The way JG writes is basically:

JG sees some old movie and decides he wants to do a story where Nikki is kidnapped. He asks the Y&R historian what villains would have a grudge against Nikki and is told Eve Howard. He's down for it until he's told Eve is dead... no problem, he'll give her a sister, how about Colleen Zenk? And then when he hears Victoria was married to Eve's son and they had a DEAD BABY, he's like, jackpot...

A decision is made to hire Trevor St. John. He wants to make him some kind of sarcastic business tycoon with strong ties to the canvas, so they choose to make him Tucker McCall, despite the totally wrong age and vibe.

A decision is made to hire Billy Flynn. He decides he'll be a Gatsby type character with a great love and he's become a crypto bro to win her back and also something with AI would be good because business. So he asks around what male characters are there who used to be on the show whose love interest is still on canvas, and they decide it will be Cane trying to win Lily back, and then try to figure out a static set where everyone can convene (contract cast only with the recurring characters taking a late train in).

A decision is made to hire Roger Howarth and JG decides he will be part of a noir storyline (whatever that means). He has to be a villain and it has to be big. It would be great if it somehow involved rape. So someone reads wikipedia and explains to him there was this guy Matt Clark who raped Sharon, actually tried to rape her a bunch of times, and then died... ok, perfect! We'll bring Noah back and have this big splashy car accident but to make it more mysterious, we won't show it, and then we'll have him all bandaged, and Sharon can read him books and stuff (more literary references to show how smart he is), and we can have Claire randomly in LA to meet up with Nick and Sharon, and Holden will randomly know these people... we'll add another soap actress to show how big this is...

Yup. He’s writing his own show at this point. Absolutely zero regard for these characters or their true history.

Bringing in a new relative for Sharon and tying that to the Noah story would have made for great drama. The sky is the limit in terms of writing the backstory behind who Sharon’s family is and what they’re involved in.. but hey we couldn’t possibly expect the HEAD WRITER of the #1 daytime drama to have an imagination could we?

Given that people change and tastes change, Matt Clarke is the least likely guy to hang out at a bar in East Hollywood.  He was a jock who wore his letterman jacket everywhere but the Hawaiian Hula Bash.  Not, a craft beer type with creative facial hair and copious accessories.  Maybe that's a good cover, but it doesn't feel right for a guy who peaked in high school in a small town in the Midwest.  I'd bet my hat, if Matt Clarke survived, he's selling Tesla Cyber Trucks in Nevada (only mild offense intended).

On paper it's not a bad sketch for a new character, but making it the wildly polarizing and overexposed Cane, with Lily and all the other nonsense (including the train) it's terrible.

Trevor had actually aged dramatically enough to be semi-plausible as Tucker, but he got bored very quickly (as he often does), played against everything and the story and writing were also quite bad.

I don't think that even... therapists know their patients as well as you know how this man's mind works!  ❤️

That's frightening.  The one about Aunt Jordan is basically paraphrasing one of his interviews.

Oh, and he also got all excited when he learned Ashley used to be crazy in the 80s so wrote the DID story for her (totally different from the mental health problems she had). That culminated in another fake remote in France.

Don't make me start watching this show just for the trainwreck that it is. 😂

The obvious story would've been to explore Sharon's father. I don't think it's ever been addressed, and that could lead to Sharon having new family, which is where Tamara and Roger could've been brought in.

But whatever. I am just a poster on soap forum. What do I know...

You know a lot. ;) Because that idea (and Sharon's new family by Tamara and Roger being bad) would have worked.

This mess? Not so much.

Great assessment!

Don’t forget that JG then transcribes all of the above through some knock off version of Chat GPT.

Now WTF did Nick keep the tube in his hand? Rofl I didn't know Nick ever came off this clueless. Joshua Morrow has the perfect look to play a character that would be easy to set up like that. Of course Austin Peck still holds the crown for the "Huh, what?" look and style.
