I think Tika Sumpter at OLTL may have once claimed that either Ron Carlivati or Frank told her they weren't comfortable writing for Black people. That was an old anecdote going around anyway. Could be BS.
The fact remains that GH has never been great with Black representation but has a very loyal Black audience and yes, part of that loyalty is due to Sonny, etc. BITD. So they can and should do more. They have fertile options from their past families and popular characters. But their avoidance around Sprina was profound and the very closed-off foursome with Curtis, his rotating wives and their occasional lovers speaks for itself in terms of managing 'the Black story' in a closed loop. FV and RC's OLTL was similar near the end with just Destiny's family and their dayplayer love interests, or keeping many of the characters of color within the same sphere. But it was still more open to white characters and diverse than modern GH.
