I don't know if this has already been mentioned but I just read “The Gates" will shoot at Assembly Studios in Doraville, which is owned by Atlanta-based Gray Television. It will not shoot at Tyler Perry Studios.

Assembly Studios opened in late 2023 according to the article and has 22 soundstages. They'll be neighbors to the upcoming Peacock series “Fight Night” starring Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson and Samuel L. Jackson.

You would think he worked his way up to success.. that he would use his platform to help other up and coming writers/producers.

Shonda Rhimes and Aaron Spelling used their production companies to showcase up and coming talent.

With that said, like you said, the key will be execution of the ideas and who MVJ hires as her breakdown and script writers will be make or break

The studio lot is owned by Comcast/Universal, so CBS will be paying a fee for that space. Interesting, but filming in Atlanta is will naturally generate savings to begin with. Excited to see what the production design looks like and how spacious the sets look. I am hoping for something more similar to The City's production model.

It's smart to pay for the space. I really do think it's smart. More information regarding Assembly in Atlanta:

Assembly Studios

  • 19 sound stages (full specifications can be found here)
  • 4 filmable building facades, mimicking New York brownstones, Tribeca, European cities, and New Orleans

Thanks for sharing @LostinHarmony and @Liberty City

Love that the show will be filmed in a newly built studio. All of the news we’ve gotten so far has been indicating money being well spent to set the series up for success and high production value. I never thought we’d see a new soap let alone a black lead one getting this kind of effort.

I agree; looking at the studio it looks very state-of-the-art! And renting studio space sounds like a smart idea; this is going to be a win-win! CBS & the NAACP are not messing around.

It's also worth mentioning, according to the article, The Gates will air in the 2pm The Talk time slot, rivaling General Hospital in several regions.

There's a very good chance Giddens ends up writing for The Gates.  He knows MVJ and there are new HWs at DAYS who might want to bring in their own writers.

I'm really liking some of the character names. Sam, the brilliant plastic surgeon runs a private practice with his friend and fellow plastic surgeon by the name of Lester Fine. He's a plastic surgeon and his last name is FINE? Lol. Their place on the show also reminds me of that former show called Nip/Tuck.
