AJ did star in True Blood after all.

A random thought occurred to me about some of the choices this writing team makes.

They’ve now established that Lia Whitmore died by suicide, and in Friday’s episode they used the S word repeatedly. We also know Barbara took her own life, which has been brought up several times, and I believe the same happened to someone connected to the Kenny storyline (maybe it was the coverup for Kenny disappearing).

Either way, I feel like these writers invoke the S word far too often, especially considering how carefully the subject is generally handled in the media because of concerns about suicide contagion and the potential impact on vulnerable people. There’s a reason news organizations have guidelines about how these events should be reported, including avoiding sensationalism or unnecessary repetition of details.

So hearing the word repeated so casually and so frequently on this show feels irresponsible to me. There are plenty of ways to address the subject without constantly hammering the audience with the terminology. To me, it’s yet another aspect of the writing that comes across as amateurish.
