New HW for GH?

B&B got to #2 because of Bill Bell's writing and the locked-in Y&R lead-in.

Unfortunately, the writing has been a problem since Brad took over. His attention span is worse than a 5-year old's, and he can only recycle the same couple of stories (SLs his father helped to establish) again and again.

Looking at the Santa Barbara thread, B&B could be a 1/2 hour SB if it wanted to be. Instead, like Ridge, a little tired round the edges. I credit Patrick Mulcahey's presence as having lifted the show over the last year, though. But, honestly, Brad needs to step back as HW because it's not his forte.

As for GH, if Claire Labine and Mulcahey came on as co-HWs, I think I would cry with happiness. They are my fave writers in soaps and GH is their perfect fit -- and needs them badly.

Is there an ABC soap that DOESN'T need a new head write?

Sigh.

Sheffer at DAYS, Latham at Y&R, a primetime writer groomed for ABC, and possible Mulchahey at GH. This pisses me off. Every soap is finally trying to get their brains out of their collective asses except GL!

Claire Labine’s time as head writer is considered memorable by many GH viewers, but wasn’t there some criticism towards the end of her stint? That the show had become very dark and depressing due to an overload of social issue storylines.

If this HW rumor is true, ABC could possibly bring in Sheri Anderson and Margaret DePriest to co-head write GH since they worked so well together on Days in the early 1980s. Didn’t DePriest co-head write GH along side Pat Falken Smith with Anderson serving as an associate head writer?

The two could shift the focus back to the lives of the Port Charles citizens revolving around the hospital. GH would once again have stories that involve family and relationships that are filled with romance and honest human emotion. They could re-inject the secret agent/action/adventure and romance aspects back into Luke, Laura, Robert and Anna since the two writers were part of the writing staff that made it famous on GH, and then on Days.

I liked a lot of what DePriest did at Another World during the 80s, before all my favorite actors departed en masse. But she also wrote Frankie's horrible murder on her second go-around which makes me real nervous. Especially as she would be again paired with Jill Farren Phelps. *shudder* I wonder what MDP's up to these days? She was at Sunset Beach but that was almost ten years ago.

As for Labine, I suppose she got some criticism for GH becoming 'depressing' though B.J's and Stone's deaths had plenty of uplifting beats to them. GH right now is so dreary I'd take some genuine human emotion with my depressing stories any day of the week. The "damn, GH is depressing" rap was compounded by the fact that John Berardino and Rosalind Cash (Steve Hardy and Mary Mae Ward) died IRL during her tenure.

The major issue with a Labine return might be that Tony Geary has been very vocal about hating her envisioning of Luke.

For everyone jealous of all these rumored changes, nothing has happened yet. I have a teensy bit of hope, but I'm preparing myself emotionally for the news that Guza has signed a ten year, iron-clad extension.

If I recall she made Luke into a family man, right? I never had a problem with that. Things were very emotional during her tenure but very uplifting.
