Santa Barbara did have a lot of dropped stories. But there were so many, they all kind of meld together. In terms of specifics...I do recall, during the Capwell Dinner in 1991, when Gordon Thomson's Mason brought his mother, Pamela, to dinner, there was a big deal made about C.C. having stolen land from Rosa Andrade and her family. It seemed like the show was going to play that up, but it went nowhere. Pamela, in the midst of her insane rambling, also hinted at the father of Cassie Benedict (Lockridge), but that, too, went nowhere.
Then there were the blink and miss pairings, like Ric and Kelly. It seemed like the show was really hyping them up, but then it just disintegrated with Robert Barr blackmailing Ric, and Kelly was off in Robert's circle, which was good for her character, but kind of a cheat, because CG was great with Peter Love's Ric, too. Then again, I don't think there was a scene partner that Carrington Garland didn't spark with. Which is probably why her Kelly was sort of flaky for a while, since the writers seemed to like tossing her from Ric to Robert (and Quinn) to Craig and back again.
One last thing I remember was the whole thing with David and Angela Raymond and Angela's dead, never-seen sister, Marilyn. The show, when the characters were introduced, seem to hype that death up as some sinister mystery, but no one cared, especially since David wasn't well received (and meant - per the Dobsons in an interview - to be Julia's next big love interest, which didn't pan out!), while the audience did like Angela - out of David's orbit. The whole thing was reduced to some throwaway scene or line (been so long now) with Angela revealed to have been the driver, but nothing happened. The audience shrugged and moved on.
