Was there any reporting on why they recast Jack Brennan?  That was a surprise.  I liked the actor.  The recast actor is good, too.  Wasn't he Joey Buchanan back in the 1990s on One Life To Live?

Surprised they gave Selena Wu an actual office and said she has a shipping business!  Good for her.

Too soon to make any judgments about Carly and NuBrennan, but I did like Lucas being there for his sister today. It's time for Lucas to get his own storyline though.

I was loving Lucky/Liz/Ric too. They really need to push this storyline because it's one of the best on the show right now. I'm so interested in seeing where the three of them are gonna go from here, and after all this Cyrus stuff ends.

And yeah, they still want us to hate Drew and Willow. And it's still working lol but I do love how we have to hate Willow for what she did/doing but when an even worse character did the exact same thing, we had to love her for it

And Tracy, FTW! This is how she always should be written.

Well, I don't hate you for not being a Liz fan.

Liz has always had possibilities only hindered by BTS agendas.

That said...don't hate me...but I liked that 3 of her love interests showed up in town last year around the same time and FINALLY everyone was SINGLE...while RH was also getting all kinds of screen time. But I guess I can't have nice things. lol.

I'm not even against Liz finding a new guy, either. I was one of the few that did not mind Ewen when he was around.

Oh it's coming. Slowly, but surely.

Amen.

Not as much as the two months of RH being the lead in the episode count and Liz having constant scenes with all THREE of her past love interests. I'm happy to see her all the same...and NOT catch up.

I agree. Elizabeth's story of setting aside her dreams after getting pregnant very young by the wrong guy, and then still building a wonderful life and career, is very relatable and is something that strikes to the heart of the genre and its audience for me. Which is why I only grew truly interested in the character after she became a mother. Though I also think Becky and Jonathan still have it (much moreso as weathered adults for me than as a teen couple, when I found them too sweet together) and they should be A-story. While it's sadly common for Becky and Liz, it's inconceivable to me that JJ especially is being relegated to the B-tier atm. In any event, they should be central.

I had to laugh at Anna/Felicia/etc thinking about how crazy Robert's reaction would be about Sasha getting pregnant by Jason.  Did everyone in Port Charles just forget Robin was in a long-term relationship with Jason for years, lived with him, and helped raise baby Michael?  The show's erasure of one of my favorite 90's couples hurts my heart.

I'm probably a contrarian as I did not care for Liz in the years where the show was pushing her (moreso after JJ left and we got Jason/Liz, the model period, and all the endless dock pity party scenes) but after it became clear the show had no real use for her beyond what moved the plot along (this began somewhere in the mid '00s, if not a few years earlier), I warmed to her a little. The truly ugly way that she was treated in JJ's first return (through no fault of his) still stays with me.

Becky Herbst will never be one of my favorite actresses, but she is calm, direct, capable of some subtlety, and after getting to see some of GH of the '60s and '70s over the last decade, is more at home with the foundational acting style of GH than I had realized. She also has chemistry with most of her leading men, which is rare.

The show should have done so much more with her as a single mother, should have done much more with her kids, who have now all been shipped off, or in Aidan's case, overaged and given a cynically, depressingly offcamera coming out storyline. But in some ways that may have benefited Liz - look at what happened to Carly and her kids when they were treated as leading characters. They are all completely spent (and one is long dead, somehow staying dead even with ill-fated attempts to change that).

It's a shame they apparently did such a half-assed job bringing in her parents as I know a number of fans had wanted that for a long time.

I agree that Liz should be in a new relationship. Lucky's return has been exactly what I expected (I believed the show had passed him by, and I still believe that), and Ric makes sense in her life as their version of John Dixon and Kim Hughes. As for Jason - Jake should still be on the canvas and that should cause much more of a relationship between Jason and Liz, but I think that only works as tension over what could have been and never was, not anything now.

I could and would recast both Liz's parents tomorrow (I'd even try to get Robert Newman as Jeff on a recurring basis, because why not?). They could drive a lot of story with that relationship, especially with her mother as a domineering schemer at the hospital and in that family.

