watts. Rolanda introduces me every single day, and she is here in the audience, sitting right there, coming to support.” Closing Out Monologue “So, before we go to break, I need to take one more moment to say thank you. I am so grateful that I got to live out my childhood dream. And you know, if you know me, you’ve heard me talk,” shared Shepherd. “The road to get here was not easy. There were so many times that I wanted to give up. There were those times that I did not know if it would ever happen. And it was so many nos that I got, so many people that told me why it couldn’t happen, why physically it was not able. I was too… they needed younger people. They didn’t think I could bring anything to the table. And I listened to that and listened to that. And it was so discouraging because there were times that I would look up and say, ‘Okay, God, I’m listening.’ But I thought God was speaking in another language because I was missing something. And God would say to me sometimes, ‘Sherri, do you trust me?’ And I’d go, ‘Absolutely not!’ But thank God that he’s got a great sense of humor, and he could handle my doubt because that’s who God is. He can handle all that. He can handle frank discussion. But when the time was right, God took my hand, and he led me right here. And these four years with you were some of the best in my life. “I got to laugh with you. I got to make you laugh. I got to cry with you. I got to be myself fully, loudly, and joyfully. And I’m so grateful that you welcomed me into your homes, your living rooms, your kitchen, and in your prison cells,” continued Shepherd. “Thank you. I’m telling you, thank you. When I tell you we got prisoners down on lock over here at Sherri, and I want to thank you for watching us. I want to thank you for supporting us. I thank you for letting me into your lives. And I thank you for listening to my stories about my son, my bad dates, my marriage, my divorce, my other marriage, my other divorce. But most of all, I thank you for letting me grow in front of you. And even when I stumbled, you loved me anyway. So from my heart to yours, this has truly been my great honor. And I thank you, Lord, for listening to the dreams of your child. Thank you.” Final Guests Award-winning actor Niecy Nash, who is also Shepherd’s real-life BFF, was the last celebrity guest to appear on the talk show, while Michelle Buteau was the last actor/comedian to appear during the “Sherri’s Laugh Lounge” segment. Oprah’s “Bittersweet” Message A surprise video message recorded by former talk show host Oprah Winfrey (“The Oprah Winfrey Show”) aired just before the closing segment of “Sherri.” In it, Winfrey said, “Well, I know what that final day is like. It’s bittersweet, and so to you and all of your staff, all the people working behind the scenes who have made you look so good in front of the camera, my heart is with you today cuz I understand how bittersweet this is and how many treasured memories and how many fun times. “I just want to thank you, Sherri and thank your entire team for bringing so much laughter and lifting us up and leaving us with light inside ourselves. This is what we needed in these times where there’s not a lot of laughs and certainly not a lot of laughs in the good spirit that you brought to us every single day on the ‘Sherri’ show.” Closing Out A Talk Show Thank you so much, Oprah, for those very thoughtful words,” said Shepherd following Winfrey’s message. “It was an honor having you on the show and always here supporting me. And this is the wonderful staff that Oprah was talking about.” Joined by all the staff and crew who helped bring “Sherri” to audiences, Shepherd said, “This is the wonderful staff that Oprah was talking about. And this staff has been beautifully led by my executive producer and showrunner, Joelle Dawson-Calia. These are the amazing people who make the magic happen behind the scenes, and they make me look good every day. I want to thank you to my stage crew and camera people for always getting my best angle. Oh my gosh. And a special shout-out to the control room led by my director, Eden Castle. Thank you for keeping this show on time and on the air. And of course, a very special thank you to Debmar-Mercury. Thank you, Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, for giving me a chance. And thank you to our executive vice president of programming, Karen Bonck, for always fighting for this show. You made my dreams come true. And I will miss coming to work every day with these wonderful people. All we do is laugh when we’re here. And I thank you all for making this show the best time on daytime.” After taking its last commercial break, Shepherd returned to the screen in her pink chair, telling the TV audience, “For the last time, I hope something on today’s show put a smile on your face. To all the viewers watching, thank you for putting a smile on my face every day for the last four years. It has been pure joy sharing my life with you every day, and these are memories that I will never forget. And, as always, thank you for watching the best time in daytime. Bye-bye for now.” Watch Shepherd’s final opening monologue below. 