I've read multiple times that MB hates the black hair, implying that production forces it on him. Considering all the power he wields at GH, I have a really hard time believing that. If he truly wanted to go gray, he would.

This is the PERFECT summary of the Brook Lynn pregnancy mess.

So, who can answer this question for me? The coat that Laura has on today irl is teal but it looks to us to be black. What does it mean about the lighting that it reads black to us?

Okay, this calls it forest green. But, still, neither is black!

Admittedly I'm not the biggest Lois fan, but I actually do think there's potential in someone who prided herself on honesty and integrity keeping such a huge secret from mother and son for decades. It's much more interesting, on paper, than the years Lois spent going on about Ned's scheming, or the recent "story" about losing her accent. The problem is, as a few have already pointed out, the story is poorly thought out and probably won't have any aftermath beyond Brook Lyn being mad at her mother (maybe) for a brief time (unless Rena leaves and there's some permanent rift).

I do hope they will at least bring up Olivia's own paternity lies about Dante and how that may color her reaction to Lois' actions, but that type of history/nuance probably went out the door with Mulcahey, unless "the historian" wants to surprise us.

By all accounts, including his own, he has little to no bts power now. He has admitted this several times since COVID on his YouTube show. He came back to the show in an incredibly fragile state mentally, and has never gotten back the level of stability he had before his COVID breakdown. When he had his latest episodes this summer, he was basically forced to return to work or there would be temp casting. He has said several times that they make him dye his hair. I only watch his show when he has a true soap veteran on, plus a handful of GH ones, maybe 10 of them, and he has been pretty honest about his mental health and how the BTS culture of the show has changed.

It is also pretty clear none of the talent has much power nowadays. Genie Francis only got rehired because of the longevity of the public outcry directed at Frank specifically. Monaco would have been untouchable even five years into Frank’s tenure. Burton has come back clearly humbled and just happy to be with his lifelong colleagues again. Even FV’s power has somewhat diminished- look at Howarth and Easton.

I think we all give them credit for what kind of power they used to wield. Look at DAYS with AA. They let that [!@#$%^&*] go on way beyond the talent asking for investigations. I don’t think any soap actors have any power beyond deciding to sign a new contract when they are fed up or burned out.

Exactly! Put some meat on those bones and you can make sense out of it. It’s the kind of conflict that would have been natural for Lois had she stayed during her first run. What happens when she starts to compromise her ethics, even if it is to protect someone else? That’s the kind of story I would love to see played out here. Watching Lois realize all her justifications don’t matter because she broke her own personal ethical code is good stuff, beyond just being a mom and everything being about BLQ (we know the dad if the rumors are true will barely be involved due to the show bias). Not just another paternity story where everyone is mad for a few weeks and then all good.

Not didn’t want to. By every account I have seen including his own statements he couldn’t do it. It was dragging on too long for him to play that volatility and mania with his mental health issues, and it was getting worse onscreen with no end in sight. The same thing happened when they played his manic depression during the Emily affair. They had to cut it short because he had a breakdown.

Thanks. So I guess they will stop...if you have a breakdown. Wonderful backstage atmosphere.

The way you describe it shows what this Gio story could be compared to what we are going to get.

And now I'm reminded they had the whole Trina paternity story which also ended up going nowhere. If they'd ever had any real interest in Trina/Gio that might have been a good writing choice to have them bond over these lies.

They still can, even as friends, if the show cares.

I don't think Maurice actively killed the breakdown story under Mulcahey - he said at the time he was eager to play it. Then things went sideways. I do think if a show is having to trash key story because the actor is unfit or unwell, and he is still expected to be the center fulcrum of the show in frontburner story, that's a problem.

I don't think he has much active power anymore. I do think he is still sometimes vocal, and they give in to his needs because they fear losing the audience and fear for his health.

As for today: I like how they didn't even bother to have McKenna do the accent lol. Frank does not care!

I would say ideally you give Lois a co-conspirator in this Gio plot.  Ned, Olivia, or even Tracy.  They helped decide they didn't want Brook or Dante to go through with the teenage pregnancy and Lois reluctantly agreed.  Thus, giving Ned/Olivia some conflict that involves Lois and
BLQ but not in the obvious love triangle way.  Instead, it's just going to be Lois getting the entire blame.

The only potentially interesting outcome of this needless secret child plot for me is again, if Gio lashes out by going full rich party animal, drinking and drugging and becoming generally hedonistic to cause trouble. And even that is not worth aging up Dante and BLQ so much.

I agree with @Darn that all this is a waste of time for Dominic and Alexa, who are both very strong and also good together. But so much of the long story on this show (if any exists at this point) seems to be about largely marking and wasting time. I still think this may all lead to Chase ending up back in black widow Willow's arms again though, and I'm here for it if it gets that himbo off the show.

Maybe this is a Minority opinion but I personally have only thought of this in terms of Chase being furious with Brook Lynn & Gio reacting potentially negatively to both Brook Lynn & Dante. I would not be surprised if this blows up ChaLynn. In which case I see Chillow. If anyone is going to be furious with Lois, wouldn't it most likely be Sonny? And, those two old friends will talk it out.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.

New episode from late 1973 or early 1974!
    • Coronation Street had a very good story where one of the characters befriended a man who she later learned had been involved in her husband's death - when told right it can be very powerful (not like AMC trying to make it a romance). ATWT almost had a big fire in mid-1994, so this seemed to be a "thing" with P&G at the time. I guess it fits the disaster backstage atmosphere.
    •   @jmgaw did not refer to Luke and Laura. Throughout 78 GH's ratings continued to rise as AW's fell. That turnaround was getting a lot of attention in the soap press with Scotty/Laura, Rick/Leslie/Monica etc . So the 90 min decision was a reaction to that. I guess the thinking was that 60 min expansion had worked so starting AW a half hour before might keep viewers from switching to GH at 3pm. I don't think anybody really thought it would work. The most sensible solution would have been to expand The Doctors and hope for a GH like turnaround, but for reasons unknown TD never went to an hour.
    • Like I said competing organization But this is not what I want to happen.
    • Hotel no doubt benefited from the Dynasty lead in and didn't move until it was jettisoned to Sat night wasteland to play out a final season. Maybe it should have been moved earlier to perhaps bolster another night and allow ABC to nurture another show in the post Dynasty timeslot when the former was still a ratings winner.
    • Who is going to say, "I'm headed home to watch The Chew?!?!" One of the most ridiculous names ever. I didn't watch AMC or keep up with it towards the end, but OLTL still had life in it and could have gone on. OLTL 2.0 was entertaining and worked because RC was not involved. A real shame that did not work because I think the show could have gone in good directions.

    • I've always said that JFP's main problem is that she comes up with some shocking event and she plans around the event but she never thinks much about the emotional fallout for the characters or the fans. That's why so many of her stories don't work and damage her shows. I like your idea about Lando playing the person involved in hitting Maureen. It would have given Peter Simon something to do which is the feeble excuse they gave for killing Maureen off in the first place. Instead, they gave us the dreck they did.  And they were so obsessed with recreating the blackout week that they kept putting characters in fires and blizzards. None of which I saw, but going through the Logan columns I noticed: every few weeks, someone at GL would give an interview to Logan saying GL was going to get better because they had a great new storyline (A fire! A blizzard! A fire!) . Insanity.
