The set up for everything with EJ was the best part of today. Rafe is still a dick though.  But I did like Gabi trying to get him to see reason about Shawn and Jada.

Brady and Belle’s conversation was good too. His advice to Belle was really nice, even though part of me thinks he’s full of crap and is just too dumb to realize it

I also enjoyed Johnny and Roman’s conversation, even though I still think that they needed to establish Roman’s anger a little bit better and build it up more. Their scenes, on their own, make this all worth it. Carson Boatman is still doing a really good job. He’s improved as an actor. And I’m still really liking the way they’re treating Sami, as a character.

Chanel letting EJ have it was great too and I hope she’s right in telling EJ that Johnny’s never gonna forgive him. The animosity between them is something that really shouldn’t be rushed. And hopefully, once

And honestly, I can’t believe I’m saying this; I never thought I would, but where’s Leo? His article is setting off so much stuff right now that he should be a part of it. I don’t get it; he’s so shoehorned into things that he has no business being in but the one time that he’s (possibly) necessary, he’s nowhere to be seen? That’s just bad writing and producing.

EJ having him killed would be nice

The cliffhanger was ok, but the time jump was unnecessary. I don’t see why they couldn’t have let this all play out until Friday.

Again, rehashing EJ is responsible for the adoption failing. Yawn... move on. Chanel and Johnny aren't ready to be parents. They are too immature.

The setup for EJ was bland. Not all the players were in the episode, and Johnny getting the gun was laughable.

The ending with EJ. What are you doing here? Predictable and boring.

It would be interesting for EJ to discuss his own conception.  Stefano dressed up as Elvis, drugged Susan and inseminated her with his sperm without her consent, making her believe The Elvis was the father.  I am not sure if EJ knows this, but there is a whole angle of him thinking it was 'okay' and he got over it.  He forgave his father so Johnny should forgive him.

Given that Johnny has never exactly exuded worldliness—or much of a European vibe (they dropped the 'Gio' nickname with record speed)—it feels more natural for him to share scenes with Roman rather than EJ.

I didn’t quite follow the Sami reference, but it’s worth noting that she still doesn’t know Johnny is aware he's the “product of rape”—arguably the clunkiest line of dialogue in this entire storyline. Every time Johnny is saddled with that awkward exposition, it completely derails the moment for me.

I have to disagree with @AbcNbc247 I actually thought the time manipulation was a clever choice. I frequently joke that we have no idea what time it is in Salem, so this felt tailor-made for my sensibilities. We have no clue where Johnny, Chanel, Jada, Gabi, and Rafe have been—or for how long. We don’t know whether EJ has already been injured. And we certainly don’t know what transpired before Ava arrived.

What we do know is that if EJ survives, he can identify his attacker.

That said, I question the conspicuous absence of Chad, Kate, and Leo—each of whom has a motive, yet none have been directly impacted by the article’s fallout. And why are Philip, Alex, and Xander being so easily ruled out? Ignoring the business angle feels like a missed opportunity. Would it have killed them to give us a scene of EJ smugly taunting his less competent corporate rivals?

Ehhh... I just think time jumps are weird, and not necessary on soaps, in general. They could've built it up and dragged it out a little longer.

And it feels weird to have a Friday cliffhanger on a Wednesday, or in this case, in the first few scenes on a Thursday.

Unless (hope spring eternal), and they do some sort of creative “Rashomon”-inspired storytelling and tomorrow show us what people were doing during today's time jump. So, by Friday, the two timelines merge.

Furthermore, any day should feel like a Friday cliffhanger, if they are telling the story well.  Because the stakes should always feel heightened and unpredictable.

With all those two have been through in the past year, it's just ridiculous that they'd even consider adoption at this point -- let alone by hearing someone in town is pregnant and deciding they'll take the baby.

Damn… they went far back at the beginning lol.

