  3. Get ready for the return of Shemar Moore on “The Young and the Restless,” albeit briefly. Deadline reports that Moore is set to reprise his role as Malcolm Winters on the daytime drama series for a single episode, airing Monday, May 8. According to a story breakdown, Malcolm returns to Genoa City to connect with his daughter, Lily (Christel Khalil), nephew Devon (Bryton James) and his stepson Nate (Sean Dominic) from a prior relationship with Nate’s mother, Olivia (Tonya Williams). For a refresher, Lily was determined to be the biological daughter of Malcolm from a one night stand with Lily’s mother, Drucilla (Victoria Rowell). At the time, Dru thought she had slept with her husband, Neil (the late Kristoff St. John), Malcolm’s brother, while under the influence of cold medicine. Devon was adopted by Dru and Neil in 2006. In 2019, Moore reprised his role as Malcolm to help honor the life of his friend and former scene partner, Kristoff St. John. As part of the tribute to the actor, the soap dedicated a series of episodes to St. John and his character, including a one-hour special aired in the show’s timeslot that featured a reunion of current and former cast members as they remembered their former co-star. Moore, who left the soap in 2005 to join the cast of “Criminal Minds,” won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Malcolm. Since 2017, the actor has led the cast of “S.W.A.T.,” the hit CBS drama series where he portrays the iconic Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. The series is reportedly on the bubble for a seventh season renewal by the network. “The Young and the Restless” is currently celebrating its 50th year on television, debuting March 26, 1973. The soap is already renewed for the 2023-2024 television season. 4. To add, the video billboard is a minute long. Too much content used to be granted permission by ABC or given fair use privileges (which generally applies to social media, not advertising). Not sure how much was spent, how the money was generated, whether it included payment to ABC for use, or whatever else is related to it, but that's a longer video than expected. Maybe 10 seconds could suffice. All in all, I'm just thinking out loud since I have to concern myself with this every day with every article posted and even every post made by posters on the SON Community that includes video and photos, which, again, is something that will soon be addressed here. The only acceptable content I think their fans could use is photos/videos of themselves interacting with the actors at fan events or photos taken by fans of the actors. Otherwise, the entire ad is just edited clips from General Hospital.
  5. They didn't use still shots. It's an edited video from the show, which ABC owns. Still shots are also owned by the network since they paid for creating the content. Related, some of these matters will be addressed on SON itself when it comes to photo use. Generally speaking, if you don't own the content and aren't paying a license, the only way to use it without issue is to get permission from the license holder. That said, I'm only speaking from a legal perspective on the use of the video. The name Sprina isn't in question or at issue from my perspective. As for the billboard owner, I have never paid for a billboard before, so I don't know what the rules and regs are, but I doubt they are going to investigate the ownership of imagery used in an ad.
  6. I admire fans who love their couple. My question, however, is whether or not their video billboard in Times Square got clearance from ABC. At the end of the day, it is an advertisement promoting a couple that wasn't created by ABC/Disney marketing. If ABC didn't sanction it, someone could get sued for copyright infringement.
  7. Following last week’s appearance of co-star Finola Hughes on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” and “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” “General Hospital” star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) will be appearing on the Wednesday, March 29 episode of “The View” and the Thursday, March 30 episode of “Tamron Hall.” Benard will be on hand to discuss the 60th anniversary of “General Hospital” and the 30th anniversary of his playing Sonny Corinthos on the daytime drama series. He will also discuss his popular podcast, “Maurice Benard: State of Mind.” In addition to acting, Benard is a New York Times bestselling author. In 2020, he released his book “Nothing General About It: How Love (and Lithium) Saved Me On and Off General Hospital,” which chronicles his dealings with mental health, bipolar, anxiety and depression, among other topics. “General Hospital” premiered April 1, 1963 and airs weekdays at 2:00 p.m. EDT/1:00 p.m. PDT on ABC. “The View” airs weekdays at 11:00 a.m. EDT/10:00 a.m. PDT on ABC. Produced by ABC News and distributed in national syndication by Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution, “Tamron Hall” airs weekdays. For times and channels, click here. I did some investigating while awaiting your response, and it appears that when our SSL certificate is up for renewal every few months (the lock in your address bar; not me paying a renewal fee, just the certificate updating via a 3rd party provider), not all browsers will update with the new SSL certificate information which from a user standpoint might cause some visitors to be warned that our website is vulnerable to possible viruses. Cloudflare, which handles our SSL certification and has done so for years, I believe, recently addressed this issue and is currently putting out a fix throughout its network to prevent something like this. That being said, please send an email in the future instead of posting on the message boards. We're actively working on a new help section that will combine support services for both the SON Community and the website that will also be available to alert us of such matters.
