First random thought of the day: Maggie could easily replace Victor's portrait.  Office Depot can make an oil painting from an 8×10 photo in under a day.

Second, I was really thinking about the Xander/Philip fight today.

I like that they didn't use a gun.  We know Philip will survive, and there's more moral ambiguity in a fight.

  1. For example, why didn't Philip fight back?  He is a military-trained combatant.  And he seems a few years younger than Xander.  So, there were several factors on his side.
  2. On the other hand, I know people have forgotten Philip only has one leg (and Johnny lost an eye), but it is interesting that Belle isn't thinking of charging this as a hate crime against a disabled veteran. (also, nobody thanked Philip for his service today on Memorial Day).

I don't care for the choice flashbacks so far.  As always, they feel too chopped and short.  Not everything needs to be a montage, they could just remember whole scenes from their meeting.

Also, if we have to have not-John (which I would argue has been unnecessary), I wish he didn't have that one throat burn scar.  It is distracting, poorly applied, and it looks like it creases unnaturally.

Meanwhile, I would generally trust Belle, over any of her siblings, with my medical proxy.  But, if we lived in a soap universe, and she brought it up like a cliffhanger, only to be resolved after the break, I'd be perturbed.

Wow.  That was one of DAYS' best episodes start to finish.  There were so many good and emotional and well acted scenes. I really appreciate the long scene too. Maggie has always had a soft spot for Xander so to her so fierce towards Xander was a pleasant surprise.  Suzanne and Paul were great going toe-to-toe.   We got another really good Sarah/Xander scene.

Loved Brady/Paul's scenes just with the two of them.  Paul saying how it feels like he just found out that John was his father and that Eric/Carrie/Sami/Brady/Belle had their entire lives to love him.  But they were all lucky to have John as their father.   And Paul revealing his and Andrew's initial plan to elope but now their plan is to get married in Salem with all their loved ones there.  My God. Punch to the gut #1. :(

Deidre was phenomenal in those church scenes. :(  Belle bringing up the DNR but this time John's wishes were for him to fight on.  Punch to the gut #2. :(

Steve/Kayla also had a great scene today.  "It's been like a good part of four decades that John Black has been my family."  "Mine too."  Then Steve in the church asking God to save his "Partner." Punch to the gut #3.  :(

The acting, writing, and directing were top notch today.  Bravo, DAYS!

So good to read positive reviews of the new writers.

Just shows what a difference a better quality team can make. No campy stuff/inside jokes/OTT stories. Just good character based writing.

I'm sure the actors are happier.

Hopefully Y&R will get some newbies who can perform a similar transformation.

I think I'm leaning towards Team Xander.  Phillip screwed him over, tried to cheat him out of his birthright, was he just supposed to roll over and take it?  He trusted him and Sarah.    Ridiculous!

You don't take it but you don't beat him to death. Xander deserves prison time.

It really is a stunning turnaround.

I didn't think this kind of improvement was possible in this short time. It's one of the most shocking turns I've seen on the soaps in I don't know how long.

That's how I feel too. I know it's [John reuniting with Isabella] not popular around here

Maybe not, but I still love the thought.

I know Sami was rarely on the best terms with John but I wish she could have been around for some of this.

Is she going to be at the funeral? I can't remember if Ali's stint is already done.

If it's really that good I'll have to check it out. Where to start? I won't know who half these kids are, Higley and co. added way too many.

What a terrible opening scene.

It was definitely not what we needed after such a great episode yesterday. Luckily, the following scenes were much better. And Doug III and Johnny looked hot 😍😂😂

I’m glad that John wasn’t completely forgotten about today though. The children got to absorb the news about him yesterday but today, it was the grandchildren’s turn. I would’ve liked to have seen Tate, and Johnny go see John, but I enjoyed Johnny and Chanel comforting him after his visit, even though the acting was a little… ehhh. And Johnny’s speech to Chanel about John was a bit of a tearjerker. I’m so glad that they’ve decided to name one of their future kids after John. And I like how happy the two of them are, but I’m looking forward to the next conflict, especially with EJ’s shooting still lingering.

But yeah, it also appears that Gabi has a lot to learn about her daughter. I liked how Arianna hinted that Gabi wasn’t around all that much when she was growing up because that is completely a fact lol and it could play into their storyline in the future. And I really hope that Arianna

Spoiler

has scenes with Will coming up. Too bad she won’t have any scenes with Sonny though.

Speaking of Arianna, she and Doug III were kind of sweet together. I don’t mind them going at it so quickly but I still think we should have seen more scenes with them last week. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens for the two of them, and for Tate/Holly, etc. Btw, Doug III is so broke, yet he was able to pay for a room at the Salem Inn 😂😂😂

And yeah, Paul/Andrew >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Javi/Leo

Yes Kreizman wrote the script and Noel Maxam directed.

This makes 2 days in a row where he has directed. Unusual. Yesterday Joanna Cohen was SW. So it's only the director that was consecutive days.

Yes but the scenes are filmed out of order by availability of sets and actors.

(using fake episode numbers and fake director names to illustrate my point)

The directors rotate directing by days on the set, as you said. but... there are sometimes adjustments:

Director XYZ could work all day on a single Wednesday, during which he/she directs parts of episode #1, parts of episode #2, and parts of episode #10 -- because they are using specific sets in all of the scenes being taped that day, and/or because of which actors are available that day.

The next director in the rotation works all day Thursday, filming pieces of various episodes, in the same way.

After all the scenes of a single episode are completely taped, it might end up like this:  Episode #9999 might have been taped partially on Tuesday, partially on a Thursday, and partially a week or two later.   And different directors might have been working on each of the taping dates.

When doing the closing credits, they look at who directed which scenes.  A single episode might have some scenes directed by Mr.ABC, and some scenes directed by Ms.DEFG.
The episode is credited to whoever directed largest percentage of the episode.

I don't think this happens all the time. Of course they would try to keep it consistent within the episode, so that it's all done by one director,  But occasionally the process is split up, as I described.

You are 100% correct. And, also you've done a good job of explaining. However, I still find it unusual for one someone to be listed two days in a row. It does not tend to fall that way. But, it is not a matter of consequence. It could easily be a coincidence. If it happened all the time we would have seen it. And, now, I have taken up more of our time than is strictly warranted. Sorry.