10. The Wednesday, May 20 episode of “Beyond the Gates” saw the soap opera’s first on-screen death of a character portrayed by an original cast member, with Derek Baldwin, played by Ben Gavin, succumbing to his wounds after taking a bullet meant for Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges). The fatal twist came as a shock to Gavin, who was informed of the decision to kill the character during a December 2025 conversation with executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers. “They made it pretty clear this was something that they needed, and for the sake of the story, it couldn’t just be anyone. It had to be someone that they started to really care about to hook the audience, and I understood that,” said Gavin in an interview with TV Insider. The shooting was the culmination of a months-long blood plasma sting operation storyline, which had Jacob working undercover as he sought the arrest of those behind the scenes. During his conversation with Carruthers, Gavin shared, “She made it pretty clear that, ‘You’re gonna die a hero,’ and Derek’s got a hero complex, so it’s only fitting.” He noted, “I get the nature of it, but it didn’t make it any less difficult to swallow.” Though he got the official word through Carruthers, Gavin admits in hindsight he wasn’t that surprised and could see things had shifted for the character beforehand, “Derek didn’t have a family, didn’t have parents around, and he didn’t have a job, so I knew there was a chance of being an expendable character,” said Gavin of his character’s background, or lack thereof. However, he does credit the show’s writers for how they wrote for the character going into season two. “They really did a lot in the second season to boost the character’s value,” the actor said. “I’ve noticed the audience in the second season has turned for the better for Derek. He’s not a pushover anymore, which I appreciate.” Jen Jacob, Ben Gavin As for his final scenes, which were shared with co-star Jen Jacob (Ashley Morgan), Gavin recalls the emotional turmoil his character was going through as he saw the end was nigh. “The very last shot I did was where I tell Ashley to not be afraid and that I love her,” Gavin said. “They really took their time with it, which I appreciate, because there are not many opportunities on a soap where we can really take our time with moments; it’s run and gun. So, I’m lying on this gurney, and I’m going through all the mental stuff before the shot, and then nothing’s happening, and I’m kind of like, ‘Alright, let’s do this.’ And then everyone came out onto the stage, and they said, ‘You’re wrapped.’” Some of Gavin’s best memories were the friendships he formed with people from the show, like Jacob and Ernestine Johnson Morrison (Shanice Johnson), among others, and he’s open to a return as a possible twin or in a flashback sequence. “That’s my family, and they changed my life for the better. If they call my name, I’ll be there,” he says. Note: The post Original Cast Member Ben Gavin Exits ‘Beyond The Gates’ first appeared on Soap Opera Network. Read More
  11. One week after unveiling its 2026-2027 primetime schedule and programming plans during its upfront presentation in New York City, ABC announced on Tuesday that it has given a straight-to-series order to a new “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, which will be set in Texas and is co-created by the flagship series’ original creator/executive producer, Shonda Rhimes. According to Deadline, which first reported the news, the untitled drama will follow a team of doctors working at a rural West Texas medical center, described as the last chance for care before miles of nowhere. Co-created, written and executive produced by Rhimes and “Grey’s Anatomy” showrunner/executive producer Meg Marinis, the new series from Shondaland and 20th Television will be the fourth in the franchise, joining the mothership, which debuted in 2005, and previous spinoffs “Private Practice” and “Station 19.” “Grey’s Anatomy” star/executive producer Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an executive producer alongside Rhimes and Marinis. With the spinoff expected to premiere in midseason 2027, some distinctions about the new offshoot have already been made: it’s the first not set on the West Coast or in a big city, and, at least at this point, the first not spun off with a series regular from the original