  9. This is the one area in which Y&R went cheap for the 50th. The font is terrible, the concept makes no sense, and the black background behind the logo is a no, no. Going from black & white to color for the cast shots is an interesting choice and is the only part I liked. The background with the skyline was a bad idea.
  10. Louise Sorel will reprise her iconic role as Vivian Alamain on “Days of our Lives” later this year, she recently announced during an interview with Harvey Brownstone on his YouTube Channel. She began taping this month. When asked by Brownstone how her experience has been since being back on set, Sorel shares that it’s been difficult, particularly now due to Covid and the procedures in place by production. “You’ve got to get tested before you even get into the building. Then you sit in your room and wait until they tell you you’re clear, which could be two hours, at 5:30 in the morning. And then they shoot twice as fast as they ever did.” She adds, “There’s like a quick rehearsal and then [you] shoot it. I haven’t been here in three years, so yesterday, I felt God awful. I mean, I was apologizing. I was fumbling all over the place because they are loading me up with dialogue, and it’s been a while.” Comparing her previous time on the show to her return, Sorel says, “It’s even harder now for all the actors. For the crew, for everybody, because it’s bare. They are taking time away from the work. It’s just, ‘get it done, get it done.’ I’m not blaming anyone, but that’s the way it is. It’s hard.” Sorel joined the cast of “Days of our Lives” in 1992. She played the role of Vivian off and on through 2018, followed by a brief return in 2020. Marj Dusay (“Guiding Light”) took on the character for a time between 1992-1993, and later Robin Strasser (“One Life to Live”) in 2019 and Linda Dano (“Another World”) in 2021. 11. Principal photography is currently underway in Southern California on “A Wine Country Christmas,” the seventh movie from Ali Afshar’s ESX Productions, following Netflix hits “A California Christmas,” “A California Christmas: City Lights” and “I Believe in Santa,” and the popular HBO Max films “A Hollywood Christmas,” “A Christmas Mystery,” and “Holiday Harmony.” The film’s cast includes soap stars Eileen Davidson (“The Young and the Restless”), Annika Noelle (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Josh Swickard (“General Hospital”), among others. Photo by Randy Shropshire via ESX Productions In “A Wine Country Christmas,” Sol Rodriguez (“Grachi”) plays Valentina, a young widow who struggles to keep the local vineyard from falling into the wrong hands while raising her two young boys. Still, she may be in store for a Christmas miracle when she falls for the world’s worst “carpenter.” For his part, Carter (Swickard), a big city playboy, is sent to wine country to get intel on a prospective vineyard for sale after his mother finally tires of him running away from any responsibility. He didn’t count on finding himself in Valentina’s rental apartment for the holidays, trading a place to stay for handiwork. “Consistent demand requires consistent supply and when it comes to Christmas movies, we have a formula that works extremely well and delivers stories that audiences love,” said Afshar in a statement. “Making holiday movies is fun, and we have a dependable group of collaborators who understand our process and creative thinking. We’re so excited to have such an amazing cast for ‘A Wine Country Christmas’ bringing this uplifting story to life. For audiences, it’ll be another warm holiday with a wine country feel.” “A Wine Country Christmas” is expected to be released during the upcoming holiday season, with Warner Bros. handling film distribution via the studio’s licensing department. In addition to Davidson, Noelle, Swickard and Rodriguez, the movie’s cast also includes Omar Gooding (“Deadwood, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac”), Carly Jibson (“The Guest Book,” “Atypical”), Julian Rangal (“The Good Doctor”), and newcomer Carlos Solòrzano. Alex Ranarivelo is directing from a script by Cecília Franco and David Zanardi. Afshar, Christina Moore and Daniel Aspromonte are producing, with Charley DeBenedetti as the executive producer. 