All: On AMC do you think the character of Erica Kane

When Agnes Nixon pitched her AMc soap bible to the networks in 1965,she was turned down. But when Nixon became the headwriter for AW in 1967 she created the character of Rachel Davis who was patterned after the Erica Kane character on AMC.Both characters wanted to have success and wealth and life. But there is one difference Rachel Davis was allowed to grow up and evolve and had began to have her dreams of wealth and success come true and had evolved into the show's matriarch in later years and was apart of the glue that held AW together even after Mac's passing in 1989.The same cannot be said for the Erica Kane character on AMC.I don't think I ever seen a character so self-centered and childish refusing to learn from her mistakes for onceand learn to grow up.On AW ,the birth Ada McGowan's late-in-life child Nancy was apart of a turning point for Rachel. There seems to have been no real turning point in the character of Erica to make her grow up.Not even the death of her mother Mona has seemed to make the character grow up.I place the blame on writers, producers, and the network executives for the lack of transformation.I think it would be more engaging to the viewers and fans if the other characters were written in such a way by not being an enabler for Erica's childish antics by having the whole town turn against her to make see herself and then lose the money and fortune she has appeared to work for all these years. Why not let Erica age gracefully not having her fawn over man in town over the age of 21.

I don't think so - I love Erica just the way she is! :)

IMO, Erica would be boring if she "grew up" I love to hate her. She bugs me at times with her selfishness but that is so her. The divaness has got to stay

I really think it's time for them to mature this character, and plus, La Lucci has been showing her age lately.

I'd love it if there was a mega-!@#$%^&*] to rival Erica and put her in her place. Kinda like how Iris tortured Rachel on AW. Maybe that could've fully happened had Greenlee stuck around.

However, I imagine if Agnes stuck around and had longer history with AW, Rachel probably wouldn't have matured.

I find Erica really boring at the moment, her selfish [!@#$%^&*] is getting really exhausting.

Erica has matured on many levels, but we don't want her to mature to the point that she's a pod. I hate pod characters (like Amelia Heinle's Victoria until last week).

Erica could mellow out a little, but still keep her mega-bitch diva streak that only she could do.

She did grow a lot. Are you forgetting when Erica and Kendall finally patched things up? That was a HUGE growing experience. They hated each other for so long.

Erica grows up and regresses in each storyline. She finally took control when Bianca was raped but then proceeded to become a Vegas showgirl. She became a mother to Reggie and Lily but soon ignored them for her television show. And now she should be doing damage control on her son but is wallowing in self indulgence.

With proper writing, Erica could be fierce again. I agree, she's been fairly inconsistent these past few years.

Without question it is time for Erica Kane to mature and accept her age. Come now,the character has been with the show since the beginning. She cannot and should not be on a par with the younger actresses and their characters on the show. She should truly grow(Both character and actress). It is high time she did.

I don't really see in what ways Erica needs to mature or act her age or evolve. I mean, if she were a real person, it'd be nice for her to be less flighty and self-centered, but those are character traits without which she wouldn't be particularly interesting.

She has grown in some ways. She's fully committed to Jack and doesn't put her interests ahead of his in the same selfish way that she used to with men. She's fiercely protective of her family.

It's not as though they have her in a triangle with Aiden and Ryan. Her current story is a family-centered, history-based one (rewritten and shat-upon history aside). I don't want to see her become some watered-down matriarch who has nothing to do but wring her hands and pray.

Great post Michael. I think since she FINALLY dealt with her past (her father and Richard Fields) Erica has made great strides in maturing but still maintains her edge that makes her who she is :) She is able to love one man completely now and can accept his love in return. She isn't afraid of being abandoned any longer and she has a deep love for her family and will do anything to protect them. At the same time she can still snark with the best of them and I love her for it