While I enjoyed today, I still think it would’ve worked a lot better if this was Monday’s episode and the shooting had been the big Friday cliffhanger. And I’m still not sure why the actual shooting didn’t take place until the beginning of today as opposed to the end of yesterday. I do appreciate that the aftermath of EJ’s shooting and the mystery of it all was handled well, even though I think that they could’ve slowed it down a little bit too. The make up job was pretty good, and as always, Billy Flynn killed it.

And so did Carson Boatman. I hoped that they were going to take this route with Johnny and EJ’s relationship and I’m glad that it seems like they will. I want them to be estranged for a long time.

I also liked how they established Ava as a suspect/red herring, but what she said made a lot of sense. As much as I’d prefer that a few other characters be sent packing instead of her, there really is no reason for her to stay in Salem. See ya!

But the shoehorning about Rex was really sudden and random though. I understand them wanting to establish Kate as an additional suspect but they really needed to build that up a lot more. All the more reason why they should’ve played this storyline out until Friday.

But I am looking forward to this storyline, in general, especially since the fallout is gonna be handled by the new writers. I’d like to see what they’re gonna do with this. And I wonder if they changed any of Ron’s projections/who the shooter is.

Carson Boatman sucked. The guy can't act.

For me, the whole setup sucked. If you're doing an attempted murder mystery, you have all the suspects in the episode. Their motives are genuine and not contrived.

The speech by EJ before he got shot was corny. They tried a la JR "no one is going to stop me" vibe and failed. EJ even saw his shooter. I'd rather he not know who tried to kill him. Now he'll be blackmailing everyone that he will accuse them of the crime.

I'm sure the shooter is someone lame like Arnold or Kristen mom.

The shooting was so cheaply produced too.

Btw....

Didn't Johnny take Roman's gun? How did Roman get the gun? Or was it a different gun?

So bizarre to pen a “Whodunnit?” on your way out the door. I wonder what backstage going ons possessed Ron to go with this story, and as someone said upthread it seems rushed, sloppily put together, and not really thought out.

    • Stephanie looked really beautiful today.  Her hair matched her dress and she looked stunning. As for Cat, now she's an art major?  And she's taken a few too many kooky pills. I felt the Xander and Sarah interactions would've been improved greatly by just allowing them to talk for one long scene.  I think Xander's whole demeanor began to be a distraction.  Especially as it was prolonged from scene to scene. A slow burn would've been more entertaining.   Also, it is difficult not to look at the two characters, him with slicked back, a sharp suit, and charming accent, and her with her ratty hair, baby voice, and jeans, and not think they seem ill-suited for each other.  And that's only the superficial differences.  Their morals, values, and coping skills are also diametrically opposed.  Big kudos to the team for having a character soon return just as Sarah and Xander break up.  It doesn't seem contrived, or too convenient.  This was a long term secret, and I appreciate that it will have equally long-lasting consequences.
    • OMG! This woman is cray cray!!! Oops. Here comes Jacob.   Andre continues to be so...mature and/or chill for the show's playboy.   OH...a Naomi/Derek scene.   HAHAHAHA! Not a Nicole word! And #preach at Pamela about today's dating scene. And OMG at the kiss with Bill's reaction.

    • Awwww poor Chelesa.   HAHAHAHHA!! First, Nicole! Now Pamela! Clocking Dani/Andre. But oh, no, she thinks he don't care, don't care. Well, boo!
    • Chelsea being angry that a married woman turned her down is so ridiculous and her taking it out on Dani is even more silly. I did like the fact that she told Bill to go away. The fact that Bill allowed Dani to push his buttons enough to say something once again shows that he likes playing these games. And Hayley is too dumb to call him out on it (as well as too clueless to tell him to go to the doctor for an obvious health issue). We are seeing just how diabolical Leslie is with how she manipulated Eva.
    •   I like all of these ideas. Hayley desperately needs a friend or talk to. Her coworker at the law firm was actually great but I don’t remember the last time they showed her.
    • Oooo Eva! That's right! Call her out!!!   It's a Sara breakdown day!!! Even better. I think of the breakdown writers, she is my favorite.   Oh, look, Chelesa's storyline is back.
    • I totally forgot. Thank you!
    • It'sssss timmme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
