I thought it had to do with Jason returning but I could be wrong.

You're probably right, lol! And, in a way, that's part of my issue with how Drew's evolution has been handled. I'm not entirely clear on how he (and we) have gotten to this point. Was it one event, or a conflagration of events, or what? Alls I knows is, something's wrong when Yosemite Sam has more depth to him than Drew Cain does, lol.

I suppose the show could have given more thought to his change. Say Sam and Oscar's death is part of the reason he holds so tight to Scout and Willow. I don't know if we are still even supposed to acknowledge Oscar at this point though lol.

There are only four Oscars I acknowledge: Oscar Madison, Oscar Mayer, Oscar, the Academy Award; and Oscar the Grouch. All other Oscars do not exist in my world.

The first time I remember thinking Drew was an ass was when he dumped Carly flat and started hate sexing Nina. I am sure there were other things that happened, but he quickly pivoted to Willow and it spiraled from there. I thought it was a reaction to Jason being back, but honestly the show doesn't focus much on Jason vs. Drew these days.

I don't think the writers need to "redeem" Drew. They just need to keep him three-dimensional by reminding us how, in Drew's head, he's the hero, the white knight who's protecting his lady love from the corrupt and powerful Quartermaine family. But it might be a good idea for them to pull back from the scenes of Drew being hurtful towards children, like his vendetta against Danny or treatment of Scout, which aren't quite as well-motivated and do seem to tip him over into Snidely Whiplash territory, where he only exists to antagonize the show's "heroes."

Hahahah! I said a redeeming QUALITY. I didn't say I want him redeemed. He works exactly how he is a non-over-the-top, but powerful and relatable villain. And when he started to move in this direction, his only moment of niceness was that he loved his daughter. Now that he uses his daughter as a pawn, he's just a one-note cartoon. They went overboard for sure when they did that. And hurting the kids as well.

That, as they say, is the $64 question. Frankly, I don't think they can. Or, if they can, they're afraid it'll be too complex for their audience.

I might have to eat crow on this, but I would used to say these writers wouldn't be possible at it at all. But NOW I have the evolution of Willow in my face and I'm not so sure they can't think of a way to give him a redeeming quality to pull him back a litttle bit from the edge, but keep him a villain.

No, I definitely agree with everything you're saying. There's nothing WRONG with Drew's evolution. If anything, it's helped to define him as something other than a retcon twin (er, "twin"). I just think the show needs to provide more shading to his character, or else Drew's gonna wind up in the dustbin with Peter August and Dodge- er, Cyrus.

Not Dodge! lol.

But yes, that is the same thing I've been saying for a while up until Scout became more pawn than daughter. I like we are all on the same page though.

The evolution of Drew is fine with me. I wish he at least acted like he was a decent guy in public or something though. Even Sidwell pretends to be a good man in front of most people.

Of course, the show could add nuance and different shades for Drew, but my biggest gripe is Drew comes off as a clown half the time rather than a real villain. It's still by far the best story on the show though. If Drew at least put up an act and had a few real friends or defenders, he'd be more viable to me.

The sad thing is...that at first...Drew WAS putting on an act. Most definitely in front of Willow and Scout. But now that mask has come off. Perhaps it would have been best if the mask had been put back on when he was shot to keep him somewhat cunning. But alas.

If anything, I feel the writers have the wiggle room to give him nuances thanks to his meltdown on the witness stand. So...he's grown jealous of Michael? Really? Cuz he's treated like a Q more than him? More like an Alan son than him? Has he been this way the whole time? It's an interesting angle to explore. Moreso if they add on Michael's closeness to Sonny as a switch of the knife.

Let me say, however, that what I would do is figure out some way to put Drew and Jason in a love triangle with a female character who they both spark with. It could be Willow, it could be Britt, it could be someone entirely new, but I think it'd be classic soap opera, if it were done right.

And goodness knows SB and CM really do have superb hate chemistry. And both manage to play that hatred every time they share the screen today even when the scenes has nothing to do with them.

It did. He dropped her with the quickness cuz he already knew he would be second best as soon as Jason arrived. But I give that they (well, PM) grew Drew's change out gradually over a period of time...allowing him to go with his ambition. Even post-PM, they kept to that angle somewhat with Drew wearing a mask. Now that I think about it...when did he completely go 0 to 100? When he finally got into office?

Conflagration.

Yep. Cameron is hilariously fun doing the cartoon villainy tbh, but it could be better. Hence the Jake angle where he could be conflicted, or playing some beats with being wistful about Sam, Danny, etc.

as for Anna and Alexis, well, Nancy has gotten good material lately but the writing has no real investment in their lives in and of themselves. Finola not in quite some time, and it looks like Anna will next be brainwashed and a dupe again or something, which I'm not looking forward to. What she deserves is a love interest on par with her and she hasn't had one since coming back to the show, Finola's obvious adoration for JPS aside. Ian Buchanan is a wonderful actor but they wrote and played the resurrected Duke as a creaky old sadsack til he died. Instead of her simply serving plot functions I would rather see both her and Laura get strong new love interests. Alexis, the same but who knows what to do with her.

