Yup.  You explained it perfectly.

Ava/Sonny could hook up again, but they would be dangerous and volatile with one (or both) trying to outsmart one another for a goal.

Sonny/Alexis would be a mature relationship.  Just finding enjoyment with one another's company.  At this point, they keep trying to give Sonny a mad, passionate, new romance when both characters need some stability and comfort right now.

Ric/Ava have great chemistry.  But what happens when the show tires of RH again?  Which will eventually happen.

I genuinely don't see him going anywhere anytime soon. Reception has been fairly positive towards both Hearst & Ric Lansing. And considering the potential for him, I see him sticking around. Again, he's on the wall of actors currently on cast. He wouldn't have been placed if there were not some kind of plans for him to stick around.

Sooner or later Ric will go under the wheels. He always does. For now I will enjoy him while they use him.

In other belated news since I'm catching up beyond prior bits and pieces, Tajh Bellow was out here lipsynching for his life on Monday! He can smell that thirteenth week around the corner, he sees Isaiah in the corridors and knows there can be only one. Seriously though, it was excellent work by both him and Kristen Vaganos but as I keep saying I can only be so invested in T.J. and Molly after twelve years of backburner fodder and 3-6 recasts between them. I still think the best thing to do is write them out, either separately or together, and bring Molly back solo (and probably recast again tbh) down the road. Vaganos is solid but not remarkable to me outside of isolated stuff like this. Nonetheless, they should be commended for making me care in very good scenes.

Not Drew Q doing the Polar Bear Plunge on the water in December just to divert his mind from that cozy niece piece. That's wild. Is Jason really not going to take off the leather while living at the Qs?

Ric tore Alexis up. The truth is Alexis still sees Kristina as her cherished miracle baby from a stolen moment of unusual passion that she had to hide away and protect for years, and that colors everything about her relationship to her and all her children. No one will ever mean as much as Kristina. Which makes sense for the character, but it's time to evolve.

I already commented on how amazing Finn Carr was with Alexa in keeping up with her, and how I live in fear that Frank will cut him for a hunk or marginalize him a la Eddie Alderson on OLTL or favor the greener Danny (who is improving, but needs the counterbalance). So I'll just say Alexa and Dominic were quite good together. She is nailing the spunk that was always written into the Lulu character without being a hardened, smug element like Berman too often was, which made it impossible for me to invest in any of her romantic pairings. Here it's the right tone and temperature.

First off YAY the board is back.

Also Alexa IS Lulu. I am completely sold. What an excellent casting choice.

Molly and Ric was so hard to watch. He truly loves his daughter and thought he was doing the right thing. Like of course he’d go hard at Kristina, that’s not his daughter and is the woman who would’ve kept the baby from Molly if she didn’t go get the baby killed.

Don’t care about murderer Sonny or bigot Natalia.

I really hope it’s not. When they’ve actually used him in the post surrogacy story and given him a POV he’s been quite good. They just so rarely let us see how he’s feeling.

Definitely here for Ava and Ric.

Thank you. Despite her terrible taste in men, her going to murderer Sonny for anything other than talking about Kristina is a hard no for me. In general I have no interest in anyone being saddled with the mumbling murderer.

I just realized how many people close to Lulu died in those 4 years. My god she should be completely shell shocked.

I'm going to say it: I do not buy the "sibling connection" between Alexa Havins Bruening & Jonathan Jackson at all. Not one bit. Am hoping she works well opposite Genie Francis' Laura today... that could be the saving grace.

I don't see him cutting Finn Carr at this point, who seems to be actively filming. And yes, she is nailing the Julie Marie Berman years, without the issues I had with Berman's work. And she has that more girly-voice that Emme Rylan had, but has better control of it.

YESS! #RAVA

It'd be a HOT pairing, and Rick Hearst is someone who could actually rise to the occasion of acting opposite Maura West... possibly the first since Michael Park on As the World Turns.

    • I 100% agree but I think this is due to how the show is structured. It's a one family show which means there are no people in her age range that could be used as friends or contemporaries of her. The show definitely needs a second main family. I am glad someone finally said this. Especially now that the cast is gelling in their roles, he stands out like a sore thumb. No energy, no chemistry with anybody. He is just there.  I thought that was odd as well! The previous scene would've worked better as a tag for the credits.
    • That's the one and only Carrie Nye (Mrs. Dick Cavett) as Susan Piper, a deadly realtor. I don't want to spoil a lot if you ever want to see those episodes. She returns as another character in 2003. I think Grant has aged well and he always did a good job at being ripped without going too far, but he was never entirely my cup of tea either. I did think John Bolger was hot.
    • Totally agree. KKL looks great! It makes the Widge groveling so bizarre. Brooke needs to leave FC and with $B's/Liam's funding launch a rival fashion house with Hope, Rick, Katie and a secret designer. The best scenario is that Rick has been absent because he's been with very much alive C2, who is revealed on the runway as the secret designer. It'll never happen because B&B is comfortable just focusing on FC and the Forresters Marones v. Logans. But it'd been so much more interesting if the Spencers/Logans united.

    • Haha that scarf thing did go on a bit too long, very odd. And what a young Rick!  I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I just never got the physical appeal of Grant Aleksander, but he's definitely a great actor. Who is the older lady around the 8:30 mark, and also ends the episode, alone and in pain? She seems like a really interesting character. I love the smoky voice and sultry, snaky vibe she seems to have.
    • I can't remember exactly but I think she lives in or is part of the cottage story with Carrie. Carrie poisons her in this episode.  I forgot Teresa was on the show. (I see that AI is insisting she wasn't - well they're wrong) Poor Maeve. I can how even she had her limits.
    • It pisses me off that the other Duprees are making this incident all about them as well. They are playing a family of victims, acting as if Ted cheated on all of them. They should be supportive, but not like this. I have a family that makes anything that happens to me personally all about them, and seeing the same thing on TV is rage-inducing.
    • There are the makings of good Emmy reels in these past couple of episodes, but the industry is still going to favor even the most mediocre stories and performances on the older soaps. And with the pressure from the government over race I can see the academy shutting out Beyond The Gates to avoid criticism from the administration and the far right media.
    • oh, definitely! It's too bad she hit the start of a rough transition period for the show. She shines, but she's stuck with bad story and some (if not exactly bad) not great co-stars.  Uh, who did Maureen O'Sullivan play? (Sigh--and only if I'd understood exactly who and how wonderful Teresa Wright was in '86) God, the summer of '84 was literally one event after another. Kim's outfit alone must've been worth a small fortune. And poor Maeve. She looks so uncomfortable. Rebecca Hollen told a story on Locher Room where Maeve dropped the f-bomb during the shooting of it. For some reason, she wasn't being listened to, and had just had enough. As a producer, I would've been holding my breath as my pregnant actress kept walking around strange and undoubtably uneven sets in that long skirt.
