The last time the show made a serious attempt to challenge that status quo they ran the HW out of town on a rail, so I don't see it happening again any time soon.

And even that had a great big out clause, which tells you how terrified the show is.

-- Carly is disgusting in her treatment of Lucas. I am so sick of characters ignoring who Sonny is.

-- Katelyn MacMullen was once again outstanding as Willow in those scenes with Nina.

Loved the cliffhanger!  Willow is going to make Drew pay.😂 She's full on nuts!!

Lucas and Marco were hot in bed yesterday.

Yeah... this sh*t's not sustainable anymore.

Would GH actually be put in danger of cancellation or whatever, if Mo was fired and Sonny was killed off for good?

GH is not in danger of being canceled or being whatever'd.  But, they wouldn't fire him. They would convince him .... that he wants to retire & .... concentrate on & prioritize SOM. And, he does want that but ... I think its level of monetization is a sticking point. So, we all need to talk it up & repost about it to get its numbers up so Mo will agree & Frank can call Vanessa ... and they can write a nice ....  final bow or something before Sonny & Brenda ride off into the non-extraditable sunset. Yesterday GH was #4 on Hulu's Top 15, #3 earlier in the week. They do best early in the week & worst on the weekend. OH, yeah, we all need to watch SOM every Sunday, too!!! This supporting the RETIRE MO effort is gonna be hard work. Are we up to the task?

We're meant to see Marco as bad and Sonny as in the right, I assume.

The key factor here is the same as so many stories like this where a character goes against Sonny. They clearly do not view Marco as a villain, just rash and naive. Unless they are a total black hat like Sidwell or Cyrus (both of whom still get weak attempts at pathos so FV can keep the actors as long as possible), the angle is always the same with this storyline: This poor fool is misled, they are lashing out/have bad information and are allying themselves with the wrong people, etc. Marco blames Sonny for his mother's death and couldn't listen to reason, and now he will ally himself with his criminal father and Go Too Far because he didn't listen after being abducted and held prisoner at gunpoint. Only when it all goes wrong will they learn what a fool they were to lash out at Sonny, Jason, Carly, etc. and apologize.

The show has done this story so many times, particularly in the last decade, and this is among the lamest of them all. Even Elizabeth Hendrickson's embarrassing ADA character had a variant of it.

I think @carolineg and I have both said we think GH would take a hit if Mo was fired. I think it is probably too dangerous to do in the current ratings environment, otherwise I'd do it easily. Which is why instead we both so often invoke The Brenda Solution, where they are married off and VM/Brenda then takes up the bulk of their story. That keeps Sonny around but neutralizes a lot of this tired bullshít. He can still scheme and glower and threaten people but he can do it in a more conventional, classically Victor Newman-esque way, where the power and threat is implicit because of his history. You can toy with the tease of 'oh, will Sonny go back to his old ways?' but keep it in check, so we're not seeing situations like this crazy shít with Marco and Lucas happen every few weeks while half the canvas trips over themselves justifying his latest thug behavior. It is just so old and tired, everything about the current mob/crime setup feels like beyond an afterthought, and Maurice seems barely awake.

Yup. I think killing off/firing Mo/ Sonny is way too risky. The Brenda solution is ideal but I don't think it's anything anyone is thinking about.  We are just going to be in a holding pattern until the show decides to do something.  I still maintain Mo has a strong wacky FB, Twitter, and offline following.

Trust me, as much as I want it and advocate for it, I am so aware it would likely cause a huge decline for the canvas and the audience, especially with how immersed the character of Sonny has [unfortunately] become on General Hospital.

The show wants us to be grateful the main character of the show didn’t murder someone. It’s like they go out of their way to remind me why I stopped watching for many years.

I would quit again but I literally enjoy every story on the show that doesn’t super involve Sonny. He’s in the background of some of those stories but he’s not the focus which is where I can tolerate him. I’m honestly shocked he hasn’t murdered Jason’s other brother Drew at this point but it seems the writers realize the Drew/Michael/Willow story is pretty damn good and still has legs as this week has shown.

I've made my disgust with Sonny as a character and Mo as an actor clear, and then some.

Still, I agree the show would be crazy to kill him off. That would be a self-inflicted wound that would haunt them.

The best way to handle it, then, is Brenda. It also allows you to finally play new and unique situations with him married off, settled and doing other things outside the mob life while still remaining a quote-unquote 'power player', but working at whatever speed Mo can actually manage vs. y'know, whatever this is. I thought he was lazy ten or fifteen years ago but Maurice in 2010 is like thespian Adam Driver by comparison. And meanwhile VM carries most of it by herself. And yeah, they'd get some viewers back for Sonny + Brenda 4ever.

Right this minute GH is #1 on Hulu's Top 15! Willow & Nina & not knowing what is gonna happen next week is driving this soap right to the very top!!!

Maybe.  But not until after she marries him.  It feels like she is going to go through with the wedding and then take it from there.  She seems to think that the marriage to Drew is her best shot at getting the kids back...even if she now realizes that he is the whole reason she lost them in the first place.

Yes, 2010 Mo was bad and searching for lines still, but miles better than what's happening now.   Plus, even with VM's "unique" 2010 acting choices like the cackle, she still worked well with him.  And honestly, I know Kelly T. is Steve's savior these days, but Vanessa and Steve work well together too.

I also think Mo would be okay taking a backseat to Vanessa.  He seems to really like her and respect her as an actress and Brenda as a character.   I think he'd be comfortable letting her take the lead in story.

I wonder how many viewers left would even care about Sonny/Brenda.  There used to be so many messageboards, fansites, and groups dedicated to them that have mostly disbanded because it's been so long.  Most fans have moved on-except me lol.
