Yeah… can we not ruin Emma to prop the actual ungrateful dog with a bone, please? Gio, I like ya a lot but that was not necessary.

And I agree Guy Wilson is doing a good job as TempLucky, and I can see why he needed to play those scenes today as opposed to JJ. But yeah, still don’t see why the kiss needed to happen though.

Two days in a row an excellent cliffhanger.

All episode all I did was fear that the show was finally taking their chance to potentially shock kill off Liz, thank god I was wrong. Those scenes with Cyrus had the perfect tension. I found myself thinking of course he’s confessing, he’s going to kill Liz. Lucky being stabbed the syringe though was surprising.

The music this show uses for Drew and Willow while also portraying them as pariahs sends two totally different messages. I don’t need lovey dobey music as Drew shows his nephew’s wife the house he bought for them while Michael is literally still recovering and they aren’t divorced.

With the way they've been about L&L2 Redux I think this is likely one of Becky Herbst's safest points! Korte/Van Etten literally said Liz & Lucky are "foundational" to their current view of the show.

But, they are in the process of becoming divorced. Papers have been filed so their legal status is closer to divorced than to being married.

I think some are expecting BTG to be the savior for daytime soaps. That is a lot of pressure

As I said on socials

I welcome BTG to the daytime soap family. I wish it all the best. I also continue to wish success and longevity  on BB DAYS GH Neighbours YR
The more we support these SIX, we may get a SEVENTH or EIGHTH

I don't support soap operas that are bad. This isn't a pep rally.

I love GH and have watched it most of my life. I also think GH is mostly bad these days and a great deal of the cast should be cut, along with the creative regime. These people aren't my friends IRL and I don't know them. They're not owed lifetime jobs. If you want to know why people are supporting BTG, it's because they're tired of the same old grinding mediocrity (as well as self-evident racism) and are very hopeful for something better. And if it came down to one show I'd watch at 2 PM, it would absolutely be BTG first.

Just because I grew up watching this show does not mean I am obligated to always support it blindly, and don't think massive changes need to be made.

Despite being mostly terrible at present I am sure GH will be tough competition for BTG. So am I rooting for it to fail against BTG? Absolutely. The only way GH can get better is to take real losses.

I agree; Monday my attention will be on Beyond the Gates. General Hospital is just a boring drag with problematic scripts. So much. Everything in the previews is 100x better and more interesting than what we're seeing on any of the other soaps right now. It will have me locked in at 2pm daily.

I feel for the talented performers that all these shows still employ, that are clearly trying to make crap work. Especially vets.

I don’t know if people around here remember the tone for daytime after OLTL and AMC were cancelled at the same time. It seemed inevitable that GH would be gone soon too.

At that time, the feeling was very real that people that wanted to leave, like Geary and MB, were just hanging on for the end. To me, some of that feeling is back now. And both times, ABC let an Executive Producer stay that should be gone. JFP outlasted Guza and got a HW she could absolutely control- Garin Wolf. And Valentini has installed writers that he has total control over. In both instances, the stories were weak and the overall issues with the show remained, largely due to the storytelling tastes of their EP’s.

FV and RC saved GH, I will never forget that. When GH was firing again, all the soaps were seeing numbers that they had not seen in many years. There was some hope there. They just didn’t have the creative juice in all those tired EP’s and writers they kept recycling to keep it going. Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante were at both GH and Y&R in the same decade and just as awful as they were before. Ron at DAYS. Josh back at Y&R. None of these people are visionary at this point.

My hope is that the same thing does happen again, only this time the lessons need to be learned. Invest in creative voices, and make necessary changes bts to do it. If BTG’s even comes close to strong ratings for today, then other soaps have to evolve, or start planning for their last episodes.

    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
    • I said this on Twitter on Friday when Leslie mentioned Chicago, so perhaps she might be related to one of Anita's bandmates. In addition, Leslie did say she grew up listening to The Articulettes too.
    • There was a scene in the past week or two with Leslie looking at some papers and mementos, which included an invitation or souvenir from Alan's memorial service or funeral -- it was dated as November 2024. Me just guessing but it seems to me that Martin's nightmares about the accident are from something longer ago than November.
    • ah thanks! do you know who the third one was in the blonde? the fifth one i know ive seen before in the brown wig but i forgot, and then ive never seen the psychic one before lol
    • I felt for Ted early on but as the story unfolded it has changed my opinion on him. To know he was cheating while his wife was struggling to give him a baby is a lot to deal with. Plus, this happened ages ago and still he's paying Leslie off and threatening her to leave town.  What really caused me to lose him in this episode was how even though he was busted, he still refused to take responsibility and come clean and the way he talked to Martin and Eva was terrible. To tell Smitty he better get Martin away from him when that is his SON who he used to cover up his affair? That is true dog behavior. Ted seems upset he got caught but I'm not seeing the remorse I would need to want Nicole to forgive him. I'm curious how I'll feel after Ted gets to talk to Nicole but I need him to fix it with the rest of the family as well.
    • I'm sorry. I well remember Jake doing Doris but I have no independent memory of the story around it.  Krystle with a K Lake, sure, both Tony the Tuna stories & NOT.  And, Jake also impersonated a woman named Bunny Eberhardt but he didn't know she was a woman so there was no drag. This weekend I re-watched Kevin & Mac, GH, and my strong impression is exactly what it was when I watched it in real time: They did not let them look very pretty. Of course, I think the best ever drag on GH was Alexis posing as the Q butler.  In a different use of drag at AW one Halloween, Jensen Buchanan went as Charlie Chaplin & Judi Evans went as, I think, a male gypsy.

    • I'm not sure who wanted them to dump REUNION & instead do a "Dallas-like daytime show" but it seems that it def came from NBC to AW through Rauch, so, yes, it absolutely could have been his (cough-another-stupid?) decision!!!! I've just begun the new Lisanti book so maybe I will find out. (I waited for the kindle version to come out.) I would apologize for being so critical & so sarcastic, too, but, well, I'm not actually sorry!  Silverman was NOT a friend to AW.  And, I believe the critique is on point & deserved! I wanted to explain why I think the timing is off for the 90 minute show to be a reaction to the GH Luke & Laura story & its hype. Because, for sure, networks & production companies did react to it! The first 90 minute show was Monday, March 5, 1979.  And, there was some unknown amount of time ahead of that with people arguing about it & then, planning it.  The Luke & Laura wedding was mid-November 1981.  They were on the run from Frank Smith & stayed overnight in Wyndham's Dept. Store early August 1980.
