Jacklyn Zeman, who for over 45 years portrayed the role of Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Spencer on “General Hospital” has died. Executive producer Frank Valentini announced the news late this evening on social media. Zeman was just 70 years old. Zeman joined the “General Hospital” cast in December 1977 after a relatively short run playing Lana McClain on “One Life to Live.” When she wasn’t playing a nurse in Port Charles, she appeared in Bay City as Sofia Madison on “The Bay.” The recipient of five Daytime Emmy Award nominations throughout her career, three of which were for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series (1981, 1995 and 1997) for her role as Bobbie Spencer on “General Hospital.” She also received an Outstanding Lead Actress nomination in 1998 for her work on the daytime drama series. She was most recently nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Fiction Program category for her role in “The Bay.” “On behalf of our @GeneralHospital family, I am heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved @JackieZeman,” said Valentini on Twitter. “Just like her character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer, she was a bright light and true professional that brought so much positive energy with her to work.” He added, “Jackie will be greatly missed, but her positive spirit will always live on with our cast and crew. We send our heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones, friends, and family, especially her daughters Cassidy and Lacey.” “Jacklyn Zeman has been a beloved member of the ‘General Hospital’ and ABC family since she originated the iconic role of Bobbie Spencer over 45 years ago. CBS on Wednesday released its 2023-2024 primetime schedule, which sees most of the network’s lineup staying intact, except for expanded editions of “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race” on Wednesdays, new dramas “Elsbeth” and “Matlock,” and moving “CSI: Vegas” to Sundays. Reprising her role as Elsbeth Tascioni from “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight,” Carrie Preston takes her intriguing character from Chicago to New York City when the astute but unconventional attorney utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD. After leaving her successful legal career in Chicago to tackle a new investigative role in New York City, Elsbeth finds herself jockeying with the toast of the NYPD, Captain C.W. Wagner (Wendell Pierce). Working alongside Elsbeth is Officer Kaya Blanke (Carra Patterson), a stoic and ethical officer who quickly develops an appreciation for Elsbeth’s insightful and offbeat ways. As Matty endeavors to establish herself in her new high-stakes world, she works alongside the firm’s younger associates – the charismatic Billy (David Del Rio) and the uber-ambitious Sarah (Leah Lewis). This “Matlock” s inspired by the classic television series of the same name and even references the TV original occasionally. The show takes over the Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT slot. The best ratings I believe JFP’s OLTL got was the Georgie Phillips storyline. Those demos, IIRC, were so good the show was topping GH consistently. Again, that’s why she got the GH gig. The next time OLTL started doing that again was ironically when it got canceled under Ron, which is why despite canceling the show itself the network extended the contracts of Ron and Frank which later led to them both getting GH.

This era wasn't JFP. She didn't start until 1997. Because OLTL was doing so well, particularly in those demos, as you said, she got the gig at GH.

That would NOT fly on daytime today, especially if it were the other way around.

