Why did John dislike Maggie?

I don't really know. It was random. It was when the show first cast KL's Brady and John was being kind of a dick to everyone. He decided she was a gossipy busybody and was mean to her for a year or two. He helped her with the Konstatin situation right before Drake got ill, so I assume they actually liked one another in the end. Personally, I didn't think Maggie/John ever had a deep friendship, but I really am not much of a Maggie fan so I may have forgot some things.

It doesn’t really matter Suzanne and Drake worked together for 40 years even if they barely shared scenes and Maggie absolutely should have been at the funeral especially when Bo and Hope came back to Salem Did we even see any scenes of Bo or Hope with Maggie

Maggie and Sarah said they were at the funeral. We just didn't see them. They both shared their sadness on screen about John's death. It didn't bother me that Maggie didn't appear on air at the funeral.

I don't think Bo/Hope shared scenes with Maggie. Someone can correct me if I am wrong though. Are Bo/Hope close with Maggie? Lol. None of these relationships with Maggie scream of importance. She's closer to many more people on the canvas.

I am probably framing my wording wrong. I don't think everyone hates Maggie or anything. I just associate Maggie as being Marlena's friend not John's. And Bo/Hope as family to her, but not anywhere the top of the list of people to share scenes with in a limited return.

by the way it happens people in work environments dont always get along

True, but acting (on a daytime drama) isn't like working at Hertz. If you or I are having issues with one or more of our colleagues, and we are in a position where we could limit our day-to-day interactions with them or avoid them entirely, we do so, if only because we know our paychecks are on the line. But if you're an actor, and you're getting paid to play opposite someone you dislike personally, then it's your duty to leave the hostilities off the set or stage and play the scene and the relationship with that other actor as written.

Who knows? Maybe you're right, and maybe the show just should avoid placing DH and SR in scenes together from here on out. (ATWT did that for years after Colleen Zenk and Jacqueline Schulz reportedly had had some kind of falling out, even though their characters (Barbara Ryan and Dee Stewart, respectively) were supposed to be close friends). Again, though, Marlena and Maggie have shared decades of close friendship on-screen, so it's weird to go from all that to where we are today: long stretches with zero interaction (even though it would make sense for them to confide in each other routinely about their separate dramas) punctuated by scenes like the ones we saw the other day, where the tension between the two is palpable and doesn't make sense, given the nature of their relationship.

This question goes to anyone who's a longtime Y&R fan: in the past, Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) talked about how Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) did not speak to her for years, even though Cooper herself had no idea why; and how their one-sided feud ended one day as mysteriously as it had begun. (IIRC, when Cooper broached the subject, Scott just kind of waved her off, like, "Oh, that's old news." Whatever, Melody, lol). Was the tension between the actors ever present on-screen? Remember, Kay took Nikki under her wing, so I imagine they had to share at least SOME screen time.

Poor Drake. Even though he certainly got his share of the spotlight on DAYS, the show absolutely put him and John through the wringer, forcing him to make work a lot of material that, IMO, was crap.

Lol! Let's start the Deidre Hall smear campaign now. She carried the show for years and years.

Suzanne did not. She got lucky for a few years when Dee and Drake got fired and they gave her kids and grandkids that are of no importance.

John and Maggie weren't even close. In fact he strongly disliked her for awhile so why would I need her input on his death when there are 20 characters on the show that care more?

Nah, not a smear campaign at all. I think she deserves the Emmy for the scenes involving John's death.

You are absolutely right that Deidre carried the show for decades. There's no denying that.

There's also no denying that she has had, and continues to have, problems with some of her colleagues and she is not good at covering her disdain for them when onscreen.

ICAM! I mean, one of the conditions she had for returning in '91 was that Wayne Northrop be allowed to return as well, even though Drake was still playing Roman at that point. What does THAT say about Dee and Drake's relationship back then, lol?

Ironically, there's only one actor whom I've seen Deidre Hall say even slightly negative things about to the press, and that was Tom Hallick (ex-Maxwell Hathaway; ex-Brad Elliot, Y&R). Otherwise, if she isn't gushing about 'em, she just doesn't mention 'em at all, lol.

I think that's a really fair assessment.

I mean.....Drake wasn't the best actor, but was loyal and made a lot of things work with natural charm and charisma. I don't feel bad for him or John as a character, but I do respect him a lot.

Exactly.

The thing is, I wouldn't necessarily say Deidre carried DAYS for decades. Yes, she has carried it since the first JER era. In her original run, however, when the writing so much better for her and she had an actual character to play, I don't think she carried the show, even though she and WN/Roman were a very popular duo. If anyone carried DAYS back then, it was KA and PR/Bo and Hope, followed by SN and MBE/Patch and Kayla.

I would disagree. I think it was more of an ensemble, but Marlena was a key player.

Hope/Bo and Steve/Kayla had a bunch of absences, leaves, bad stories while I think Marlena and John/Roman kept things moving even with Deidre leaving for 5 years. Plus, she and John (and Kristen) get credit for most everything in the 90's where Patch and Kayla were gone and JER hated Bo/Hope.

But everyone has a different take and I prefer Marlena to pretty much any other heroine not named Brenda.
