  1. There are just seven weeks left in the 2022-2023 broadcast television season, and the race to the finish line can’t come fast enough. During the week of July 24-28, 2023, there was nothing to write home about for most daytime broadcast shows except for ABC’s “The View” (2.325 million). Although down week-to-week among Total Viewers (-16,000), the series improved its performance compared to the same week last year by +16,000 viewers. Compared to two years earlier, “The View” was up +136,000 viewers. Meanwhile, “NBC News Daily” (1.085 million) was the only series to see week-to-week improvement among viewers, gaining +82,000 viewers. “The Young and the Restless” (3.107 million), “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.769 million), “The View,” “General Hospital” (2.057 million) and “TODAY 3rd Hour” (1.709 million) closed the week in the Top 5 spots, excluding “The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal” both of which aired amended repeats for the week. On Wednesday, July 26, the broadcast networks aired special coverage of President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, entering a plea of guilty during a court hearing that was aired live. As a result, “The Bold and the Beautiful” aired for just 21 minutes while “NBC News Daily” was amended and broken out (retitled to “NBC News Daily – ND”). “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.541 million) and “The View” each aired for just 31 minutes. Why we don’t have Households or Total Viewers for “The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal” Note*: Officially, rankings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. We are separately providing the unrounded demos for informational purposes only. “NBC News Daily” year ago and two years ago figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.” Ratings for Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 were unavailable at press time. “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price is Right” and “The Talk”** aired repeats all week and are excluded from the rankings. 2. According to a report by The Daily Mail, “Days of our Lives” will formally acknowledge the absence of the Victor Kiriakis character, famously played by the late John Aniston, in scenes set to air later this month and into early September on the daytime soap opera. The outlet reveals that the character will be killed off in a plane crash, a method which allegedly doesn’t sit well with real-life daughter Jennifer Aniston. “Jennifer hates to fly so this has rubbed her the wrong way but what can she do? They have to explain Victor’s death on the show,” a source told the publication, which shared that Jennifer has become close with some of her father’s co-stars in the months following his passing. Reportedly, Jennifer has been coping with the loss of her father by reaching out to his colleagues at the show, even going so far as to host them at her home. “Jennifer has sent his friends gifts and called them and remember their birthdays and been a real sweetie,” claimed an insider. The source further states, “[Jennifer] has been incredibly generous and has had his friends up to her house for parties to talk about the good old days with John.” In February, while celebrating her birthday, Jennifer thanked everyone for their well wishes in a post on Instagram as she reminisced about her parents, saying of dad John and her late mom Nancy Dow, “Thinking about these two humans that created me as I bask in the afterglow of a beautiful birthday. Thank you ALL for my birthday wishes. I felt sooooo much love from so many and ALL of it is going to carry me through this wild and beautifully unknown year ahead. I love you!” In response to Jennifer’s post, Stephen Nichols, who plays Steve Johnson on “Days of our Lives” said, “Happy Birthday, Jennifer. Just prepping a ‘DAYS’ script which honors your dad, airing in August.” Courtesy of Peacock John Aniston passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022. He last appeared “Days of our Lives” as Victor Kiriakis on the Monday, December 26, 2022 episode, which included a montage of some of his most memorable scenes. The episode ended with an “In Loving Memory” title card, which said, “Good Night, Sweet Prince; and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest…” “Days of our Lives” airs Weekdays on Peacock. 4. The only BS part I see is her allegedly having a problem with it because she has a phobia of flying. If she indeed has a problem with the method of how they are killing off her father's character, I'd think it's that they should have at least let his long-running character die of natural causes, which would have been much more respectful. Killing Victor in a "dramatic fashion" is clearly the soapy thing to do, but when you have a long-running character played by an actor who had been on the show for quite a while, I'd prefer the less dramatic path and would like them to have the character pass naturally. But that's me.
  5. Well, Saved by the Bell is getting it's own channel, so I definitely think California Dreams will be in there. It has to!!!!
