They don't even have a kitchen lol.  This penthouse logistically makes no sense.  Is everyone other room in the house just attached to one long hallway?

Absolutely. It's a magical hallway without endless possibilities. Reminds me of a comedy series set.

Since Steve and Kayla's house is basically the same set with a kitchen I wish the show could have figured out a way to keep the OG penthouse and use it for multiple sets. I remember hearing it was just too large, but I honestly wouldn't care if they used it for several different couples.  It's better than what we have now.

So many sets are the same set, just re-decorated to appear different. It's so cheap in every sense of the damn word. Beyond the penthouse, I'd really like to see the original hospital set return. This smaller version of the already small set is just not cutting it.

Was the arched wooden doorway with the wrought iron peephole in Marlena's penthouse?  It was memorable, but seemed out of place with the rest of the architecture.

Also, remember the silly scene in the Melaswen plot when Doc fell from the balcony of her penthouse on the Friday cliffhanger, but landed on an awning?

Yes, Marlena had the wooden door with the peephole.  I loved that touch.  I never thought it was out of place with the rest of the set, but I hated the painting she had right by the door.  It was like Madonna and child or something.  It was ugly.

I thought Marlena fell on Sami when she fell from the balcony lol.  It is possible those were two separate penthouse falls though.

Marlena had a lot of falls from balconies over the years. You think she'd start avoiding them, loll.

Swamp Thing. UGH.

Billie's spawn was DEAD, carried in a suitcase. I think Reilly just could not stand that Bo/Hope had Shawn (Douglas) and seemed to want to even the score - whether it made sense or not.

And then she killed her little brother and happily dated her uncle. Also I preferred the actress that played Chelsea prior to Rachel Melvin a whole lot more. Rachel Melvin and Molly Burnett were very similar to me.

I miss that set so much. This 'townhouse' set is so bland and without character. It's wild that we've had this set for longer than we had the penthouse!

I hate this set so much.

Would it be overshadowing to have Dick Van Dyke return for John's memorial? I wonder how they'll reference his character at all. I would at least have him be an off-screen presence.

For nearly 4 decades, Marlena Evans and I have loved the same man. Marlena’s John is an iconic hero, and unfailingly rescuing her from all matter of villains. My acting partner was incredibly professional from the moment he entered the studio; flawless in his preparation and ready for any eventuality in any scene. He was gracious and kind to everyone, from the executive staff to the night crew. Drake loved what he did and adored and respected everyone with whom he did it. Having said that, we always knew that his two greatest loves were his family and the Yankees. Victoria and their children were truly the center of his life. Drake is dearly loved by everyone who ever knew him and he will be missed beyond measure. We will continue, as he always encouraged us, to swing for the fences.

.

Many of the current and former cast commented on Deidre's IG post.

October 18, 2024 Michael Fairman interview with Casey Moss about his return to DAYS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHlpE1n7zeg

Excerpt from that  Fairman interview, (via twitter video) in which Casey M talks about Drake:

This was wonderful. Usually you see a lot of nice things said about someone when they pass, but Drake truly comes across as the most well liked man there could’ve been in Daytime.

I think it is meaningful how many young actors have expressed their admiration of him.

One gets the sense that there are many soap opera patriarchs who are jealous or dismissive of young talent.  Male actors can have big egos and when they see the next generation take their place as the romantic lead, it can bruise their self-concept.  But, reading these tweets and interviews, you get the feeling that Drake loved being a resource and a mentor to new talent, which is very commendable, and probably rare.