During the week of May 1-5, 2023, every daytime broadcast show was virtually even with their week ago performances in the all-important Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 sales demographics, except for “The Young and the Restless” (3.411 million) which was down a tenth in both Women 18-49 (0.3 rating vs. 0.4 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.5 rating vs. 0.6 rating). The second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” was down a tenth in Women 25-54 (0.4 rating vs. 0.5 rating). In Total Viewers, “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.514 million) and “TODAY 3rd Hour” (1.960 million) gained the most viewers week-to-week, up +36,000 viewers and +34,000 viewers, respectively. Both half hours of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.330 million / 2.7 million), “The Young and the Restless” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.482 million) were the only other shows to see week-to-week increases in viewers. Compared to the same week two years ago, “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.956 million) continue to outperform their 2021 results, adding +141,000 viewers and +190,000 viewers, respectively. The only other show to manage an increase of over 100,000 viewers was “The Talk” (1.427 million), which added +103,000 viewers over its performance in 2021. Speaking of “The Talk,” in Households, the show dropped a tenth week-to-week, hitting a 0.9 rating. The show was also down year-to-year (0.9 rating vs. 1.0 rating) and tied for last place in Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating. It was beaten by “NBC News Daily” (1.066 million) in the unrounded demos. As first reported by Soap Opera Network last week, ABC has established the “General Hospital” Spotlight Channel which gives fans of the daytime drama series a chance to relive some of their favorite storylines via the free, ad-supported television (FAST) service which sees episodes aired “LIVE” 24/7, similar to a marathon*. In celebration of the channel’s launch, ABC has published a brand new promo across the show’s social media explaining everything fans need to know as stated in voiceover form by stars Laura Wright and Maurice Benard, who play Sonny Corinthos and Carly Spencer, respectively, on the series. “It’s the best of Port Charles,” begins Wright in the promo. “Watch full episodes of ‘General Hospital’ on the all-new ‘General Hospital’ Spotlight Channel, only on ABC.com and the ABC App. So, come with me, Laura Wright…,” she says before pausing. “And me, Maurice Benard. Relive your favorite storylines over and over beginning with Sonny and Mike’s Alzheimer’s saga,” Benard states as he takes over voiceover work. He returns it to Wright, who adds, “All the drama. After shutting down production last week due to the ongoing writers strike, the final pre-strike all-new episode of “The Talk” will air on Thursday, May 11, Soap Opera Network has learned. The show will begin airing reruns starting Friday, May 12. According to Deadline, “The Talk” stopped production as its staff includes striking WGA writers. The show is expected to remain dark until the WGA (Writers Guild of America) and the AMPTP ( Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) resolve their contract issues. Preempted today, May 9 and tomorrow, May 10 for CBS Sports coverage of the UEFA Champions League games, “The Talk” aired an all-new pre-taped episode on Monday, May 8 which featured Marcia Gay Harden (“So Help Me Todd”) and actresses Golda Rosheuvel and India Amarteifio. The final all-new pre-taped episode will air on Thursday, May 11 and includes Rose McIver (“Ghosts”) and Dania Ramirez as guests. On Friday, May 12, the first rerun scheduled features director, producer and co-writer Kenya Barris discussing his film “You People” and actor Kevin Alejandro from “Fire Country.” The episode originally aired on January 27, 2023. For the second week in a row, “Live with Kelly and Mark” was the highest-rated and most-watched daytime talk show – network or syndicated – across all key Nielsen measures, including Households (1.6 rating), Total Viewers (2.320 million) and Women 25-54 (0.6 rating) during the week of April 24-28, 2023, the most current week in which daytime syndicated talk show ratings are available. Continuing to outperform its year ago performance in both Households (+7% – 1.6 rating vs. 1.5 rating) and Total Viewers (+6% – 2.320 million vs. 2.181 million), “Live with Kelly and Mark” also topped the week among all entertainment talk shows (daytime and late-night). The show was even with its year ago and week-to-week performance among Women 25-54 (0.6 rating). “Live with Kelly and Mark” is distributed in national syndication by Disney Entertainment. Earlier this year, it was reported that executives at NBCUniversal discussed moving Kelly Clarkson’s syndicated daytime talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” from Los Angeles to the New York City area beginning with the show’s fifth season. Months later, Variety reports via a spokesperson that a deal has been made which will see the show taping at the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NBC’s New York headquarters. Reportedly, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will take over Studio 6A which previously housed late-night shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien and even David Letterman. A new state-of-the-art studio will be built over the summer along with space for technical facilities and support services. The move to New York stems from Clarkson’s desire to be in an area with more than “one season,” she said in an interview with Variety last year. New York’s newly expanded tax credit also incentivizes eligible productions that relocate to the state by reducing the eligibility requirement from five years of filming to just two years, specifically for talk and variety shows. Besides Clarkson herself, those expected to be heading to the North East include executive producer and showrunner Alex Duda and musical director Jason Halbert. Variety notes through a source that “details are still being ironed out regarding the show’s entire staff,” much of whom have been with the show since it debuted in 2019. