I like both Brandon Claybon and Mike Manning a lot but if ol' Marty Mart died I'll give you one guess who'd leave the show next, lol. There's a reason this show isn't called Beyond the Ex-Twunks.

I will say that Joey is overdue a comeuppance.

Oh, lord! Not Daniel. Most def a circle in a square peg situation. I was regularly watching then, and I was glad when he died.

I found it super weird that no one in the family objected to Martin leaving the hospital after Madison suggested he stay overnight for observation. “The primary’s tomorrow.” C’mon, man.

I can see why a politician would try to get back out in front of the cameras, scarred but unbowed in the face of a disaster. Martin would not be the first or last (I need not point to the last major American political figure who worked the cameras after an assassination attempt). I do think the family should've fought him on it.

Oh I get why he’d want to. But the family just blithely agreeing to it with zero pushback after he just freaked them all out by losing consciousness and collapsing so dramatically? Odd, even for a family with a sense of duty.

It almost makes sense if Martin wanted to demonstrate within the party that he's consolidated support from big donors. Although if the fundraiser was the night before(?) the primary, it was too late. Also, given what we can infer about Martin's politics, I don't think he would want to flaunt corporate dollars to the general public. It would have been a closed-door, invitation-only fundraiser. And it's safe to assume the "upstart" challenger (who should have been a character on the show - Izaiah?) would have been vehemently opposed to big money in politics, and called Martin out for it. Not that the show would have been able to go there on CBS now.

Or, if they had run with the dropped thread of Bill challenging Martin, Bill could have been old friends/frenemies with Victor.

This is a situation where I really wish they had established 2 core families on this show as opposed to just one (and I generally find the Duprees largely sanctimonious and unlikable at that).

I wouldn't mind a half hour show, and it would be much easier to keep up. Of course, that would depend on which half of the show (roughly) would be distilled to30 minutes...

I had stopped watching GH regularly by some point in the late '90s, but for me the pacing on BTG is no worse than what I remember by that point. And what little I saw of Guza's work in the aughts was mostly the splashy and/or violent events; I would tune out soon afterward because everything seemed to grind to a halt in short order. If nothing else, I like BTG's events better - not least because no core family members die (although the way they focused on that precarious chandelier and the inevitable crash, arguably it should have fallen on somebody).

As for BTG, for me, the first major issue with pacing/momentum (unless there was something else even earlier that I'm forgetting) was after the anniversary party and, specifically, when nothing came of the investigation into her attempt(s) on Laura's life and her violent tendencies just vanished. Wasn't Guza still around long after that? Bill and Hayley also were adrift for much of last year, again until the audience learned that she had been conning him the whole time. I feel like there is more dramatic tension baked into many of the stories now, just waiting to go. It seems like more of a conscious decision to stall some key things.

I really feel like Kat isn't going to be a match outside of her reluctantly wanting to be anyway and that's when Joey is going to ask Heather to find to find an organ donor or an organ that will match Eva.

He mentioned today that Izaiah is one of the few people he cares about and although he isn't crazy about Leslie he's definitely gonna do it for Izaiah.

I feel like this gives us the drama and then a solution.

Is Martin running unopposed? Did I somehow miss the name of his opponent? For some reason, I just cannot take his campaign seriously.

Martin has a primary opponent. I think a name has been mentioned, but don't quote me.

Quite a few people seem annoyed with Month 2's pacing/momentum. But I agree that the problem this year has been the show's ability to just stall out their stories with nothing to hold the audience's attention while stalling.
