The highest rated soap seemingly has the smallest budget.

Days has more sets and movement than Y&R and they haven’t had a budget in YEARS. Also their business stories bother me significantly less than Y&R as they actually mention what their companies do from time to time and it doesn’t eat the show.

I wouldn't go that far.

No question that DAYS has the lowest budget of all the soaps. The only way to overcome that is with good writing, which we are getting on DAYS as of late.

More movement? I have to agree. DAYS just feels like it has more energy and actual physical movement among the characters. Scene after scene on Y&R is with two characters sitting at a restaurant table or on a couch having a conversation. It's static -- and it's lazy.

That’s exactly it. Entire episodes are just two people sitting in a restaurant yammering on about CEO’s or getting coffee in the middle of the night at the always empty Crimson Lights.

Where did I say anything that’s wrong?

I wouldn't say Y&R has the smallest budget, nor would I say DAYS has more sets. Y&R has been adding more sets⏤which is great, given their lack of an overnight set crew⏤and they're not the same set re-dressed as something else (like DAYS historically has been doing for years).

They've added Billy's house. But we don't see 6 or seven sets per episode. Instead it's CL,GCAC,Society and Jazz Lounge everyday and if we're lucky a home or office set.

So many characters don't have a home or workplace.

And I think they could be clever and use a basic set as an office for different characters.

eg hide a window with a bookcase, move a new desk to a different position, new furniture, artwork etc . But I guess that requires a crew and that isn't in the budget.

Again, as explained multiple times, they didn't have an overnight set crew post-COVID, so it was easier to keep up certain sets permanently, and those were the community lots. And the fact we got the return of the O.G. Newman Ranch set (albeit updated), the Abbott remodel and yes, even Billy's new home set, is an amazing accomplishment. And we've seen other sets updated over time, from Crimson Lights to Sharon's cottage and the return of the tack house (with some structural updates). Comparing 2020/2021 versus now is a major upgrade in sets and set uses. Whereas, DAYS is pretty much still in the same predicament it's been in for years, and it's dire.

Using community sets is easy; no offence, but you're the one complaining about wanting more community sets on Beyond the Gates, whereas The Young and the Restless has plenty: Crimson Lights, the original Genoa City Athletic Club (which returned, replacing the Grand Phoenix, which everyone bitched and complained about wanting the GCAC back instead), Society, the Jazz Lounge (via the GCAC) and even Chancellor Park.

What does DAYS have? A smaller Horton Town Square, the Brady Pub and what... the poorly-lit bar?

And not a single home set on Y&R is repeated; meanwhile, Marlena and Abe have the same "penthouse" set (which is a living room with a fireplace and a hallway that leads nowhere). Kayla and Marlena appear to have the same office set, and it's then re-used in altered form for Jada's office at the Salem PD. The Kiriakis mansion is reduced to a dated shoebox; I'm honestly surprised we somehow got a remodeled DiMera mansion (and were taken out of their own dated shoebox set). You've got people living in the Salem Inn (in repeated hotel rooms, with potential slight differences).

The comparison between DAYS versus Y&R is comical. Not to mention, judging from recent episodes, Y&R now has a JIB, whereas it took DAYS about a year into their run on Peacock to [finally] get their cameras/production value updated. And while it's miles better than it was before, it's still not one hundred percent. It's very obvious which soap has a budget, and DAYS is not it.

And I've been watching DAYS lately... we get maybe three or four sets. That's about it. So that, compared to what you call "six or seven" for Y&R... it shows.

Not to mention, the quality of the sets is not even a comparison, either. Both the new Newman Ranch and the Abbott remodel look ten times more quality in comparison to the DiMera mansion remodel.

Days actually has a hospital and police station. You get sick and get treatment off camera on Y&R. Chance solves his cases at Crimson lights. You also ignored there’s the Bistro, the newspaper, Titan, DiMera. Complaining about the Salem Inn when multiple people on Y&R regularly just used the same GCAC hotel rooms. But you have your opinion and I have mine. I’m going to agree to disagree and move on as you tend to get condescending when trying to prove a point.

Exactly this. I don't watch Days but on Y&R the lack of sets is directly cutting off story possibilities.

I think it shows a lack of imagination from Griffith and the people calling the shots. Yes, there are budgetary and physical limitations, but Griffith and team would rather make the laziest and quickest decisions than put a little more effort into the set situation.

That said, B&B also seems to be in a similar set predicament.

I know the plans for Y&R and B&B to move to a new studio were put on hold, but maybe a bigger space would remove some of these restrictions and give them more set variety. Someone should definitely revisit those plans.

Yes I think BTG needs another meeting place that bridges Orphey's and the Country Club.

But otherwise BTG offers a hospital set, a police station and homes for several characters.

The set situation may be better than 2021 but that doesn't mean much today.

And calling the changes at CL and Sharon's cottage updates is  a stretch.

Having characters visit several restaurants in one day or even return to the same one in the same day is ridiculous. And then to focus the show around business makes it even more laughable as there are few offices and staff in evidence.

I don't know what the answer is unless someone is prepared to shell out a few bucks.

As I said before having more characters work at Jabot, Newman or Winters would help. I quite liked that business set Devon had. We could see Devon, Abby,Lily, Nate and whoever else could work there in an actual business setting.

Ooo @TaoboiI will say I just watched Amanda give it to Abby and I loved it. Honestly just made me miss Hilary more. I will never understand or get over that decision to kill her off.

Also call me crazy but I could definitely see the Damian actor playing NuTed on BTG. Very much still enjoying the Lily attraction.

That was Mal Young right?

He thought a tragic death was a better option than crafting a story where Hilary leaves town.

Was it a case of punishing someone who wants to leave?

And then they have to jump through hoops to bring the actress back.

I believe it was. And this is actually one of the cases where I wouldn’t mind some dumb soap opera bringing back from the dead. They gave Mishael, Amanda, with all of Hilary’s connections but none of the personality except for fleeting moments.

Hilary absolutely should’ve just left town. They decided to kill her and the baby. Just baffling,

It was nice seeing Victorias house and I see it’s been remodelled. I’m sure this happened awhile ago but since I tuned out from the show for so long I am only noticing it now. Looks beautiful though!

Also, Billy and Sally gross me out so much. I don’t know what it is I hate so much about them. They give me the ick. Definitely a mismatch. I don’t buy that these people would be attracted to eachother in real life much less have a relationship..
