AMC: It's worse than we thought

SOD had that item about the casting of Sydney, who will have a surprising connection to a long-time PV resident. We were speculating about who it might be in the SOD thread. Well this is what this weeks SID has to say:

AMC will revisit one of its most shocking plot twists ever this summer when one of its most beloved characters comes face to face with the daughter she thought was dead. Eighteen years ago Brooke English believed she lost her infant daughter Laura to a drunk driver; this summer Brooke will unknowingly encounter a very-much alive Laura when she meets a young woman named “Sydney” (Taylor Gildersleeve).

“It’s just a delicious story that’s been begging to be told for a while now”, raved All My Children Head writer Megan McTavish. “When I suggested it at a story meeting in January it went over really, really well”. (One AMC insider tells SID that since mid-2004 Megan has failed to inform anyone at the show or network of the time/place of her story meetings, and thus she is the only one in attendance at the meetings and accepts or vetoes her own stories: “It’s pretty entertaining to watch from the hall as she carries on conversations with a table surrounded by empty chairs”).

Those AMC viewers still watching the show in August will learn that the dastardly Dr. Greg Madden was working at the hospital when Laura was brought in following the accident. Madden declared Laura to be dead and then secretly gave her to another family.

“For Greg, the fact that Laura was not being properly watched and thus got hit by a car demonstrated that Brooke did not deserve to be a mother. And quite frankly, I agree. But Brooke will suffer, I promise. That’s the crux of this story: Laura making Brooke suffer for letting her get hit by that drunk driver".

When asked what she thought of being called a misogynist, McTavish got defensive: “I did buy the house across the street from Cameron Mathison, and yes I did buy a powerful telescope, but to suggest that makes me a peeping tom is ridiculous!”.

................................................Yawn.

If this doesn't signal the end of McTravesty's evil reign of terror I don't know what will. This chick needs to be thrown out of the ABC studios.

Moving this into the DTS: Spoiler Island

Ya know this is nuts. When Tom came to Brooke and told her what happened that was one powerful scene in AMC history. Everyone (the viewers) felt Tom's and Brooks pain and to bring her back now under these circumstances?? Brook was a loving mother.

But on the flip side at least Brook gets a storyline .

is this a joke? it has to be. that part about McTravish talkng to herself at meeting was pretty funny though. why would abc allow another Dr. Madden stolen abay/fetus that was thought to be dead storyline. gawd this show! <_<

That entire article reeks of fakeness, I'm sorry, but I just do not buy it one second.

Though the thing about her attending meetings on her own is hilarious and makes some sense. I always say that the best period of AMC in the last five years was from her return to mid-2004. Explains a lot.

Honestly, I think some (rightfully) ticked off fan read that the new character is tied to a long-running character and in a way to make people who are optimistic about it turn their backs, wrote this article and started posting it on the Internet.

There's no way that anybody would say any of the "quotes" in that article. But I have to say, if I lived next door to Cameron M, I'd have several high-powered telescopes!

Agnes is just obviously having some fun here. LOL I can't believe anyone could possibly think the article is legit... although if these things were true the puzzle is quickly coming together

OMG...that thread title almost killed me. LMAO. No seriously, I think my heart stopped as I waited for this to open.

LMFAO omg, that was great. You're my hero. But shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...don't give her any ideas. The part about her talking to the empty chairs , why don't I see that as a stretch?

    • That happens sometimes on cbs/paramount. Just refresh the page and it should work.
    • In a 1997 SOD article, Ehlers mentions that she was asked to return several times, but was surprised she wasn't asked to return for her "mother's" funeral.  This was when she returned for the 60th Anniversary event.

    • It seems obvious based on the initial material that Korte was going to take another foolish run at Jason and Carly a la 2021 and hoped Mulcahey being back would make it work, as he wrote such famous material for Steve, Sarah, etc. I think a couple good dialogue scenes came out of them together very early on, but there was never any denying that Steve and Laura have never had and will never have any romantic chemistry, plus the audience doesn't want it. So they pivoted to her with that useless dayplayer (Brennan) and now here they all are, spinning their wheels doing nothing of value on the show. I do think PM had planned to do much more with Jason's sons and that rivalry/friction, but once he was gone so was Jake. I've rarely seen any of the core mob 3 feel so totally extraneous and directionless on the canvas. Not that I mind. Anything that makes Jason easier to get rid of works for me.
    • I just edited the 1998 SOD Awards & Laura Wright won Best New Character for Cassie on GL. Also Philip & Harley won something of some name for them as a couple & when they finished saying their effusive thanks at the mic, Grant picked Beth up & literally threw her over his shoulder & walked backstage that way. I mean, it's great that Beth Ehlers is a good sport, right?

    • nothing. The story was put on the backburner while they focused on other stuff. I think thats one of the issues i have with the show in that it sometimes struggles with balance as stories will disappear for weeks and then reappear (Chelsea's throuple for example)
    • I HATED Infinity (I could care less about Kyle Sampson and his hanger ons and the dumb Lujack video, and Mindy and Kurt were strong armed into being a fave couple and married off way too soon (Jeva didnt get that big of a wedding.) I did like the Fishing Mystery (despite the changing of history..it was murky enough that it could be fudged) and the Cabin mystery started out good ..I thought Tony was hot and I liked Annabelle, it had supernatural elements but they did not overtake the story (i.e. Reva traveling through time..) and I love a gothic mystery.. however, it was bizarre that nosy Nola wasnt in the mix...she barely seemed interested that her sister in law was psychic, there may be ghosts in her brothers house, etc.  I don't know if there was a behind the scenes issue with Brown and Kobe, or if Long just wanst interested or felt tied up writing for Quola.  I would have had Quint blow up in the cabin instead of Hillary but..The big problem that the end result was...boring. Okay so there are black Spauldings..and they disappeared...so what now? Not only was J gross...(I can't believe the actor IS actually just as obnoxious as J) they made Chelle into an airhead horn dog going after her cousin. Yes, by adoption but still her cousin. I wondered why she was not calling Nola "Aunt" when she first arrived, and they barely acknowledge each other ( I would think Nola would glomb on to mothering her sister's daughter, especially with Stacy not in town, much to Ed's chagrin) but it was in service to...this??? Wait until Chele gets all horny for an angel...oyyyy! No one else in town reacted to Nadine's death,, cause Deas had to have his big dumb over the top reaction scene to Deenie's death. I can't imaging watching that scnene and thinking he was a good actor!

I know, I'm getting the sense they expected Beaty to stay if they were going the rehabilitation route with Abby. A few weeks ago, when Michelle was dressing sexy for her date with J, she let Abby try on a dress and Rick then taught her what dating was like, and she went in and kissed him. They were clearly setting up the Abby/Rick story, but then suddenly it has pivoted to Rick falling back in love with Annie and trying to convince her not to go to Josh since he and Reva are secretly meeting at the cabin (Annie is getting unhinged here). But with Rick focused on Annie again, it would have left room for Abby to work with Brent, had Beaty stayed (at least this is what I'm assuming based on what I'm seeing). Rick is also now in Blake's orbit - they both just got in a bar fight post-Ross/Amanda kissing and Annie rejecting Rick's advances. They're together and Blake is now coming onto Rick while they drink... uh oh.
    • She is truly in such a delusional state that it's hard to know what's true but I'm sure there are some easter eggs in there. I am very curious to see how they utilize Leslie now that everybody knows who she is. If they do go with a connection to Anita in someway that would definitely be interesting. Anita was the first and only person so far that Leslie seemed intimidated by.