12. On the Tuesday, March 21 episode of “The Talk,” Michael Graziadei appeared alongside his co-stars Camryn Grimes, Bryton James and Christel Khalil from “The Young and the Restless” as part of the ongoing 50th anniversary celebration for their show. In a surprise move, Graziadei proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Lauren Carey, who accepted without hesitation. In the lead-up to the proposal, co-host Amanda Kloots noted that Lauren was in the audience and how the two share twin boys, Arlo and Oliver (aka Bear). Then she asked his co-stars which of them got to meet the bundles of joy, to which Khalil and James confirmed they had, and in fact, part of their meeting the tikes led to early conversations of Graziadei coming back to the soap on a full-time basis. “They are adorable. Lauren is fantastic, and I’m glad it all worked out,” said James of meeting the happy family. Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Sheryl Underwood, Michael Graziadei, Lauren Carey, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Christel Khalil, Bryton James, Camryn Grimes, Jerry O’Connell (“The Talk”) Photo by Sonja Flemming/CBS After teasing him about how the secret of his return to the show was far from a secret from the rest of the show’s cast, co-host Natalie Morales pointed out how Graziadei is full of surprises, and she thought he might have just one more in the bag. Handing things over to Graziadei, the actor shared that it was Lauren’s birthday the day prior, and he wondered if he could bring her on stage for what he was about to do. After initial hesitation, she took his hand and stood as he began telling their love story to the audience. “This is my beautiful girlfriend, Lauren. We’ve spent the better half of 10 years together…she’s given me beautiful twins, and I just wanted to do something special for your birthday. So I was thinking, you know, how there is no one on this earth that I would rather grow old and die with. So, I was wondering…if you would marry me? Is that a yes? She said yes!” After all the smiles, claps and happy tears were shed, Lauren was handed a dozen roses, focused on Khalil and James and told them, “I guess I can thank you two for this because he can afford the ring now.” Co-host Akbar Gbajabiamila then asked her if she ever saw this coming, to which she responded, “I mean, it’s been 10 years, so I figured it was never going to happen.” As for how he was feeling, co-host Sheryl Underwood asked Graziadei that very question, and he jokingly said, “I have to pee.” When asked how it feels to share such milestone moments with her fellow castmates, Grimes said, “We’ve been with each other through the good and the bad, the highs, the lows, break ups, you know, loses and marriages. You’re looking at it, you’re looking at the connectivity of a family, and we’re just so lucky that we get to be with each other every day.” Michael Graziadei, Lauren Carey (“The Talk”) Photo by Sonja Flemming/CBS Watch the happy moment from today’s “The Talk” episode below. 13. During last night’s “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” on CNN, former “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria appeared on the show to discuss her career, her causes and her new original series “Searching for Mexico.” During the career segment, host Chris Wallace played a clip of Longoria’s time on “The Young and the Restless” when she played Isabella Braña on the soap. Longoria’s comments about her experience on the series, particularly her working simultaneously as a headhunter and an actress on a daytime soap opera, have since led to controversy on social media. After catching wind of what she said on the program, former co-star Eric Braeden called the actress out for her “derogatory remarks about daytime actors!” Braeden plays the iconic Victor Newman on “The Young and the Restless.” “EVA LONGORIA: you just made derogatory remarks about daytime actors!” began Braeden on Twitter. “You simply weren’t good enough to survive the pressures of this medium! You were very lucky to get on that ‘housewife’ show! You did one show in 8-12 days, with mediocre but salacious dialogue!” He added, “Our actresses would run rings around you!! And they did then!! From Robert [De Niro] to whoever they all are, many of them started in the medium you denigrate! It shows a complete lack of class!! Courtesy of CBS On the CNN program, Wallace shocked Longoria when he said, “You got your first break 20 years ago when you were cast on a very popular soap opera, “The Young and the Restless.” He then prepared to introduce a clip of Longoria on the soap to which she replied while laughing, “Are you going to show a clip of that?” Longoria then braced for a stroll down memory lane as Wallace stated, “Would I do that?” Longoria continued