series. “Private Practice” ran for six seasons and was headlined by Kate Walsh, who played Dr. Addison Montgomery, while Jason George (ex-Michael Bourne, “Sunset Beach”) took his Dr. Ben Warren character from the original series to battle fires for seven seasons on “Station 19.” George returned to the original series as a series regular beginning with Season 21, following the cancellation of “Station 19” in 2024. That said, Deadline noted that the new group of doctors will potentially have a direct connection to the mothership “via one or more characters,” citing Debbie Allen‘s Catherine Fox as one of the likely figures used to bring the fictionalized world together. Though the number of episodes ordered by the network was not known at press time, Deadline revealed ABC is expected to keep the original and the spinoff in the same time period, Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, with “Grey’s Anatomy” airing in the fall and the spinoff taking over the slot in midseason, particularly as the former is expected to see a budget reduction as part the network looks to increase its scripted output despite limited real-estate available across its primetime schedule. Last week, the network picked up the drama “R.J. Decker” for a second season and greenlit “The Rookie: North,” a spinoff of “The Rookie,” which stars “One Life to Live” alum Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey Buchanan) as John Nolan, once the oldest rookie in the LAPD who is now using his life experience, determination and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20+ years his junior. That series is set to enter its ninth season and is the No. 1 broadcast drama among Adults 18-34 and the No. 1 series overall among Teens 12-17, based on Nielsen’s multiplatform measurement over seven days. “I am incredibly excited to expand the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ universe,” Marinis said in a statement released to the outlet. “This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from ‘Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.” The new spinoff sees Rhimes returning to a “Grey’s Anatomy” franchise writers’ room as a writer or co-writer for the first time since 2011, when she wrote the episode “How to Save a Life,” which saw the tragic death of Dr. Derek Montgomery (Patrick Dempsey). In recent years, Rhimes has been working under an exclusive overall deal with Netflix, where her Shondaland shingle has been based since 2017, though since the new spinoff hails from a preexisting series, she was able to take part in its development at ABC. Concluding its 22nd season earlier this month, “Grey’s Anatomy” is the network’s longest-running primetime scripted series and remains one of its most popular, averaging 5.99 million viewers for the season finale among Multiplatform+7, up +9% from the prior week and +123% from its performance in Live+Same Day. 14. On Wednesday, May 20, at 7:00 p.m. local time, cast members from “The Young and the Restless” will take part in a star-studded reading of the upcoming romance novel “She Wrote, He Wrote: A New York Love Story,” written by Ashley Wren Collins and Jordan Rockwell. The event, a unique dramatic reading followed by a Q&A and book signing at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles, will be directed by Fritz Bekeller, who has won two Emmy Awards throughout his career for Outstanding Direction for a Daytime Drama Series, first during his time at “One Life to Live” and then later at “The Young and the Restless.” Cast members from the long-running daytime drama series currently scheduled to take part in the reading include Emmy Award nominees Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Lawson), Mark Grossman (Adam Newman), Michael Graziadei (Daniel Romalotti) and Elizabeth Hendrickson (Chloe Mitchell). The novel follows aspiring writer Joanna Peterson-Mills, played by Egan for the reading, who’s balancing her flourishing writing career with her creepy boss and big city dreams, while living in a cramped East Village walk-up she shares with two eccentric roommates. Meanwhile, Logan Thurgood, a finance scion played by Grossman, is determined to break away from the labels of his wealthy Connecticut family and forge a name for himself on Wall Street. After meeting at a dinner party one autumn night in New York, readers are introduced to a sidesplitting romp through the duo’s “Not-so Meet Cute” under the Manhattan skyline as they navigate career and dating hijinks in the modern world. As Joanna and Logan’s paths keep crossing and their stories unfold, one question remains: Can these two get out of their own way and find a happy ending together? The romantic comedy is told from alternating perspectives and features a lovable cast of characters, including