Finally saw the scenes with Kevin and Gloria Leo and Diana in prison and wow, one minute you'd think someone was sprinkling holy water on a possessed Diana and the next she was channeling a performance from Jessica Lange. I actually enjoy Judith Chapman as an actress; that said, it felt like an episode specifically made for Emmy material for Greg Rikaart and a Special Guest Star Emmy for Chapman. I almost expected Heather Tom to show up since B&B loves to give her one solid "Emmy episode" per year.

Everyone changing the subject every time Abby's name was mentioned had me cracking up today.

Kayla & Stephanie (who finally shared a scene) - “Did you hear Abby might be alive?”, “Yeah, but Everett is coming back and I might like him”

Paulina & Abe, -  “It looks like Abby's coffin is empty”, “Yeah, but I was thinking about restarting Body and Soul.”

Kate & Chad - “Abby might be alive.”, “Yeah, but how about a loan?”

It was like nobody could pay attention to Abby possibly coming back from the dead.  I guess it happens so often, it is like another dark and cloudy day in Salem.

But to do this to a BLACK man who has a long history with this show (not to mention an Emmy)?  Tell me you're a racist [!@#$%^&*], Mr. Carlivati, without even opening your mouth.

I have never been clear why they broke up Chad/Stephanie.  I didn't think they were a great couple or anything, but they broke up too quickly.  There would be actual drama if Chad/Steph were still together and Abby was alive.  There's no conflict at this point.  Chad would be super happy if Abigail was alive and they would resume their married life.  At least Stephanie would have been an obstacle.  Instead, she's wasted on Bobby/Everett.

Also, I saw Abigail Klein on an old episode of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders show and it appears she's a natural blonde.  I get that the show wanted to make AK close in looks to Shelley Hennig, but it literally makes sense for Steve/Kayla's daughter to be blonde.  She looks like an entirely different person blonde, but she's a very talented dancer.  So there's that going for her lol.

Fans hated Chad and Stephanie together and honestly I never saw anything with them besides Stephanie caring for Thomas and Charlotte and the writers are headed towards another reunion with Stephanie and Alex and I'm interested in how the writers will write them a second time around

Funny you should mention Chad and Stephanie, because when I was watching today I wondered if Abby was going to be p/o-ed about them sleeping together, just like Gabi is going to be p/o-ed about Ava and Stefan.

On the one hand, Chad thought she was dead.  But, on the other, it was less than six months later, and most people don't stay dead forever in Salem.    Meanwhile, Gabi and Stefan had only been married for a day when she went to prison.  So, their commitment was much shorter.

The whole time Chad and Stephanie were paired they kept using Abby's name and Chad missing Abby as a factor in that relationship remember how they kept having Stephanie being constantly upset about Chad not wanting to propose to her because he wasn't over Abby I always saw that as a big red flag for this pairing

If you think about it, it wasn’t really planned out all that well.

They were determined to do that throwback to Justin and Adrienne, by having Alex meet Stephanie and declaring her the love of his life, even though they were raised as cousins. Plus, they were also determined to move Chad on from Abigail as fast as they could, without any substance to back up either plot point.

And I think the storyline was a bust solely based on that, even though I did like Chad/Stephanie as a couple as well.

    • This was late 1993, right before Roger is shot.
    • Haha I guess so, and in this recent case, Alan absolutely deserved it (many times over, honestly).
    • It's hard to remember, as Holly and Blake always seemed to be on the outs over something.
    • Ohhh yes, these were exciting!  What year was this?  Another added bonus, watching Tangie lurk around like a thief with that black beanie.

I'm happy to hear I'm not alone in my thoughts over Gilly's exit and Vivian's first and likely only contract storyline. It was just a shame. On one hand, I'm glad they decided to finally write for this family (as Gilly was sorely underused in 1995), but then on the other... that was what they decided? Sure, it was a bit soapy, but oh so gross. They could have come up with something better.
    • Women slapping guys is a little more common.  I grew up with CBS, so it doesn't seem strange to me. If you got a slap, you usually really deserved it.
    • That could be it too. I just remember a slap at some point. That would have been around when she was made at Holly for "ruining" her one-sided relationship with Alan Michael. I don't know if you will be getting to 2000 (if you do - buckle up!) but there's a character who was intended to be Stacy.
    • Agree with all of this. They use stuff like the redecoration and the party as major events and nothing comes of it. Kyle/Claire is of no interest to me because Kyle has already been deeply in love with Lola and summer so his devotion to Claire is more of the same. And Claire is a character that came from a nonsense rewrite and now is presented as Little Miss Innocent, her dark past swept away. That charm bracelet of Nikki's must weigh a ton. The list of grandchildren seemed endless. The thing is, most of them are offscreen and ignored. Victoria seems like a neglectful parent. Was Dylan mentioned? Another dumb rewrite character. Not only is the show hampered by so many vet charcters, TPTB don't seem interested in venturing into new areas with them. Cole was brought by but there hasn't been any dramatic story that could impact on Victoria? What had he been doing all those years? So many characters w/o stories talking about businesses we never see.
    • I thought it was Sherry Stringfield, but maybe it was before Blake slept with Ross.
    • Thank you for the great background and summary - very helpful!  Yes, very odd they never brought her back, but at least J mentioned her, so not truly forgotten. Ah interesting, I guess I never realized that CBS was a bit more conservative/old-fashioned in a way, at least pre-2000 or so. It's funny, I wrote that about slapping, and then a few episodes later, Vivian storms into the Spaulding mansion and slaps Alan. It's like I spoke it into existence.