I agree with almost all of this. I do think Ian Buchanan is a good actor. But I totally loathed Duke in every form and every arc. Totally hated him with Anna every time.
Please give Anna and Alexis someone new!

I liked seeing Duke back on screen. But they definitely wasted him that time around.

I definitely would love to see Anna out of her having any emotions for Val myself. And I would loooove for Alexis to have someone new as well. I definitely have liked they tried a few times over the last few years.

OMG, OLIVIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YASSS!!! Good to see her acting like a Q and bluffing shooting Drew.

Yeah, I was looking forward to having time to see the cliffhanger of Trina/Kai going to Alexis. And I can't say that I'm disappointed. Alexis is just toooooo good at her job to put reasonable doubt in their head. Not that they will listen.

I continue to be in awe of this version of Willow. She really and truly does not love that man. LOL. And slowly, but surely it is coming off of her in waves and she is showing it. Katelyn Mc is running with it, and God bless her for it. THIS Willow I like. Hehe at Nina sloooowly getting a clue about it. And I continue to holler at how clueless Drew seems to it. So if she's actually getting off from shooting him, does that mean she can shoot him for real later on and not be tried again cuz that would be double jeopardy? I also wonder if this is setting up for her role in what she did to Sasha coming out.

Hmmmm...at the increase of airtime to Kristina and Jacinda.

I can't at all with Cody and Molly. I guess it's because of me being used to more adult dialogue when it comes to the 'yes/no' mess of a 'were you two together?' conversation from everything to AMC's INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE to even Ted and Shanice over on BTG now but I can't take them seriously. And of course, my personal elephant in the room TJ.

All things Q were a definite highlight. I live for every moment that I see Ned on screen these days. And I am surprised that he is just now getting around to telling everyone how he winded up having a heart attack. I do wonder if this is setting up a story for Ned...which I don't mind. And I loved that Tracy immediately realized that Martin was behind Alexis knowing about her and Michael's chat. And Olivia with the shotgun...howled. She really has come into her own in the house. And I was happy to see Yuri as well.

Drew continues to look stupid. Though I do wonder how he is going to feel once he realizes Willow is playing him for a fool.

And that coda with Alexis and Wiley...good.

He'll be fine after he pushes an elderly woman down some stairs in her wheelchair and feeds a blind man some dog food after telling him it's beef stew.

Well, I can't say that I hate that cliffhanger with Ava and Val. And it goes without saying that I want Anna to shoot Pascal so bad. So while I doubt it's happening this week, I do hope it happens in the future.

I admit that the tension leading up to Willow's verdict is superb. I was just wondering about Diane (did Carolyn Hinsey have surgery? Well, I hope she gets better soon) so good to see her. And Alexis being behind herself and still giving a good closing statement is typical Alexis.

So the Marco I liked before I stopped watching regularly is just gone gone, huh? Cuz that scene with him and Britt did him no favors. Though Britt being on Wyndermere probably means she's the one that will find Anna hopefully.

Thank you, Val!!! I don't like his alliance, but he said what I've been saying to Carly. So she failed to get a bug into Brennan's office. AND...??? When has a setback ever stopped Carly? Which naturally made me go...why are the writers writing Carly so weak? Carly in scheme mode is many things, but never that.

Did I hear right? Now Sidwell wants to see Drew as expendable? The writers are really trying to eclipse Drew's villainy, aren't they? You know...we can have two villains (and one villainess in Ava) at the same time pushing story?

Good episode.

lol. I have always said that CM does play Drew at times as being more obsessed with Willow than in love with her so I feel like he will go over the edge when he does find out. But what means...writing-wise...is still a curiosity to me.

Even though Willow has gotten better, I still don't understand why anyone would be obsessed with her and/or her dumb kids. She doesn't even seem fun to be around lol. I know Drew is one notch above Satan, but CM and his six pack can still get it. Not sure why he is wasting so much time on Willow of all people. I reserve the right to change my mind if we find out she was faking cancer though.

lol at the fake cancer.

We know about Willow and her hero worship and past history. And Drew...a tale as old as time...the older man being idolized by someone younger. And given the shift in his character, that ego definitely loves to be stroke now.

And along with that six pack, don't forget that bubble. ;) He could totally get it from this quarter.

Lol! I don't see Willow's appeal at all. She has Dora the Explorer Hair! And only whines about her kids all day. But I am not a 50 year old straight man in the midst of a mid life crisis breakdown. I just don't know how that girl has that many men interested. She seems so exhausting.
