ARTICLE: Writers Strike Forces Production Shut Down at ‘The Talk’; ‘The View’ to Continue Without Writers
Depending on how long the strike lasts, I have a feeling that "The Talk" won't return. Just a feeling as some networks used the 2007/2008 strike as an excuse to get rid of shows and writers.

ARTICLE: Writers Strike Forces Production Shut Down at ‘The Talk’; ‘The View’ to Continue Without Writers
The fallout from the writers strike that has virtually shut down Hollywood is now beginning to impact daytime television, reports Deadline. CBS’ “The Talk” has shut down production because of the strike as its staff includes WGA writers. According to the outlet, “The Talk” will continue airing previously recorded all-new episodes for the remainder of this week, including an episode featuring Shemar Moore as a guest co-host. The actor will reprise his role as Malcolm Winters on “The Young and the Restless” on Monday, May 8. Sara Haines, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin (“The View”) Photo by Jeff Lipsky/ABC The show could air repeats starting next week or as soon as its pre-recorded originals run out, Deadline notes. “The View,” which also has WGA writers, will continue production, moderator Whoopi Goldberg announced on today’s show. Meanwhile, the late-night talk shows have already stopped production and will begin airing re-runs starting tonight and until the strike concludes. 2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread
I'm unsure if he'd return or be asked to return since he worked under Jill Farren Phelps and went with her to The Young and the Restless after Ron Carlivati took over as Head Writer. We shall see. Speaking of Y&R, it and DAYS are currently the safest in terms of writing as Josh Griffith already went fi-core during the last strike and he let go all the breakdown writers so he's essentially already doing the work himself. And Days of our Lives is so far ahead that Dinosaurs have already been resurrected as the dominant species on Earth (Humans are just picketing in front of Hollywood studios to pass their day).

ARTICLE: Camila Banus Exits ‘Days of our Lives’ as Gabi Hernandez; Will Appear On-Screen for Several More Months
Although we’ll still see her on-screen for several months due to the show’s heightened tape-to-air schedule, actress Camila Banus recently wrapped her 13-year run as Gabi Hernandez on “Days of our Lives.” In an exit interview with TheWrap’s Rosemary Rossi, Banus reveals she taped her final scenes in Salem at the Burbank-based studio on Friday, April 28 and that she’s ready to “start the next chapter” in her life. “There’s definitely been a lot of changes at ‘DAYS’ the last couple of years, one being moving to Peacock. Although it’s been wonderful and we’ve had a super great reception, for me, I felt like that was kind of like the initial start for changes happening in general. And I kind of just saw that as a sign for me to start the next chapter in my life.” While Banus joined the cast of “Days of our Lives” in October 2010, her first soap role was playing Lola Montez on “One Life to Live” from October 2008 to May 2009. She’s now ready for non-soap work. “That’s an enormous amount of time, especially in this industry where it’s such an inconsistent employment process that I call it the 99% unemployment industry for everyone,” laughed Banus in an interview with TheWrap, when discussing the length of run on “Days of our Lives.” She added, “You know, you book something and you never know what’s up ahead or what may be the future for that project. So I’ve been very blessed and very lucky to have been representing Latinas and Latinos as Gabi. And I’m just ready to see how I can represent further along in my career, you know, see what the next chapter of representing will be.” Stating that her decision to exit was “tough” and bittersweet, Banus notes that a month before her contract was up, producers asked what her terms were so they could renegotiate a new deal. One major sticking point for Banus was a schedule adjustment that would allow her to have more time off which was a no go from the show’s perspective, among other matters. “‘Well, if you can’t meet these demands, then I can’t,” recalls Banus of what she told producers after the time off issue was clearly a no go for them. “I talked to producers and they had a call with me and they were like, ‘Well, what can we do?’ And I honestly [said], ‘I need to slow down. And part of that is, you know, you guys accepting this shooting schedule for me, and you won’t. So, you know, I have to respectfully bow out and say thank you, and that’s all I can do.’” For more from Banus on her exit from “Days of our Lives” and what plans she has in store for the next chapter in her life, including dreams of being a film actress in big budget films, click here. ARTICLE: ‘Judy Justice’ Renewed for Two Additional Seasons at Amazon Freevee; Streamer Expanding ‘Justice’ Brand