Graziadei and Hendrickson, who play various other roles. For those looking to attend, tickets can be purchased online for $27.38 per person before fees, with a limited quantity available. A ticket includes one copy of the novel and admission to the reading-and-signing event. While the event starts at 7:00 p.m. local time, admission will begin at 6:00 p.m. local time, with check-in at the third-floor customer service desk. Tickets must be presented (either printed out or on your phone) to be admitted. For more information about the event, including how to purchase tickets, visit the official events page. 17. Dear Members, Like many other websites, the SON Community has experienced a high volume of bad bot traffic in recent months, resulting in incorrect data collection by Google Analytics, the premier provider that tracks page views and sessions by the minute, hour, day, etc. for all websites receiving visitors across the web. As a result, we have taken several steps to reduce this influx of bad traffic, including blocking visits unilaterally from the following countries: China Cambodia Hong Kong Indonesia Japan Malaysia Singapore Vietnam This results in a "blocked" message appearing on the screens of those who are potentially trying to visit legitimately. We apologize if this is affecting you, but the decision to block these countries was necessary because traffic from them has been deemed invalid, and we cannot afford for it to continue. If you know someone who is unable to visit due to this matter, please have them email us at [email protected], and we'll see if we can assist them. Thank you for your attention to this matter. -- SON Admins
  18. Beginning Monday, May 18, former “All My Children” and “Mean Girls” star Jonathan Bennett marks his return to daytime soaps, playing the newly created role of Detective Joe Fitzpatrick on ABC’s “General Hospital.” While the opportunity came as a surprise to Bennett, he said in a recent interview with TV Insider that he couldn’t pass this full-circle moment up, noting, “Daytime is where I learned to act. It’s where I learned what this business was. The opportunity to come back to where it all started just felt like the right thing to do. Plus, I was very excited to work with the best of the best, like [executive producer] Frank Valentini. He’s a legend.” Besides Valentini, Bennett is also happy to be surrounded by some of his “All My Children” co-stars who’ve gone on to play interwoven characters in Port Charles, like Cameron Mathison, who appears as Drew Cain, but previously portrayed Ryan Lavery during his time in Pine Valley. “Cameron was actually the first call I made when this opportunity came up,” said Bennett to TV Insider. “I was like, ‘Cameron, should I do this? I really want to do this.’ He said, ‘You should do this. It’s going to be very fun for you, and you’re going to enjoy it.’ There’s something about being around Cameron, you feel so safe. He has this magical energy, ever since I met him when I was 19 years old, had just fallen off the turnip truck from Ohio, and moved to New York City to make it big. Back then, Cameron was a safe space for me to be around, and here in Port Charles, nothing has changed. He’s the same guy.” The same can be said for Michael E. Knight, who plays Martin Gray on the soap opera, following his “All My Children” days as Tad Martin. “I can’t wait; I hope he remembers me,” Bennett says. As for his new character and what fans can expect, Bennett shares, “I feel like I hit the jackpot when this opportunity came because the character is something that I really wanted to play.” He added, “I’ve never read something where I was like, ‘I have to do it,’ and when I read this, I called my agent and said, ‘I’m playing this character.’” Bennett will be sharing some of his first scenes with co-star Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri). In a preview clip provided to PEOPLE, Bennett, as Joe Fitzpatrick, can be seen explaining to Dante the details of a recent arrest. “A call came in from the maître d’ at the Metro Court [Hotel], he said there was some sort of argument, scuffle happening in the gardens and was concerned things were going to escalate and patrons would get injured,” explains Joe to Dante. “When we got there, it was obvious, things had escalated.” The preview clip did not include information on who was involved in the arrest or what had happened since. “Coming to work every day and getting to work with so many amazing people under the guidance of Frank Valentini is just a win-win situation,” said Bennett to PEOPLE. “I’m having a blast, and Port Charles already feels like home. I freaking love it,” Note: The post First Air Date Set For Jonathan Bennett As Joe Fitzpatrick On ‘General Hospital’ first appeared on Soap Opera Network. Read More
