Dark Shadows (1991) - The Revival Series

Good evening, and Happy Halloween, 🎃👻

What did you all think of the 1991 "Dark Shadows" revival?

I was 14 when it was on, and our family would sit down to it over Little Caesar's and Crazy Bread. Self-admittingly it was a bit of a slow burn or the first four or five episodes, because I think Dan Curtis probably wanted to hit some of the beats of the more infamous story moments - Barnabas coming to town, romancing Victoria Winters as the reincarnation of his love from over 200-years ago, Dr. Julia trying to cure Barnabas of his vampirism. But the moment they started time travelling back to Barnabas origins, the period faction of the story was really engaging. I thought Lysette Antony was good as the evil witch-servant Angelique.

Did anyone else here enjoy it? Anyone have any idea where the story would have gone had it not been cancelled? 🧛🏻🦇🍷

I mean, it was ok but it felt a bit messy overall. I think they probably did try to hit too many beats in the first season. I get wanting to get to Barnabas as soon as possible, but the one advantage that the OG show had was that it took its time to establish itself, a luxury that I guess prime time soaps don't have (though arguably the most successful soaps in prime time took some time to establish themselves).