Amazon Freevee is staying in business with Judge Judy Sheindlin, ordering two additional seasons of her Daytime Emmy Award-winning series “Judy Justice.” The streamer has also greenlit “Justice on Trial,” a never-before-seen courtroom docudrama featuring testimony and reenactments based on actual court transcripts. It marks the third original series created and executive produced by Sheindlin for Amazon Freevee, including “Tribunal Justice,” which premieres Friday, June 9 on the service. Since its launch in November 2021, “Judy Justice” has emerged as Amazon Freevee’s No. 1 Original program in hours watched, with customers viewing more than 150 million hours to date. Now in its second season, all-new episodes will continue to release every weekday through Friday, June 9. During its debut season, the show won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program. Episodes from Seasons 1 and 2 are also available for On Demand viewing through the show’s FAST channel. “Justice on Trial” is a new exploration of the American justice system through the vehicle of a docudrama, exploring the footings of American jurisprudence—including what children are taught in school, police diligence as opposed to overreach, and individual rights versus the greater good. Some of these thought-provoking and controversial topics have been the subject of Supreme Court rulings. “Justice on Trial” will examine these seminal rulings through a combination of sometimes-heated courtroom debate, lively civil discourse, and common-sense legal analysis. “‘Justice on Trial’ explores, through reenactment, some of the most famous and infamous cases in this country and their impact on every American,” said Sheindlin in a statement. “There has never been a program like it. It is smart and compelling TV.” Speaking on the two-season renewal of her daily court show, Sheindlin said, “How shall I describe my feelings about Amazon Freevee’s renewal of ‘Judy Justice’? Gratifying, certainly. Grateful, of course. In exploring the continued success of the program, I do believe that people long to see old-fashion justice administered with an even hand. A little humor doesn’t hurt. I intend to deliver both for as long as I’m able.” “Over the course of two seasons on Amazon Freevee, Judge Sheindlin has delighted her long-standing fans and won over a new streaming audience with her no-nonsense approach to resolving every dispute on ‘Judy Justice,’” said Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD Originals, unscripted, and targeted programming, Amazon Studios. “With Justice on Trial, we look forward to offering our audience new opportunities to learn more about the legal process and the laws that govern our lives, as Judge Sheindlin goes beyond the bench to educate us all on landmark cases that have shifted our world.” Joining Sheindlin in her “Judy Justice” courtroom are bailiff Kevin Rasco, a retired Los Angeles probation officer; court stenographer Whitney Kumar, a board-certified court reporter in the state of California; and newly minted lawyer Sarah Rose, who serves as the law clerk. “Judy Justice” is executive produced and directed by Randy Douthit and co-executive produced by Amy Freisleben. Scott Koondel is also an executive producer. ARTICLE: ABC Picks Up ‘9-1-1’ for Season 7 After FOX Opts Against Renewal; All Cast Members Expected to Return
First, the bad news. Despite being the highest-rated entertainment series on Monday nights and tied as the second-highest-rated entertainment series overall across broadcast television, “9-1-1,” the highest-rated broadcast drama series in Adults 18-49 (1.0 rating/8 share), has been canceled at FOX after six seasons. The good news is ABC has picked up the series and it will return for Season 7 sometime during the 2023-2024 broadcast television season. No cast changes are expected with the switch in TV networks. Photo by Jack Zeman /FOX Exploring the high-pressure experiences of first responders – including police officers, firefighters and dispatchers – who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations, “9-1-1” is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. The series stars Angela Bassett as Athena Grant, Peter Krause as Bobby Nash, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Kendall, Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley, Kenneth Choi as Howie “Chimney” Han, Aisha Hinds as Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz, Corinne Massiah as May Grant, Marcanthonee Jon Reis as Harry Grant, and Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz. “Thanks to the creative drive of [series co-creators] Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, as well as the talented cast, ‘9-1-1’ has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “It’s a privilege to keep ‘9-1-1’ in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air.” Alexis Martin Woodall, Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, John J. Gray, Kristen Reidel and Juan Carlos Coto also serve as executive producers. According to Deadline, FOX decided not to renew “9-1-1” following its Season 6 finale, airing Monday, May 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, which was expected after negotiations came down to the wire last year when a deal for the current season closed just an hour before the network’s 2022-2023 upfront presentation. Fans wondering what happens to spinoff “9-1-1: Lonestar” now that the parent series is leaving FOX can rest easy. The network renewed the series shortly after announcing the “9-1-1” cancellation. On Friday, June 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, Hallmark fans will be introduced to a new iteration of the Aurora Teagarden character when Hallmark Movies & Mysteries premieres “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New,” a prequel to the series of movies that starred Candace Cameron Bure playing the title character. The