Coming into June and...

TRASH. Or as I like to say for moments like this...HUNNI, WHAT IS THIS?

Outside of seeing Traci come home...and then...Ashley...not a darn thing is going on. So they are clearing stalling now, aren't they? It really hit me during the Phyllis/Daniel scenes. It was feeling like a B&B scene where two characters have the same repetitive conversation. And I have not seen Phyllis/Daniel scenes in that light lately so yeeeeah NOPE.

I did like the touch of Traci arrived outside of the Abbott mansion door and taking a breath and looking around. Very aftereffects of Martin. And I liked her and Diane having their conversation about Martin. I wished JG had allowed Traci to stay in town to deal with her feelings about Martin so at least we are getting some follow-up on that.

And same with Ashley and her talk with Jack. I will take Eileen Davidson anyway I can get her. Dare I say...will she be around for the Dumas reveal?

Outside of...

Kyle, Claire, and Harrison in a park IS NOT a storyline.

Sharon having to use the phrases (and in text) with Nick dinner as friends IS NOT a storyline.

Giggly Heffa giggly-heffa-ing around town IS NOT a storyline.

With Damian MIA and my love of Eileen Davidson...I might just go on break until the Dumas reveal if this is how we are starting June.

-- The fashions are at least something to talk about, because we're definitely not getting any story. I mean, this stuff is dreadful.

-- I do like how they're dressing Nikki. Its hugely different from before, but I'll take it.

-- At least she doesn't look like Ashley, who's dressed like a clinically-depressed Cruella DeVille.

-- Nick without a jacket just looks odd.

-- I see Mark Grossman again gained about 15 lbs. when he was away on vacation. The sharp cheekbones are gone and the double chin is back. Hate to be mean, but I hope he loses the weight.

-- All that talk about all Claire did to plan that "party." Excuse me? There's nothing go on, and outside of some tacky Happy Birthday signage and tablecloths from Kohls, I don't know what they're talking about.

Sooo Nick is inviting Sharon to France for this Dumas party thing. The same place they reconnected years ago during the Shick/Phick years. I wonder if it’s going to be on location? I’m going to assume not. I’m sure Y&R doesn’t have that kind of budget anymore.

I'm anticipating most of the cast at the Nice location for a few weeks a la the Tuscan villa for Victoria and Ashland's wedding.

I don't know why they bother. I'd rather see the money going into more regular home/office sets.

This party has been a bust. No secrets revealed, break ups  etc. Ugly decorations and I'm going to slam the costuming again.

Just the guests heaping praise on  Nikki  like she's achieved some magnificent milestone rather than just getting a year older.

-- What a stupid party. Devon and Abby leave while Victor goes upstairs to the GCAC bar and talks with Kyle. Then we see Jack giving Nikki ANOTHER birthday toast as if the party has just begun. Huh???

-- This party perfectly encapsulates sweeps month for this show: lame, deadly, boring af.

-- Once again, Cole gets really sick and no one insists on an ambulance or the ER. They really want him dead, don't they? Instead we hear multiple characters say "Gee, I hope Victoria doesn't catch it." Cole will be dead before Dumas.

-- Kyle is really offering to make a contract with Victor so he can continue to see Claire? Jesus Wept.

-- And then the shoe ends with Victor praising Nikki for softening his heart over the years -- after we've seen him treat Kyle, Michael, and Jack like sh_it for days.

Agree with all of this.

They use stuff like the redecoration and the party as major events and nothing comes of it.

Kyle/Claire is of no interest to me because Kyle has already been deeply in love with Lola and summer so his devotion to Claire is more of the same.

And Claire is a character that came from a nonsense rewrite and now is presented as Little Miss Innocent, her dark past swept away. That charm bracelet of Nikki's must weigh a ton. The list of grandchildren seemed endless. The thing is, most of them are offscreen and ignored. Victoria seems like a neglectful parent.

Was Dylan mentioned? Another dumb rewrite character.

Not only is the show hampered by so many vet charcters, TPTB don't seem interested in venturing into new areas with them. Cole was brought by but there hasn't been any dramatic story that could impact on Victoria? What had he been doing all those years?

So many characters w/o stories talking about businesses we never see.

There's nothing about the Kyle/Claire pairing that makes me say "Damn, I really want them together."

Yep. Everything interesting about her was swept away.

We were supposed to be moved by that bracelet, but all I could think of was "We never see these kids." Oh, and hearing Harrison had a charm was LOL

Exactly. It's vets rinsing and repeating all the old hits. Josh Griffith thinks honoring history means giving us the same stories over again.