  19. On Thursday, May 14, actor Stephen Oyoung made his daytime debut as Jason Choi on “Days of our Lives,” a role that sees Sophia’s (Rachel Boyd) family formally expand their presence in Salem, along with the already appearing Amy (Shi Ne Nielson), Sophia’s mom. Oyoung’s credits include such shows as “For All Mankind,” “Good Trouble,” “Insecure,” “SEAL Team,” “Magnum P.I.,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” among others, and the films “Workaholics,” “Twisters” and “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” among others. Outside of on-screen credits, he is probably best known for lending his voice to several top-tier games, including “Cyberpunk 2077,” “Gotham Knights,” “Harry Potter: Magic Awakened,” “Remnant II,” and, most notably, “Spider-Man” and its sequel game, “Spider-Man 2.” As for his time on soaps thus far, in Friday’s episode, Jada (Elia Cantu) explained to the Choi family that Sophia’s disappearance has been turned into a search-and-recovery mission. Meanwhile, Holly (Ashley Puzemis) makes it clear to the Choi’s that Sophia wasn’t the sainted daughter her family believes her to be, instead revealing her true nature as a tormentor. Amy doesn’t take the news well and shares that Holly will get what’s coming to her when the time comes. 21. Another irony is her casting as Jill reunites her with Billy Flynn, who previously played Chad DiMera on Days of our Lives, with Koslow playing Kate Roberts, Chad's one-time stepmother. On The Young and the Restless, Flynn now plays Cane Ashby, who once pretended to be Jill's long-lost son.
  22. While she’s best known for her portrayal as Kate Roberts on “Days of our Lives,” actress Lauren Koslow will soon be returning to her original soap stomping ground at “The Young and the Restless,” where she will temporarily take over the role of Jill Abbott after portrayer Jess Walton was reportedly unavailable for taping due to a scheduling conflict. According to TV Insider, which first reported the news, Walton, who has resided full-time in Oregon since 2011 and has been on recurring status with the soap since 2012, was unable to make it to Los Angeles to tape for an upcoming story arc, prompting the series to recast, albeit temporarily. Koslow will reportedly appear in at least five episodes of the long-running daytime drama series, beginning Thursday, June 25, reports Soap Opera Digest. Despite taking on another role at a rival soap, a spokesperson for “Days of our Lives” said in a statement to the outlet, “‘DAYS is happy to be able to share Lauren with ‘Y&R,’ and this does not affect her status with the show in any way.” Koslow made her soap opera debut in 1984 on “The Young and the Restless,” playing Lindsey Wells opposite Brenda Dickson, who originated the role of Jill. By 1987, Koslow had left the series to take on the role of Margo Lynley on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” while Walton stepped in as Jill following Dickson’s exit. After her exit from “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 1992, Koslow returned to soaps in 1996, this time playing Kate Roberts on “Days of our Lives,” replacing Deborah Adair. She has remained a staple ever since, working opposite several heavy hitters, including Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) and the late Joseph Mascolo (Stefano DiMera). “We’re extremely grateful to Lauren Koslow for returning to her ‘Y&R’ roots and temporarily stepping into the role of Jill,” said executive producer Sally McDonald and head writer Josh Griffith in a joint statement. “We want to extend our sincere thanks to [executive producer] Ken Corday and [co-executive producer] Noel Maxam at ‘Days of our Lives’ and Peacock. Their support embodies the collaborative spirit of the daytime television community.” “Jess Walton is an enduring cornerstone of ‘Y&R,'” continued McDonald and Griffith. “We look forward to welcoming her back to Genoa City as her schedule permits and celebrating her extraordinary 40th anniversary as the iconic Jill Abbott.” On Wednesday, it was announced Griffith had stepped down as executive producer at “The Young and the Restless,” though he remains the show’s head writer. McDonald, who was named co-executive producer in September 2025, is now the show’s sole executive producer. 23. This is why I believe changes were made behind the scenes at The Young and the Restless, regardless of whether the decision was formally (aka "officially") made by Josh Griffith himself. Ratings still matter in 2026, and while delayed viewership and streaming do factor into overall engagement for the soaps, Live+Same Day ratings still play a significant role in measuring how many people are watching our favorite programs across daytime, primetime and all other day parts.
