It is night and day, but I don't hate it because it seems to be true to life from my perspective. Living in Texas, I have a wide variety of friends/circles... not to stereotype or paint broad strokes, but for example, I've seen a handful of my gay friends go through something similar: meet for coffee/drink, hit it off immediately and have sex, and then introduce their new person as their boy/girlfriend a few days later. Granted, maybe not to family members (that's a bit extreme), but definitely friend groups. On the other hand, some of my college friends that are more conservative or religious took a long time to court their partner and wouldn't have sex until after they married. So I think it makes sense to show both extremes, whether they truly thought it out/planned it that way or not. Seems real to life for me. Although maybe as a viewer, we do want to see faster progress generally on the Kat/Thomas thing haha.

This show desperately needs some love stories. Two people meeting, having sex, and announcing they are a couple within days is not a story.

MAYBE they plan something to happen to turn it into a story, but the joy of watching a soap love story is the longing, the obstacles, the build up to WANTING to see them get together.

Perhaps this is going to be a blip, with Chelsea disillusioned again, which may lead to an actual big romance for her. I hope so, because this by itself isn't very compelling.

Absolutely -- Phil and Tara, Steve and Alice, Bill and Laura, Doug and Julie, Mac and Rachel.  Those are the romances that brought the "college audience" to daytime in the 1970s.   And that type of romance is exactly what's missing on daytime today -- even BTG doesn't have any big romantic couples struggling to be together.   I do LOVE BTG and I watch every day.  But why no long-suffering love story??

And within days of meeting 😌 This is crazy.

That ain't stop this soap opera...

Hayley is 26👀😳. The actress Marquita Goings looks great but  definitely looks mid to late 30s. The age vs actor contrast on this show is really off for alot of characters (Martin being Nicole's son for one).

Having a family meeting to introduce your family to someone you’ve been dating for a few days is absolutely ridiculous. I want this couple to implode immediately just for the stupidity of this relationship.

Same. Just blow them up. This is so bad. I cannot believe they're giving us this crap. Both Chelsea and Madison are coming off as immature and pathetic. Also bad? Dani hyperventilating with excitement over them as a couple. Seriously?

And why didn't Vernon -- sage, wise Vernon -- share his concern with the couple instead of giving us this 1960s version of "I approve"? I hated the whole thing. None of it worked for me.

-- Daphnee Duplaix acted the hell out of her scenes of Nicole arguing with Dani, but that level of anger? I guess I'll have to chalk it up to how unhappy Nicole is.

-- I am tired of the constant references that Andre and Dani aren't related by blood. We get it.

-- Seeing June right after hearing Hayley say she has no one was like an anvil to the head.

-- If that photo June carries is supposed to be realistic, June and Hayley have to be sisters. There's no way a photo of Samantha and Tyrell would look like that.

-- So Derek visits Ashley and we see her running sick to the bathroom. You mean I'm the only one who thinks she might be pregnant? It's the first thing I thought of.

The speed of the relationship between Chelsea and Madison is being figured into the writing, so this choice appears (at the moment) to be character-based, a residual effect of Chelsea’s own family trauma setting off her own impulses. As well as Dani’s rushing to get them in front of the rest of the family.

It may end up being that the relationship is the real deal, but the viewers concern/skepticism has been vocalised on screen by primarily Vernon. So that’s a step.

I hear you, but what about Madison's impulses? She's going along with this insta-love.

Months ago:
Andre trying to kiss Ashley, then backing off,
and then Andre telling Nicole that he had tried to kiss Ashley.

Weeks ago:
Nicole asking Dani if she's into Andre, and Dani denying it.
Andre telling Ted that he and Dani are are sleeping together.
Dani admitting to Pamela that Dani/Andre are sleeping together.

Yesterday and today, all of this:

Dani asking Andre, Are you sure there isn't a younger woman you want?
(Dani has no idea that it's Andre)

Derek telling Jacob, and again telling Ashley, that she must want someone other than Derek.
(Derek doesn't want to say it out loud, but I think he suspects it's Andre).

Naomi asking Ashley if there's someone else, and Ashley denying it.
Derek asking Ashley if there's someone else, and Ashley denying it.

Andre telling Jacob that he(Andre) is upset that Ashley and Derek broke up, and Jacob confronting Andre by asking "are you?".

Jacob telling Naomi that he(Jacob) thinks there's an Ashley/Derek thing simmering under the surface.

Ashley dreaming that shirtless Andre is bringing her morning coffee, and that he's referring to the night they just spent together, and then Ashley wakes up.

Derek visits Ashley and we see her running nauseous to the bathroom.
I had just assumed that the nausea was the tequila hangover.
I totally missed the hint that another poster mentioned upthread: maybe the nausea is due to Ashley being pregnant.

Chelsea and Kate figuring out that Andre/Dani are involved from the way Andre walked into Dani's wardrobe outbuilding.

Dani admitting to Andre that she's afraid of announcing their involvement, because she is afraid that Andre will hurt her and humiliate her the way Bill did.

Andre telling Ted that he and Dani were considering going public but Dani's afraid of announcing their involvement, because she is afraid that Andre will hurt her and humiliate her the way Bill did.  Also Andre and Ted discussing/wondering how Nicole will react to learning of Dani/Andre involvement.

Nicole telling Dani that she's tired of secrets, and in response, Dani telling Nicole that she and Andre have been sleeping together for weeks.

-------------------------------------

So everyone knows
*either* that Dani/Andre are involved,
*or* that Ashley/Andre have secret interest in one another.

Nobody knows about both except Nicole.
Will Nicole warn Andre not to hurt Dani?
Will Nicole warn Dani about Andre?
Maybe Nicole will decide she can't worry about that mess.

-------------------------------------

Good grief, ugh.

I just listed a zillion examples of the anvils the show seems to be dropping.
Make. it. stop.
MAKE. IT. STOP.

It seems like the show is trying to sell us that Andre and Ashley are the star-crossed long-suffering romantic couple struggling to be together.

Gag me.

This is where I am grateful to read MVJ's message that there's a plan! That is my only hope that there's a better plan for Andre than that!

Fully agree with you about all the anvils and the setup that Andre and Ashley are "the star-crossed long-suffering romantic couple struggling to be together."

My worry is that this is MVJ's plan.

And BTW, if Ashley is pregnant, that's another roadblock in the way of the star-crossed lovers. GAG ME is right.

The list of anvils sounds good (on paper) (theoretically) for an outline of star-crossed lovers for a soap.

But the character Ashley is a total loser and makes all of this awful, and it totally doesn't work, at all.

I am holding onto hope that MVJ has a plan other than what the anvils are indicating.  Please surprise me with something better.

That I won’t attempt to rationalise 😅

That’s a ‘lack-of-care’ written detail that suggests to me she herself might not be long for the show, even if her ‘function’ is served.

I doubt it.

We'll get either a boring Derek marriage or a total mess of an Ashley and Andre relationship.

So far, I'm very disappointed overall in MVJ's writing of the show.

And can they please fire Ron Carlivati. He's an awful breakdown writer and so obvious when he's the one BW the episode.

I need to hope that the characters in the Ashley/Andre mess have some backstory that was long-written, but the viewers haven't guessed.  Or something is planned that will lead these characters in other directions.

Brandon Claybon tweeted months ago a vague tease that it's nothing anyone has guessed (presumably referring to the Martin storyline) and MVJ replied in agreement.

So I continue to hope for *all* of the BTG storylines to evolve in unexpected ways.
