I can't remember, have we seen Wanda before?  Seems like she would have made more sense as Rowena at Vernon/Anita's home.

Nicole has a new assistant?

It seemed like her maid to me, but I could be wrong.

  • Oh! Nicole has house staff, I see! Good for her! Wanda seems to run a good shift at the Richardson household.
  • Nathan, you need to shut your mouth. Both you and Samantha were dumb to start getting it on on the living room couch. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
  • Nicole is not having any of Carlton's bullshït. He is about to be out before he was even barely in.
  • I appreciate how hard Dani is keeping on Vanessa's neck and not backing down with her concern for her involvement with Joey.
  • Oops... not Elon wanting Marcel out of the picture, via the hands of Joey.
  • Not Joey being the best sex Vanessa has ever had. WHEWWWWEEEEE... and not the high tipper comment!
  • Uh-oh... Jeoy wants Jacob to be his next person of interest. Run, Elon. You are setting your son up for a world of trouble.
  • Well, there we have it: Nicole and Carlton are done before they really even began.
  • OMG... give me those buffalo wings NEOW!! They look bomb AF!!
  • Okay, so the scenes with Bradley and Martin are cute. It is nice to see them on the same page, finally.
  • Good on Tyrell for giving Samantha a dose of reality about Nathan. Good for him. But shame on her for manipulating Tyrell when his intentions were pure and heartfelt. Shame.
  • That was a respectable breakup. Sad, but understandable.

Notes:

  • Not two consecutive breakdowns by the writer2. Spare me the pain. Please.
  • Once again, David Lami Friebe's (Izaiah) bobblehead and weaving need to stop. It is distracting and nauseating at this point.
  • Not a Real World mention. Nice callback line for Mike Manning (Bradley).

He’s not bad at all. He’s actually quite good. I’d love for him to join BTG if Days has no use for him.

Yeah, I think Lamon Archey is a good actor, and he's gorgeous. Criticizing him is laughable.

I've asked before and you won't respond, but I'll ask again. What's wrong with Jamey's breakdowns?

I can't answer the question directly.  But I am aware Jamey is a huge fan of camp, comedy, over the top storylines, and over the top characters. Plus, I believe he prefers very short chopped-up scenes, rather than longer full scenes.  So that's enough to turn off  a lot of long-term soap fans.   On the other hand, Jamey has also studied soaps most of his life, and is a big fan of writers such as Bill Bell, Harding Lemay, and Agnes Nixon. And Jamey loves the genre.

I think his biggest problem is, he has been influenced too much by Ron Carlivati. Jamey idolized Carlivati. (as a fan), and then worked with him for several years. So his first instinct seems to be to "write like Ron".  Although I don't know Jamey personally, I feel he would comply with the directives of TPTB to write in a style that fits the vision of a particular show. But he would need to be directed to do so, otherwise he would likely write in the way he feels is best.   I am personally supportive of Jamey, but I also understand his faults.

I'm wayyyy on the other side of fence.

And the fact that Jamey seems to be writing better at BTG than he ever did at Days is, honestly, making me hate him even more than I already do. Because it just proves that that rushed, lazy, poorly written garbage that we got at Days from him was even more unnecessary than it already was.

Ron was bad enough on his own when he let his worst qualities write the show for him. Jamey was Ron at absolute worst times 10.

That's a Frank Valentini thing, not Ron Carlivati (though RC may or may not now prefer it, who knows). I don't think we can ascribe that interest to Jamey on a whim just because he stans Ron. I do think his tastes are quite similar to Carlivati's, but I have yet to be able to lay specific blame on any of his breakdowns. Nor am I very familiar with his Days work.

I understand the rap on Jamey Giddens by his detractors. I know what he's been accused of, and I personally agree with enough of those criticisms to make me wary of him.

However, that doesn't answer my question about his breakdowns on BTG. If he's going to be criticized, make clear what you're criticizing. A drive-by bashing the guy -- without even one example -- is not the way to go.

Did we get camp, comedy, or over-the-top storylines yesterdy or today? Did we get very short, chopped-up scenes? I didn't see any of that.

I haven't yet watched today's show, but I did complain a lot about yesterday's show regarding the execution of the plot. My problem was much more about the dialogue throughout the show rather than the scenes themselves.

Well, as I said in my post -- I was not directly answering your question.  I was just speculating on why some fans might dislike Jamey.  Plus, I am not one of the posters who has been bashing him.  And again, as I said -- although I dislike some of Jamey's writing preferences, I still support the guy.  I will never bash Jamey.

I realize the purpose of your post, and I didn't read it as a criticism of Jamey. I appreciate the points you made.

-- Vanessa said Golden Corral Casino Mobster Joey is the best sex she ever had???

     GAG ME.

This woman (who is for the streets) buried her husband 2 weeks ago and already she's         talking about slippery and slimy sex with an old man? She's trash.

-- Why are Joey and Elon discussing mob business with the door open to that dusty and pathetic casino back room?

-- I understand why Eva has a hard time distancing herself from her mother. Today, though, she again made a speech (to Izaiah) about Leslie and how she rejects all of that and wants to be better. The problem is (so far, at least) that Eva continually enables and defends Leslie, never holding her accountable for anything.

I find a lot of the criticism that comes his way is unjustified and based on past things like his reputation at Daytime Confidential. I agree some of his Days work wasn't great but he had a HW and had to fit their vision. When he had the opportunity to write stuff like Bo and Hope's reunion or Doug's death, the material was excellent.

I also feel like his work on Ambitions was excellent, along side the wonderful Michele Val Jean and it makes sense to have him here. I think his breakdowns for BTG have been great. There haven't been any short or choppy scenes and I think he's done a good job of bringing a level of depth like the discussion of how Black women are more at risk from lymphedema in yesterday's episode. That is a meaningful thing to add to a breakdown and something that only a Black writer would've caught.

So far I'd say his episodes have been very memorable. I especially like when his breakdown is paired with Danielle Paige or Jazmen. Those are probably my three favorite writers on the staff.

Overall, I have no complaints about any of the changes to the writing staff. I think the show has continued to get better and until I see signs of the opposite, I'm pretty happy with the writing. I just wish they had a better EP and set designer.

Couldn't agree more. I'll dive into my own analysis as soon as I have more time... but overall the show has been improving and getting more and more watchable and enjoyable the past few weeks. With moments of brilliance scattered thorough.

I'm so happy I'm not the only one who thinks this. Trash is the perfect description. And most of the times... so one-note, one trick pony type of character. I'm so OVER her vagina.

I have to ask, are we supposed to root for Vanessa? Because as it stands she disgusts me.
