They seemed to quickly dump any plans of Trina/Gio for Joss/Gio, then that ended. It was sad to see people going on about how he was Trina's new love interest while he was ogling Joss. Carly Jr is such a scene-killer, I would like to think someone at the show realized, but her lesser airtime is probably a fluke.

I feel like they resent that they got any increased attention or fan support during that story, and presumably resent any focus having to go to black characters. Any time people say the show is scared of Beyond the Gates I wonder why as Frank and co seem very comfortable with returning to a very white-heavy show to me (and it wasn't as if the black canvas was "up and pumping," as Maria Arena Bell would put it, before then either).

I don't mind Eden McCoy in careful doses. I would still recast Joss eventually but I think she has very real BFF chemistry with TA and others, I think she can do well as a schemer or a comic vixen character and that's about it. She is not an A-lead and mercifully, for the moment at least, the show has ceased presenting her as one. I expect that to change again soon unfortunately. They can't resist.

I don't think Ava is a shell so much as so much of what she is was built out from MW's always formidable and high camp performance - she is purely and simply a stylized villainess and operator. They've tried to modulate or neuter the character to keep her more of what they consider 'viable' at times and it's never worked well.

I agree they resent Sprina and are terrified of activating that fanbase (or alienating racist viewers) with a recast. I do think they may face some pressure over representation in the coming months with BTG, and are responding to it in the typical passive-aggressive ways already now with Kai, etc. But I think they would've faced far more pressure if not for the election results we just had. If anything I think that will prove to either FV, the network or both that characters of color are best kept in their niche.

I suppose one advantage of them losing interest in Gio is he would be more likely to be allowed to be a casual fuckbuddy for Trina after all. But I don't think it'll ever happen.

-- Good on you for kicking off a discussion about Gio, a character (and actor) the show has done all, all wrong. GM has personality, and it comes across on the screen. He's actually doing MORE with what's written for him, which is basically nothing.

I cannot believe the way GH has hidden his physique. Makes zero sense, especially with Frank in charge. Likewise, it's nuts that he's shown no interest in anyone. I don't get it. GM is a decent actor and he looks more than good enough to show off.

I agree. They'll never do it. No guts. We'd get a ton of complaints that "Everyone on this show is gay."

That doesn't work for me. I realize that doesn't mean they won't do it, but Joss reads older than Gio in my eyes. Moving her from Dex to Gio is like moving her from an adult to a kid.

Yeah, especially when you can look at her unraveling during his sister’s death and see the writing could be helping her. Instead it’s generic and she is doing all the work.

I also have to say though, as someone that recently lost my mother, I am barely able to watch. And I am kind of relieved it is not stronger writing or I would have to tune out completely.

know it was different times and Lucky was a teen, but compare this to Genie, Tony, and Becky’s truly raw grief during the fire storyline. I could not sit though that right now. But I do miss when the show is less superficial and generic. Or everyone’s sadness about BJ. They even gave Sonny and Carly stronger material with Morgan. But this is the show now and for the foreseeable future I think.

I'm very sorry.

I do agree it's weak for Alexis. I think this loss would pulverize her if not for the show's disinterest in really writing for it, or writing much intense drama period. Any time anyone tries (be it PM or anyone else, really) the oversight and house style kicks in and deemphasizes and drains a lot of life from most initiatives.

It really has. She looks fantastic and it’s seemingly helped give her life as a performer again. She used to look so unwell whenever I’d catch a random episode and I’m not just talking weight.

This throwback was unexpected but so so welcome . Drew is a former marine and also has Jason’s memories, how the hell did he get his ass beat this bad by his self taught thug twin?

Loved Ric remembering Molly’s birthday. And also that last biting line to Alexis about her youngest still being alive. Just wow . Honestly Alexis started it with him this time.

Loved Rocco and Danny saying no matter what they’re still brothers. I actually wish I had gotten to see more of the blended family.

Now Drew is lying to Nina as well . I do think he and Nina need to bang at least one more time to get it as complicated and messy as possible.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I thought perhaps Sam’s demise would drive Alexis to embrace her inner Helena, but doesn’t look like that’ll happen? It would probably be written poorly anyway.

This show has botched JJ’s return as Lucky so badly. What a disaster and a waste of talent on this greasy, unwashed loser. At least Caveman Dante was hot.

    • Same here.  Anyone who voluntarily left Margo's penthouse set (except to go overseas or to Heaven) was immediately on my blacklist.  lol.

    • The penthouse was my favorite set... and it changed hands from Margo to Draper/April to Miles/Nicole then to just Miles... before he opted to give that beautiful place for that drab house with the even more drab Beth.  That was a jump the shark moment for me LOL
    • The storyline April and Draper are involved in during the summer/autumn of 1979 seems fairly "benign" but soon turns very serious.  April has a VERY intrusive, wealthy mother (Margo Huntington Dorn).  Margo knows that April and Draper (who've recently had a miscarriage and are theoretically never going to be able to conceive another baby) want to buy a house.  Margo hoodwinks them into buying a house they can't afford.  The house is listed at $100,000 (about $400,000 in today's dollars).  Margo pays the first $35,000 and leads Draper to believe the asking price of the house is $65,000 instead of $100,000.  If Draper finds out his meddling mother-in-law paid 1/3 of the cost of the home and tricked him, he'll be mad as hell.   Meanwhile, Draper has received a job offer from a prestigious New York law firm.  Margo pulls some strings and has the senior partner in the firm rescind the offer, to keep April in Monticello.  If Draper finds out about THAT, he'll be even angrier with Margo than he will be about the house trickery.  All of that is "bubbling under the surface" in the fall of 1979 but will be the next major story, as everything begins to spiral out of control.   Yep, you've got the Karrs and their very basic middle-class house, the Victorian-themed place where Miles and Nicole live, April and Draper's old craftsman house with the exposed beams, the Madisons & their Mission revival house, and Margo with her 1970s-chic penthouse.  Each of the sets is completely different.  And their budget was like zero, lol.
    • It felt weird and out of place.  I get. While I agree with those on here that he's gotten better, it's still really bad. I'm not seeing the "good" acting some see...but I'll give him a B for being better than when he first started. There's potential. I'll leave it at that.
    • It's like watching paint dry at a slow-ass pace. It's bad acting. Entirely. Excellent? With Claybon? Never. Ever.

    • Ah! Good to hear. Isn't it especially odd to think that house fictionally exists not far from the Karrs?  Or, that it was designed non-fictionally by the same person who designed April's place?
    • Good to know I'm not the only one who noticed that. Strange and awkward, and I don't know what they're doing with those fades.   -- Finally, had to laugh at how many Emmys this board passed out today.

    • That was bad. Product placement is fine, but not here, not now. Besides, no one carries their damn detergent to the living room.   Completely and utterly disagree. I thought Brandon Claybon was excellent today -- maybe his best performance since the show started. No recast needed.   Not unpopular with me. That didn't work. The montage was good, but 5 minutes of Amazing Grace? With all those verses? No. What kind of family breaks into a loud version of Amazing Grace after what just happened??? None. Anita's lecture to Leslie was great. Ending the show -- a really good episode with crackling dialogue -- like that was a mistake.