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” enters a demanding market in terms of gathering an in-studio audience, joining the likes of staples “The View,” “Live with Kelly and Mark,” “Tamron Hall,” “The Drew Barrymore Show” and “Sherri.” Only “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and “The Talk” remain Los Angeles-based daytime talkers. So far this season, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has averaged 1.37 million daily viewers. It took over the coveted 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT time period on the Owned NBC stations previously occupied by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Already renewed for a fifth and sixth season, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is cleared to air through at least the 2024-2025 television season. Following our earlier report, CBS has made it official. “S.W.A.T.” will be back for a seventh and final season. “We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for ‘S.W.A.T.’ and we have reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air during the 2023-2024 broadcast year,” said CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and Sony Pictures Television Studios President Katherine Pope in a joint statement. “‘S.W.A.T.’ has aired for six seasons on CBS and garnered a devoted following. We are pleased that we found a way to bring it back and give closure to the show’s storylines and characters, which audiences deserve. Once again, we appreciate the talents and efforts of the cast, writers, producers and crew and everyone who has contributed to the success of ‘S.W.A.T.’ We look forward to its return next season.” Shortly before the news broke, series star Shemar Moore took to Instagram and shared a Deadline article highlighting the potential for renewal, saying, “Keep making noise @swatcbs FAM!!! We are still trying to bring you that 7th Season!!!” With the series renewed, Moore is reportedly said to be given executive producer credit on the show’s final episodes. In a comment posted in an Instagram story, Moore said, “We did it SWAT Fam!!” He later added the following message on his Instagram page: “Ayyeee!!!!! We did it #SWATFAM!!! @swatcbs is coming back for a 7th and Final season with 13 Episodes!!! Thank you to all of you for the continued and amazing support!! Let’s go.” On the show, Moore stars as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a former Marine and locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. After “S.W.A.T.” was abruptly canceled on Friday after talks broke down between CBS and lead studio Sony Pictures Television over a potential seventh season renewal, it would appear the show might not be done after all. According to a report by Deadline, talks between the studio and the network are currently swaying at a potential 13-episode seventh season, with resolution expected by the end of the day after discussion continued over the weekend, despite the shocking cancellation announcement on Friday. Timing is everything, however, as CBS is set to release its 2023-2024 fall primetime schedule to advertisers on Wednesday, May 10 and if a deal can be made “S.W.A.T.” could appear on that schedule with either a fall slot or as a midseason replacement. In the series, Moore plays Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a former Marine and locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, Hondo strives to bridge the divide between his two worlds. Depending on the outcome, the season or series finale is set to air Friday, May 19 on CBS. Currently, there's no verifiable information on what the shows plan to do writing wise as the strike progresses. With the DGA contract talks beginning this week and a bleak chance a deal will be struck if one isn't already with the WGA by the time the DGA contract expires, there's a big chance we'll see more than just a need to find writers. I wouldn't go by history, especially when you consider that there were eight soaps on the air during the last strike. There are now only four now. People don't want to lose their rights unless they are currently in a position of power to do so.

On Friday, May 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT, fans of the Hannah Swensen Mystery series will get their latest fix when Hallmark Movies & Mysteries premieres “Carrot Cake Murder: A Hannah Swensen Mystery” starring Alison Sweeney (“Days of our Lives”) and Cameron Mathison (“General Hospital”). I believe the cover price is $6.99 or $7.99 now. When it comes to their respective websites there is no real overhead except maintenance which could be a single person across multiple websites owned by a360media. As for the sites themselves, they just pay freelancers to write articles, particularly at SID. Now that I know both are owned by the same company it makes sense why I once saw Chris Eades (most frequent author on SID website) had his name on a SOD post a few months ago…one of the few times SOD wasn’t the author name. IIRC at one point Carolyn had to leave SOD because she took a job at InTouch, which I think was owned by Bauer which is now owned by a360media, SOD’s parent company. A bit of irony.