  6. They are just missing the "FOREVER!" part. Haha
  7. I'm hoping it's in the "And more" part. So many good shows from the TNBC era. What I hate about these Fast channels is they know these are the kinds of shows we want to watch regularly, but they give us too many programs that fall into a small niche. I mean the networks themselves. Instead of airing broad based shows that will appeal to everyone, they air shows that appeal to small groups.
  8. Despite airing reruns all week, “The Price is Right” continues to rule daytime broadcast, at least in the all-important female sales demographics. The popular game show, which just snagged a slot on CBS’ primetime schedule (shared with “Let’s Make a Deal”), ranked first and second in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 with its second and first half hours, respectively. “The View” (2.341 million), “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.570 million) and “TODAY 3rd Hour” (1.867 million) were the big winners among Total Viewers, gaining over +100,000 viewers compared to one week earlier. Compared to the same week last year, “The View” was also up +117,000 viewers and “GMA3” was up +31,000 viewers. Among Women 18-49, “NBC News Daily” (1.003 million) again fell into the 0.1 range. The news show ranked last in Women 25-54, posting a mere 0.2 rating in the demo. 9. I am looking forward to this the most (my childhood!): TNBC: Rediscover these laugh-out-loud fan-favorite sitcoms from Teen NBC. These timeless stories about the highs and lows of growing up are relatable for any audience, young or old. Series include: “Punky Brewster,” “City Guys,” “Hang Time,” “Major Dad” and more.
  10. Ideally, no one. With non-union writers writing during a strike, the show should have shut down. I don't like that option. You don't like it. But that's the point of the strike. The fact that the soaps continue without scab/fi-core writers goes against everything the union stands for. That said, if someone chooses to do so (scab/fi-core), it benefits the show long-term but hurts the individual the most. Yes, when you turn your back on the union, which is what scabbing/going fi-core is, it creates internal conflict with members who did strike and fought for the benefits they all will enjoy under the new contract. It's like if you sat out in the sun for 48 hours to win a car. Why should someone who didn't also get a car? Essentially those who go fi-core or scab do it for money. I'd say power, but there's no guarantee they'll even have a job when the strike is over. So, pure money. Full benefits of the union, except will be frowned upon when writing jobs become available in terms of hiring, and won't be eligible for recognition by the union come awards time. Again, money.
  11. Exactly! To get a New York PR firm to handle PR for an LA show, that's something!
  12. So, it looks like things ARE happening behind the scenes... The show has hired a new PR agency, 42West.
  13. No, it is not better. The "process" is just a legality. Anyone working during a strike is forgoing any long-term benefits won after the strike is over because their voice within the union is non-existent and they'll never be recognized by the union in terms of awards and they put themselves in jeopardy of never getting another writing gig again. Unless one is guaranteed employment at their show for the rest of their lives, Fi-Core is the worst thing one can do.
  14. Not true. The show does not currently employ Peter and contract terms do not bind him. Current cast members are, however, bound by their contracts and could have been instructed to keep quiet or else face retaliation or termination.
  15. Which she should. They are union breakers. Soap writers fall into the same union and the same contract as all scripted TV and movie writers do. Only SAG-AFTRA has different contracts for its members. For writers, GH is a struck project. Not for actors, however.
  16. Let's be clear. Her issue was writers who bypassed the union strike and are writing scripts. She's valid in her opinion on that. Lisa is talking about writers. Not the actors.