laughing as the clip began, showing her as Isabella in a scene with her former co-star Doug Davidson, who portrayed Paul Williams on the soap at the time. The clip finds Longoria’s Isabella telling Davidson’s Paul that Christine (Lauralee Bell) is dead as the two struggle to get a knife out of Isabella’s hands. After the clip played, a still laughing Longoria told Wallace, “I can’t believe you found that!” In response, Wallace said, “So what I find so interesting, though, is that you were so determined not to be a struggling actress that at the same time that you have this part on a big soap opera, you’re working as a headhunter for a temp agency out of your dressing room in the studio.” Longoria confirmed the story, saying, “Yeah, yeah. When I moved to Hollywood, I had my bachelor’s degree. And so when I tell my mom I’m going to be an actress, she was like, well – she was fine because I had graduated college. Like as long as I finished college. And so I knew I could get a job. I was like, ‘I’ll get a job.’ And I went to a temp agency and they hired me.” She pointed out, “I was so good at it that when I got ‘Young and the Restless,’ it didn’t pay enough for me to live off being an actor. So I continued being a headhunter and Young and the Restless.’ And I would hide the fact I was on Young and the Restless to my clients because they didn’t want, like, a dumb actress handing their accounts.” Longoria then recalled an experience where she was almost outed by one of her clients for being on the daytime soap. “One time one of my clients was like, ‘You look like a girl that I’ve seen on a soap opera.’ And I go, ‘No, that’s not – I don’t know who that – I was like the opposite of a publicist’s dream. I was like, ‘don’t tell anybody I’m on that show. Because I was, you know, still making more money on my day job.” Since Braeden’s tweets went viral, thousands of people have taken sides, interpreting Longoria’s comments the same way Braden did as demeaning to daytime actors while others understood Longoria’s comments as nothing more than a burgeoning actress not wanting her two jobs to interfere with one another. What do you think? Tell us in the comments below. Meanwhile, catch Longoria’s new series, “Eva Longoria: Searching for Mexico” which premieres Sunday, March 26 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on CNN. 14. Created by Lauren Swickard (“A California Christmas”) and Ali Afshar (“He’s Just Not That Into You”), Amazon Freevee has landed the exclusive U.S. streaming rights to “Casa Grande,” a “Yellowstone”-esque but bilingual, neo-Western limited series which follows the everyday realities and conflicts between California’s hardworking, often undocumented migrant workforce and the wealthy landowners who reap the profits. All five one-hour episodes will premiere Monday, May 1 on the streaming service. Courtesy of ESX Entertainment In a statement, Afshar, who also has a starring role in the series, says, “We molded ‘Casa Grande’ as a Hispanic-influenced ‘Yellowstone’ and feel the story will resonate powerfully with audiences appreciating elevated western themes and cultures presented through a different prism. Amazon Freevee is the perfect service for audiences to discover and binge the world of ‘Casa Grande’ where the intensity never lets up and the traditional good vs. evil trope becomes skewed and more challenging to accept.” “I’m immensely proud of the ‘Casa Grande’ team for bringing authenticity to the forefront in ESX Entertainment’s debut series,” added Swickard. “Now more than ever, it’s important to deliver powerful, genuine stories and ‘Casa Grande’ does just that. By touching on real-life themes related to family, class, culture and the never-ending pursuit of the American dream, our multi-layered narrative will captivate audiences of all backgrounds.” Intertwining the lives of various families in the farmlands of Northern California, “Casa Grande” is described as an upstairs/downstairs story transposed from turn-of-the-century English countryside to rural America. The show uses the framework of conventional character drama to explore universal themes of class, immigration, culture and family. The grand theme is peels back the curtain on how the machine we all live in runs: The glimmering, upper-crust culture could not exist without the unyielding, backbreaking, labor of the socially invisible migrant workforce laboring behind the scenes. With the Clarkman Farm and its neighboring property, Dalton Farm, employing, housing and feeding much of Mendocino