new movie stars Skyler Samuels as a young Aurora. In the movie, a post-college-aged Aurora is back home in Lawrenceton to be near her mother, Aida (Marilu Henner). Working as a teacher’s assistant in a crime fiction class, Aurora is struggling to settle on a thesis for her post-graduate degree. When Sally’s fiancé doesn’t show up at their wedding rehearsal, Maid of Honor Aurora gets Arthur to help her search for him, but when they discover a body, everyone assumes it is Sally’s tardy groom. After it turns out to be someone else, Sally’s fiancé becomes the main suspect. “Our viewers have been waiting for more adventures with Aurora and her friends – what better way to do that than to take them back to when the young, amateur sleuth was just coming into her own?” said Emily Merlin, development manager of programming at Hallmark, in a statement last month. “The ‘Aurora Teagarden’ franchise is a fan favorite and we’re excited to share this new chapter with viewers.” Before being cast as a young Aurora, Samuels had starring roles in such TV shows as “The Nine Lives of Chloe King,” “The Gates,” “Scream Queens,” and “The Gifted.” She more recently appeared in episodes of “The Rookie” and starred as Gabby Petito in the Lifetime original movie “The Gabby Petito Story.” Photo by Sven Boecker/Crown Media The final Aurora Teagarden movie starring Bure, titled “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Haunted by Murder,” was released in February 2022. ARTICLE: Budget Cuts Impact ‘Bob Hearts Abishola’ with Bulk of Cast Dropped to Recurring for Season 5
Although CBS renewed the sitcom “Bob Hearts Abishola” for a fifth season in January, with the show receiving a double-digit license fee reduction, the bulk of the show’s cast will not return as regulars, Deadline reports. The change will not impact Billy Gardell or Folake Olowofoyeku, who play the title characters, Bob and Abishola, respectively. Billy Gardell as Bob, Folake Olowafoyeku as Abishola (“Bob Hearts Abishola” Key Art) Courtesy of CBS The show’s 11 remaining cast members will see their episodic fees drop significantly after being offered recurring status with a five-episode guarantee. The cast was notified of the change last week, one week after the show completed production on its current fourth season. That said, some of the actors could appear in more episodes next season which will be subject to need and availability. Matt Jones as Douglas, Tony Okengbowa as Kofo, Barry Shabaka Henley as Uncle Tunde, Shola Adewusi as Auntie Olu, Bayo Akinfemi as Goodwin, (seated center: Billy Gardell as Bob, Folake Olowafoyeku as Abishola ), Christine Ebersole as Dottie, Maribeth Monroe as Christina, Saidah Afrika Ekulona as Edunoluwa, Gina Yashere as Kemi, Travis Wolfe, Jr. as Dele, and Vernee Watson as Gloria Courtesy of CBS There’s no word yet on whether those affected by the change have accepted the new terms, but Deadline indicates some might be willing to do it out of respect to the show’s producers “who have been put in a difficult spot by the budget squeeze.” Meanwhile, non-lead original cast members had previously been asked to wait until after Season 4 to renegotiate their contracts which would have seen them receiving a bump in salary as the show prepared to be sold in syndication. That is now no longer an option. Reportedly, the comedy series only received an initial 13-episode order for Season 5, with a possible Back 9 still in the cards, which would put the show in line with the 22-episode orders for Seasons 3 and 4. Only Gardell and Olowofoyeku would be expected to appear in all episodes, regardless of the season’s ultimate episode total. The show has already planted the seeds for cast changes, as teased in a synopsis for the upcoming Season 4 finale, airing Monday, May 22 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Titled “Uncharted Waters of Mediocrity,” the episode sees doubts creeping in as Abishola awaits her acceptance letter to the medical school of her dreams in Baltimore. Also, Bob battles his subconscious when he realizes he doesn’t want to leave Detroit. For more information on how these changes will impact the series, click here. Premiering in September 2019, “Bob Hearts Abishola” is a love story about a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit who unexpectedly fell for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack and set his sights on winning her over. Undaunted by Abishola’s lack of initial interest or the vast differences in their backgrounds, Bob was determined to win Abishola’s heart and eventually married her in the comedic examination of immigrant life in America. Produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, the series was co-created by Chuck Lorre, Al Higgins, Eddie Gorodetsky, and Gina Yashere, who also appears on the show as Kemi, Abishola’s colleague and friend. Additional stars include Matt Jones as Douglas, Tony Okengbowa as Kofo, Barry Shabaka Henley as Uncle Tunde, Shola Adewusi as Auntie Olu, Bayo Akinfemi as Goodwin, Christine Ebersole as Dottie, Maribeth Monroe as Christina, Saidah Afrika Ekulona as Edunoluwa, Travis Wolfe, Jr. as Dele, and Vernee Watson (“General Hospital”) as Gloria. The news was made by Hirsch herself in her final column released by the distributor on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Courtesy Photo “I am crushed,” began Hirsch before revealing she’ll be forging ahead by starting a blog on Medium, a new digital publishing company where journalists, experts, and individuals with unique perspectives share their thinking. “Medium is free and offers a plethora of columns — writers on books they love, filmmakers giving behind-the-scenes tidbits, etc. My blog will be ‘Lynda Hirsch on Entertainment.’ I am excited as I can cover TV, film, books, true crime, etc. Instead of weekly summaries, I will be doing daily takes.” Comparing the past with the future, Hirsch says that she was “pretty perfunctory” in her column. Meanwhile, by publishing daily, she can “offer eye roles” in her work. “What the heck, who choose that outfit? What the writers got wrong and right. Snark is so fun,” Hirsch teases of what to expect from her going forward. For more on what Hirsch has to say in her final column distributed by Creators Syndicate, click here. Note: At press time, a direct link was unavailable for Hirsch’s new blog on Medium. This post will be updated with the link when available. - ARTICLE: ALLBLK Announces Premiere Date + Releases Trailer for ‘Judge Me Not,’ An Original Series Created by Judge Lynn Toler
ALLBLK, the popular streaming service for Black television from AMC Networks, has released the first trailer for “Judge Me Not,” its brand new original series created by Judge Lynn Toler (“Commit or Quit,” “Divorce Court”), which is loosely based on her life. The series premieres Thursday, May 25. Cyna Lane, Javon Terrell (“Judge Me Not”) Photo by Donna Permell/Prime Phocus LLC/ALLBLK In “Judge Me Not,” Zelma Jay Johnson (played by Chyna Lane) is an exceptionally bright, young Black woman who struggles with mental health issues, a ludicrous family, and volatile love life. We join her as she takes on her new role as a judge in a court full of outrageous characters both in front of and behind the bench. As her passionate relationship with her live-in lover takes them both on a ride, she finds herself caught in the crosshairs of a psychological thriller that puts her life at risk. “A municipal court is a fascinating, often amusing, study of human nature. Its where regular people go when they get caught doing irregular things. ‘Judge Me Not’ presents you with that world through the eyes of a woman who’s not so regular herself,” said Toler of the series, which also finds her serving as a writer and executive producer. “The honorable Judge Lynn Toler has been a part of the AMC Networks family for quite some time. First, we saw her on WE tv’s ‘Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars’; then leading the charge alongside Dr. Ish Major on ‘Marriage Boot Camp: Hip Hop Edition’ and hosting her own series, ‘Commit or Quit with Judge Lynn Toler,’” said Brett Dismuke, General Manager, ALLBLK & WE tv. “Now, we have the opportunity to continue our relationship with this new compelling scripted series, as we work together to share Judge Toler’s incredible journey that led to the esteemed gravitas she carries today, in this new ALLBLK original series.” “Judge Me Not” also stars Javon Terrell (2022 winner of ALLBLK’S national casting call “Shoot Your Shot” held in conjunction with the American Black Film Festival), Terrence Green, Jonathan Chase, Gena Shaw and Bonita Brisker. Eric Tomosunas and Toler are Executive Producers; Abbey MacDonald serves as Co-Executive Producer, and Gieava Stinchcomb and James Seppelfrick serve as producers. Dismuke and SVP of Development & Production Nikki Love serve as executive producers for ALLBLK. Watch the official trailer below. Although his upcoming appearance via video call on the Tuesday, May 2 episode of “The Young and the Restless” looks to be a one-off appearance, we might be seeing more of J.T. Hellstrom as played by Thad Luckinbill on the daytime drama series in the not too distant future. According to the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now, Elena (Brytni Sarpy) reaches out to J.T. after Audra (Zuleyka Silver) gives her his phone number because she’s been unnerved about Nate’s (Sean Dominic) growing relationship with Victoria (Amelia Heinle), J.T.’s ex. “Elena decides her podcast is the perfect guise to reach out to J.T. and gauge where he stands with Victoria,” said head writer and executive producer Josh Griffith, teasing the story to Digest. Hoping to speak candidly with J.T. about his brain tumor, which wreaked havoc on Genoa City, Elena places a video call where it’s implied without correction that J.T. talking to Elena had been cleared with Victoria. It was not, of course. “Elena is intentionally evasive,” notes Griffith. “Reaching out to J.T. is a calculated move and she needs to be careful so her plan doesn’t backfire.” After their conversation, Elena asks J.T. to return to Genoa City so they can hopefully conduct an in-person interview that Elena hopes will make a lasting impression on Victoria and ultimately distract her from Nate. Will J.T. bite, and will we see more of him as the beets in the storyline get told? You’ll have to tune in to “The Young and the Restless,” airing weekdays on CBS. The show is also available to stream live and On Demand on Paramount+*. *Paramount+ Premium subscribers will have access to stream live via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service and On Demand. Essential-tier subscribers will have access to On Demand the day after the special airs. Note: The post Thad Luckinbill is Returning to ‘The Young and the Restless’ as J.T.