  17. With her character shipped off to Bayview Sanitarium last year after she faced charges of attempted murder and planting a bomb at Susan’s memorial service, fans thought they had seen the last of Ava Vitali on “Days of our Lives.” Think again. Beginning in early August, Tamara Braun will once again reprise her role as Ava on the daytime drama series, and she’ll even get to share her first scenes back working alongside her former “General Hospital” co-star Steve Burton, who now appears as Harris Michaels on the show. Braun portrayed Carly Corinthos (2001-2005) and Kim Nero (2017-2019) on the ABC soap, while Burton played Jason Morgan. Braun first appeared on “Days of our Lives” in 2008 as Ava. She returned briefly to the show in 2011, this time playing a recast Taylor Walker, the younger sister of Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker). From 2015-2016, Braun again returned to Salem as Ava before formally extending her stay starting in 2020. She last appeared on the series on the December 20, 2022 episode when Ava was sent to Bayview, which is where she’ll be when we pick up with her storyline. In 2020, Braun won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Kim on “General Hospital.” She previously won in the same category in 2009 for her portrayal as Ava on “Days of our Lives.” Note: The post Tamara Braun Back to ‘Days of our Lives’ as Ava Vitali appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 18. Following news of a misconduct investigation brought against “Days of our Lives” co-executive producer and director Albert Alarr, Lisa Rinna, who famously portrayed Billie Reed on the daytime drama series and spinoff “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” (Chapter One), took to her Instagram stories to seemingly confirm what sources told Deadline about Alarr’s conduct behind the scenes. In a since-deleted Instagram story, Rinna said, “Karma is a bitch,” in response to the allegations brought against Alarr. She added, “Well, this took a long time. Let’s see, when’s the last time I went over there and did that week on Peacock I couldn’t believe the work environment. It was disgusting. I was shocked. I let many people know how I felt, Albert included, and they didn’t do a thing until now, it seems.” In a statement released to Deadline in response to the misconduct investigation brought against Alarr, Corday Productions said, “Corday Productions engaged Sony Pictures Television, which distributes ‘Days of our Lives,’ to conduct an impartial investigation into this matter.” It added, “After a two-month investigation, the independent investigator produced a report with its findings. Based on those findings, Corday Productions has taken a series of actions designed to ensure a safe and respectful work environment.” There was no official information provided on what actions were taken to “ensure a safe and respectful work environment” for the show’s cast and crew, although sources told Deadline that “Alarr received a written warning and was asked to undergo training. Beyond that, he remained in his co-EP and director roles, sparking outrage among cast and crew aware of the allegations and the investigation.” Rinna originated the role of Billie Reed on “Days of our Lives” in 1992. She remained with the show until 1995 before taking on roles in primetime, including “Melrose Place.” She reprised the role of Billie again in 2002-2003 and 2012-2013. She again returned to the series for a select number of episodes in 2018, and in 2021 played the character on the five-episode limited series spin-off, which aired exclusively on Peacock. “Days of our Lives” would eventually become a Peacock exclusive series as of September 2022. For eight seasons, Rinna starred on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” She announced her exit from the series earlier this year. 19. Behind on things, but I finally did my article on the matter and I included this part: Additionally, the show’s in-house PR department was laid off at the end of June, leaving all inquiries by the press to be handled by those close to Alarr, with all email inquiries about the show to include a CC to Alarr as well. https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2023/07/turmoil-behind-the-scenes-days-of-our-lives-co-ep-albert-alarr-investigated-misconduct The claim was budget, but Alarr is raking in millions a year as co-ep and director, so...