    • Its realistic for Dani and  true of how the character thinks and operates
    • Random takes: - What was even the point of that jeweler guy? Also—Dani was borderline harassing him. - I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I want Jacob and Kat to happen. I need something messy to completely dismantle the Duprees—and Katomas just isn’t cutting it.  - I officially can’t stand Jacob and his wife. Same goes for Anita and Vernon. - Hayley’s corset was just as ugly as it looked uncomfortable. - I genuinely don’t remember when or how Derek and Ashley reconciled—and I’m someone who didn’t even mind their storyline! LMAO. - Tuesday’s episode was a mess. - Dani finding out about Hayley’s pregnancy and immediately thinking, “She’s faking it”—huh?! What writer thought that was a realistic reaction? I get denial, but that leap was absurd. I agree the ‘Leslie Victorious’ moment was way OTT. But hey, at least I wasn’t yawning. The following episode, where she handed over her daughter’s last few belongings was much better. - I can’t with the constant back-and-forth between Orphey Gene’s and the Country Club. I forgot this was such a soap trope, but even back in my loyal viewer days (late ‘90s, early 2000s), it wasn’t this bad. While GH has a ton of beautiful sets, we’re stuck with the same three—and half of them are ugly. Also: it’s been way too long since we had a party, gala, or any kind of event. I know the Richardsons’ anniversary gala (back in late April) has had a big ripple effect, but I was kinda getting used to those large-scale episodes. Fingers crossed they don’t go with Guza.
    • The horrific comments execs and writers make when they justify rape storylines or keeping rapists as love interests is just so icky. I remember Ron Carlivati's comments about the reraping of Marty storyline on OLTL. Made my skin crawl.  No matter what you think of her, Susan Lucci could have demanded front burner storylines but she never did. She was happy to be part of an ensemble. I never got that vibe from Zimmer.  For me, Reva was just not a character I cared that much about after a certain point no matter how talented Zimmer is/was. I think Zimmer had a keener eye for what made a good storyline, but she was less willing to take a backseat if it meant someone else got to shine. I'm trying to recall if she ever mentions Michelle Forbes in her book--one of the few times the viewers did not care about Reva in a storyline. My sense is if she did, it was probably some backhanded remark about how she had to show Forbes the ropes.
    • GH was good? I havent watched since Joss went away to do her traininig and Lulu had just called Brooklyn out for having Dante's baby and not telling him

    • There has been some confusion about Michael & facial burns. Please see this post: https://bsky.app/profile/shallotpeel.bsky.social/post/3lqkrryu54226 I've chosen to put this here instead of the Classic Thread because it is now with the appearance of recast Michael that this has come up. Different places online, including at least one podcast, remarks have been made about how remarkable it is that he is without facial scarring. Other fans say it was clear from the first that he did not have facial burns. What is included in this post is 2 screengrabs where you can see his face at the hospital & a very quick edit of that day in the hospital.
    • Put me in the LOVE KMH camp. As a poster alluded to above, her detractors seem to come from people who first experienced the 80s Emily actress. And that's often the case with soaps, myself included. I enjoy the original actor so much that I just never take to the recast. However, KMH played Emily far longer than the original - for almost 20 years - and when she had great material, she was great. I get the sense she didn't like playing the whiny oh-woe-is-me Emily which was all the material she got from about 1996 until she took over the Intruder in late '99/early '00 and got to play a stronger kiss-ass woman who didn't care what anyone thought of her. (Some would call that a bitch but, if a man was in that role, he'd just be called a smart and savvy businessman.) Her relationship with Hal was great. The transformation was done realistically and I thoroughly enjoyed those years the best out of all. Once the writers decided to break up those two, they went back to writing Emily half the time as whiny and pathetic. I preferred when the writers made her stronger.
    • Hahaha - I do. I've always been the type, though, that can't miss anything. I get FOMO, so I'll not skip episodes or fast forward anything. There are only a few TV shows I've dropped because they got so bad vs. sticking it out to the end.  The promise that GL 1997 is better is what keeps me going. I especially want to see the fallout of Blake's lie about her twins and then Annie's descent which I believe won Watros's Emmy.
    • Rita's rape is an episode i constantly search on YouTube hoping one day that it will show up. I always feel like I may have seen it, but I was only 6 at the time and can never figure any of the things I have vague recollection of
