True. But, you know, I knew even then that he would not be long for that show, lol. I definitely would've built up Rick and Emily's relationship first and waited 'til GA was available again to add Phillip to the mix.
Actually, @P.J. , I would've built that steeliness into her character. After all, Emily likely grew up without a father (or, like w/ her cousin Blake, she might've had a stepfather with whom she had a strained relationship). Plus, her maternal grandmother, Ellen, was an alcoholic, so there's a good chance that Janet eventually turned to the bottle as well, after everything Ed and Ken had put her through. Therefore, with her family history, it would make sense for Emily - who, in my projections, would be an FBI agent - to be emotionally remote at times and initially skeptical about romance and being part of a loving family.