  20. An internal misconduct investigation against “Days of our Lives” co-executive producer and director Albert Alarr was recently concluded, Deadline reported on Tuesday. Launched in March, the nine-week investigation was “triggered by a complaint related to a recent round of layoffs,” said the outlet. The complaint, filed by a female employee, alleges that a number of recent staff cuts had “disproportionally impacted women” who were not receiving equal pay on the show compared to their male counterparts, people close to the matter told the outlet. ”Days of our Lives” Courtesy of Corday Productions, Inc. Overall, seven contract actresses are said to have departed the series around the time of the layoffs, five of whom were either let go altogether or dropped to recurring status. The remaining two actresses reportedly made the decision to leave the series on their own. Separately, one male actor was laid off. That said, due to the show’s advanced tape-to-air schedule, it’s unclear if any of the unnamed talent who’ve left the series continue appearing on screen. In its reporting, Deadline noted that Alarr is a regular director for the series, often directing the episode that air on Fridays. “The one full-time female director on the show helms the Monday shows, working alongside three full-time male directors including Alarr, who directs the Friday episodes. Another female director is part of a rotation for the fifth weekly slot that has multiple part-time helmers alternating,” the publication shared. The investigation was handled by Sony Pictures Television, distributor of the series, with multiple allegations presented against Alarr, including his becoming “much more tyrannical” after he was named co-executive producer of the daytime drama soap opera in 2015. Insiders told Deadline, Alarr had been “abusive, making people feel uncomfortable and humiliated.” One veteran told the outlet, “I think he became much more aware of his unilateral power, and that Ken [Corday, series owner and executive producer] wasn’t going to be involved in decision-making. And I think [Alarr] took the ball and ran with it, and I think it’s ruined the show.” Another source said, “Albert has a habit of belittling people, especially people he wants to put down,” while also noting that many women have left the toxic work environment, including several actresses who played major roles. Claims against Alarr reportedly also involved his handling of situations that pertain to male actors on the show, according to a source to Deadline. “Men also have been publicly bullied on set, with at least one male cast member departing abruptly after Alarr screamed at him in front of cast and crew,” said the source. The alleged “verbal attack” occurred “after the actor had gotten a hair trim, which he apologized for even though he wasn’t on contract at the time.” The probe into Alarr’s alleged misconduct behind the scenes as both co-EP and as a regular director on the series is said to have included a large number of complaints stemming from comments Alarr made to and about people publicly. “It’s kind of a running joke that everything that comes out of Albert’s mouth is inappropriate,” said a longtime employee quoted by Deadline. Another pointed out, “After a while, you stop cringing and just get used to it.” Approximately 30-40 people, largely made of women, were interviewed by Sony as part of the investigation. Neither Alarr nor Sony commented on Deadline’s story. However, Corday Productions, which produces the daytime drama series, said in a statement released to Deadline, “Corday Productions engaged Sony Pictures Television, which distributes ‘Days of our Lives,’ to conduct an impartial investigation into this matter.” It added, “After a two-month investigation, the independent investigator produced a report with its findings. Based on those findings, Corday Productions has taken a series of actions designed to ensure a safe and respectful work environment.” At press time, there was no official information provided on what actions were taken to “ensure a safe and respectful work environment” for the show’s cast and crew, although sources told Deadline that “Alarr received a written warning and was asked to undergo training. Beyond that, he remained in his co-EP and director roles, sparking outrage among cast and crew aware of the allegations and the investigation.” In mid-June, the show began what was to be a two-week break, but an extra week was tacked on “because there weren’t enough scripts due to the writers strike,” Deadline noted. Additionally, the show’s in-house PR department was laid off at the end of June, leaving all inquiries by the press to be handled by those close to Alarr, with all email inquiries about the show to include a CC to Alarr as well. 21. I have contacts at Peacock and their email addresses. My comment was just pointing out that when I want something from the show, whether it be an interview, a request for comment on a story, or anything related to the show, the press is required to CC Albert as of the closing of the show's PR department. Currently, the point of contact is someone who works directly for Albert.
  22. To emphasize my comment... Any email sent to whoever is in charge of PR these days at DAYS, the press is required to CC Albert. Never in my life did I ever expect to know the email address of an EP, much less be expected to email them about PR matters. While I can guess or outright know the email addy's for the other EPs and writers, I never email them out of respect for the job of PR.
  23. Per the story, NBC previously handled HR when the network owned the show's studio space. It seems that HR matters reverted to Sony when NBC sold the lot and it became Burbank Studios. Otherwise, nope. Not usual not to have HR but I think it mostly depends on the size of the company. B&B and DAYS are the only shows not wholly owned by a major studio/network, so it's not surprising either of them wouldn't have their own HR departments as I'm pretty sure CBS handles B&B's HR matters leaving DAYS to rely on Sony.