County’s undocumented immigrants, “Casa Grande” explores the dramatic, truth of our country’s allure for immigrants and what mankind will endure for a taste of the American dream. The series cast includes John Pyper-Ferguson (“The 100,” “Suits”), Christina Moore (“That ‘70s Show,” “90210”), Madison Lawlor (“Juniper”), Karen Bethzabe (“Babylon”), Javier Bolaños (“All American”), Raquel Dominguez (“Chicago Med”), James Marsters (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), Emmy-winner Kate Mansi (“Days of our Lives”), Daniel Edward Mora (“Coco”), Loren Escandon (“The Baxters”) and the aforementioned Afshar. “Casa Grande” is directed by award-winning Latin filmmaker Gabriela Tagliavini (“Despite Everything”) and written by Alex Ranarivelo, Michael Cruz, and Swickard, who also serves as the series showrunner. Series executive producers are Ava Rettke and Daniel Aspromonte. Known for its popular holiday hits on Netflix and HBO Max, including “A California Christmas,” “I Believe in Santa,” “Holiday Harmony” featuring Brooke Shields, and “A Christmas Mystery” starring Violet McGraw (“M3gan”), “Casa Grande” marks the first television series from Afshar’s ESX Entertainment. Amazon Freevee is a streaming video service with thousands of premium movies and TV shows available within Prime Video and through the standalone Freevee app on Fire TV, Fire tablets and many third-party devices. 15. Already renewed for a 32nd season following last year’s surprise move of the hit series to Disney+ after airing for 30 seasons on ABC, “Dancing with the Stars” will be back this fall with several key changes on the horizon. First up: Tyra Banks is out as host of the competition series. According to TMZ, Banks plans to pursue her passion as an entrepreneur. ”Dancing with the Stars” Courtesy of Disney+ Starting with Season 29, Banks replaced perennial host Tom Bergeron as part of ABC’s attempt at diversifying the show’s production in order to gain viewers. After two seasons by herself, Season 19 Mirrorball winner Alfonso Ribeiro stepped in as the show’s co-host. His duties included interviewing the celebrities and their dance partners before and after their televised performances. According to published reports, Ribeiro will become the show’s new emcee, with veteran pro dancer Julianne Hough stepping in as co-host, assuming Ribeiro’s previous responsibilities. Winning two trophies during her tenure, Hough spent three seasons as a permanent judge on the show and was a judge on “America’s Got Talent” for one season. Season 31 of “Dancing with the Stars” saw the departures of Len Goodman as the show’s head judge and Cheryl Burke as a dance pro. Goodman had been with the series since it began in 2005. Burke spent 26 seasons on the program, winning the coveted trophy in Seasons 2 and 3.Starting with Season 32, the panel of judges is expected to consist of returning judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough. “Dancing with the Stars” was reportedly moved to Disney+ as a key measure for Disney-owned ABC to showcase several “Monday Night Football” games as part of a new pact with the NFL. Additionally, the series had become a money loser in recent years following a fall in ratings during its latter seasons on the network. In addition to football, ABC is looking to invest in new and future long-term programming for its Monday night schedule. 16. With “General Hospital” preparing to kick off its 60th anniversary celebration in the coming weeks, the series will welcome back “Grey’s Anatomy” star Chandra Wilson as red carpet correspondent Sydney Val Jean. Meanwhile, “Community” star Yvette Nicole Brown will be on hand for a special episode of the soap that honors the life of Sonya Eddy, the beloved actress who died on December 19 following complications from a surgical procedure she had undergone days prior. Eddy had portrayed head nurse Epiphany Johnson on the daytime drama series since March 2006. Episodes featuring Wilson will air during the week of April 3 when the Nurses Ball marks its return following a two-year absence – the result of real-life events preventing the show’s entire cast from being in close proximity with each other for an extended period. Photos featuring Wilson on the red carpet are currently available via TVLine. The Nurses Ball is an annual event put together by General Hospital nurses to bring HIV/AIDS awareness. The event was first introduced in 1994 and has been emceed by Lucy Coe (played by Lynn Herring) more than a dozen times. The special