-- Did I hear Sharon tell Noah "Your dad hasn't let us down yet"? In just the past month, Matt Clark overpowered dumb Nick in the car and turned limping Nick into a drug addict.

-- Billy Flynn and Michelle Stafford could barely keep it together today during those stupid scenes about giving Chancellor back to the Newmans. I'm actually glad to see them near breaking, because it's good to know they think this story is ridiculous, too.

The line from yesterday's show that made me laugh the most was Phyllis' "I'm the one sitting behind this desk in this office," implying that she's doing some sort of work. Then maybe "the secret" is now revealed to non-denizens of Genoa City--maybe, unlike companies in the rest of the world, the GC companies run themselves, allowing each company's CEO to take credit for leading the company and requisite financial compensation, all without lifting a finger. Maybe that's why all the Genoa City folks continually fight over those companies???

I will say this: the story concepts are there. The baseline work is done, but the power and emphasis behind it all is absolutely missing. Josh needs to bring in a co-head writer, allow them to take his ideas and sculpt them, and put some emotional stakes behind them.

Liberty City, I totally agree with your post. In fact, you've been able to articulate most of why I can be so dissatisfied with Y&R but, at the same time, have absolutely no plans to stop watching. The concepts are there like you said, and for me, they're rooted in past years of the show that I've watched on and off (starting in the mid-1970s, when I was in college; but taking breaks when my jobs didn't permit me to watch). But like you also said, Josh needs to "sculpt" his ideas, which I'm taking as "flesh them out" and, most important, needs to add the "emotional stakes" that underlie them, as well as what I think is a natural outgrowth, i.e., those "emotional stakes" that become associated with those ideas.

Exactly. The notes he is hitting are not the ones he should be, and that is disappointing. He does every once in a while and thankfully, since Sally McDonald became co-executive producer, I have noticed some shift in the writing, but it still needs significant improvement for the emotional stakes, as pointed out. He needs a co-head writer who can come in, take his ideas, and turn the notch up from a four to a six or a seven (which would be a nice starting point).

Well, you've put it out there. I really haven't been tracking who from any of the soaps pays attention to this and other discussion boards. And I realize that some soaps that are complained about on the boards have high ratings and/or see increases in their ratings. Despite this, I think soap folks reading and considering comments on these boards is a win-win situation for them--I think the only investment needed is a little bit of time, and the shows and ultimately the viewers could benefit. Yes, I realize maybe very little attention is paid to these types of posts, but they don't seem to hurt anything either.