Where are the young people on this show? WTH is going on?

Cole is a perfect example to represent everything JG is. He does reference history and bring characters back, but it's invariably a huge disappointment. Cole has done NOTHING since his return. Now he's sick, and instead of us worrying about him, we're smirking because these wealthy people won't call a doctor. I don't think anyone cares if he lives or dies.

Complete disaster. The Alexander Dumas story is the worst of all. ALL this buildup for ALL these months -- you just know it's going to land with a thud. Even the best writer couldn't follow through with something good.

Will any of it matter? Two days after we see all these shocked faces when Dumas appears, we'll be back to talking about takeovers and changes in job titles.

None of this will change unless Josh Griffith is fired, and unfortunately, the ratings aren't calling for a firing. I will never understand why Y&R and B&B are immune to long periods of relly bad storytelling.

It just reinforces everything that's wrong with this couple and this show, doesn't it? It's not romantic, it's not sexy, it's not anything.

Instead, I end up thinking about the set -- how long it took to put up even more greenery to remind us we're in the park, that the weather in WI must be really mild to produce those full-bloom roses, and how adorable that they've added tables so people can carry Panera there to eat.

    • IMO I get a brotherly/sisterly vibe from Kat/Jacob
    • Yes, the locale officially switched to Illinois in the early-1980s.  But I was watching daily during the entire Lemay era, and I'm fairly confident Bay City was never referenced as being in Michigan in any of Lemay's scripts. Agreed, Lemay did care about AW's past -- and used the past as subtext for many characters.  But it is unfortunate he chose never to mention (or perhaps was unaware of) the Michigan connection.  So by not mentioning it, this may be when that connection was lost for TPTB.

King of the Hill Voice Actor Johnathan Joss was gunned down and shot dead this past Sunday at 59 years old in Texas.  Here's the video of someone recording Joss' last moments before he was murdered.  This Monday past, the suspect turned himself to the police station and currently placed on house arrest until his Trial on August.
    • I was hoping the Articulettes  would be more like Klymaxx then the Supremes.  Talk about inspiration for a soapy type of stories  (one of the bandmates tried to use the name in order to perform, internal fighting over who was the lead, and the same bandmate that tried to use the name of the group tried to include their name as a song writer... and almost got an award for songwriting). I could see Sharon/Tracy/Anita fighting over all that... and Sharon trying to use the name Articulettes in order to perform and big bad bully Anita and Vernon block it from happening. Shanice is like Amy Vining... but BTG... Amy Vining had a life beyond the nurses station.
    • I don't believe Lemay was the one who negated the fact that the show was originally set in Michigan. Aside from a few curious character mutations, he did seem to care about the past. I think AW switched the local to Illinois in the 1980s or later. I don't think TPTB always knew or remembered the past well enough to give new headwriters full accurate information, anyway. Lemay wrote a story about Pat Randolph killing a predator named Greg Bernard who was targeting her daughter. The writer referred to a teenaged Pat killing her boyfriend (Tom Baxter) by stabbing him, as she later killed Greg. But in reality, Pat had shot Tom with a gun, so TPTB were lax in knowing or correctly relating established facts to the current scribe. Is the specific murder weapon of a long-gone character a vital component 15 years after the fact? Probably not to most viewers, but for those who had been watching way back when, little mistakes like this can be grating. I'm not devastated that AW changed Bay City's home state along the way, but I see this as another grating point that a little research could have prevented. Soap viewers have loooooong memories, LOL!
    • Ooopphh , I just watched my recording and thought, what's going on there.
    • Yes I was watching AW during that time, but I was very young.  So might have missed the references you mentioned. The late 1960s and early 1970s would have been during the Nixon and Cenedella head-writing eras.  Assuming you are correct, I'm quite surprised (and disappointed) Harding Lemay did not continue the Michigan references.  Especially since he was raised in a far northern region of a northern state, very very near the Canadian border. And I know he loved writing (either directly or indirectly) about his upbringing in that region. Perhaps no one in the studio ever told Lemay about the Michigan connection.  Who knows??  But I'm sure Lemay would have had a field-day playing all those Michigan references, which would have made his AW even more believable and relevant than it already was.  Such a missed opportunity!!
    • To me, there were some weaker writers on ATWT in the 1980s pre-Marland, but starting in 2000, the advent of the show's associated with Hogan Sheffer and Jean Passanante, the quality plummeted and remained in the toilet for the show's remaining years. It's amazing that so many actors were still able to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I just don't think KMS was one of them.
    • Off camera so we could be surprised today.