episode dedicated to Eddy will air on Wednesday, March 29. Brown’s role is currently being kept under wraps, but her appearance is noteworthy as she and Eddy had been real-life friends for decades. “I first met @sonyaeddy back in 2003 when we both were testing for the sitcom #TheBigHouse. From that moment on she became a dear friend of mine. I collected her,” said Brown in an Instagram post following news of Eddy’s passing. “Sonya, @octaviaspencer, @thecurvycritic and I walked with each other thru the “salad” days of our careers. Supporting each other as we chased this dream. Often auditioning for the same things, always celebrating whoever won the gig. Sonya was a force. She was unapologetically joyous and a loyal friend. The world lost a real one last night. @generalhospitalabc will never be the same without her and none of us who knew and loved her will be either. Thanks @dionimichellecollins for all you did. You took good care of our friend. Rest well, Sonya #RIPSonyaEddy. TV Insider first reported Brown’s casting. 18. It was a great party! Well organized and had a lot of people around, past and present. Probably one of the best soap events I've ever seen put together. I got to interview a lot of people, many of whom would love to return to Genoa City if the opportunity were to ever arise.

Scheduled to launch during the fall portion of the 2023-2024 broadcast television season, CBS has announced a name change for its new drama series starring and executive produced by Justin Hartley (“The Young and the Restless”). Previously known as “The Never Game,” the retitled series will now go by “Tracker.” Despite the name change, the series remains based on the bestselling novel “The Never Game” by Jeffrey Deaver. In the series, Hartley plays a lone-wolf survivalist named Colter Shaw who roams the country as a “reward seeker” that uses his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries while contending with his own fractured family. In addition to Hartley, Ken Olin, Ben H. Winters and Hilary Weisman also serve as executive producers for the 20th Television produced series. Olin directed the pilot from a script written by Winters. The featured cast includes Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany, Eric Graise and Fiona Rene. Check out a sneak peek clip from the new series below. 21. Outside of the acquired series "Yellowstone," only Peacock's newest show, "Poker Face," and "The Best Man: The Final Chapters" have been able to crack the Nielsen Top 10 in terms of streaming originals. The rest have either been canceled or are in their second seasons (see "Bel-Air"). Thus far, we don't know actual numbers for any streaming exclusive program beyond Nielsen's Top 10 list. Additionally, each streamer can claim success for their shows any way they want, but only Nielsen and Netflix release any specifics. Otherwise, Peacock stating for the first time in a PR that "DAYS" is a consistent Top 10 show marks the only real data we have on how the show performs on the service. Hence, two-year renewal.
  22. "Days of our Lives" has been renewed for two additional seasons at Peacock. Note: Peacock reveals that the show is a consistent top 10 show, marking the first time the service has presented any data on how the show is performing on the service.

  24. Peacock has renewed “Days of our Lives” for two additional seasons, keeping the daytime drama series in production through a historic 60th anniversary season. According to the service, since the show’s move last September to become the only streaming exclusive daily serial in the United States, “Days of our Lives” has been a consistent top 10 title on Peacock, making the renewal a no-brainer for the Corday Productions produced series in association with Sony Pictures Television. In November, Soap Opera Network had heard rumblings of a renewal being on the horizon, with another two-year deal likely. This has now been confirmed with today’s announcement. The previous deal, announced in May 2021, gave the show its first multi-year pickup in over a decade. Ken Corday is the show’s executive producer, with Albert Alarr continuing as co-executive producer. Ron Carlivati continues to serve as the show’s head writer. Since its launch on November 8, 1965, “Days of our Lives” has received 61 Daytime Emmy Awards, including its most recent win in 2022 for Outstanding Writing for a Daytime Drama. To date, the show has received 392 Daytime Emmy nominations, multiple People’s Choice Awards, GLAAD Media Awards and Prism Awards.
