New Details Announced (TL; DR) - September 19, 2024:

  • "The Gates" is now called "Beyond The Gates."
  • Key Art/Logo for "Beyond The Gates" released.
  • Soap alums Tamara Tunie ("As The World Turns"), Daphnee Duplaix ("One Life to Live," "Passions") and Karla Mosley are the first actors officially cast by the show.
  • "Beyond The Gates" is a one-hour daytime drama.
  • The series is set to premiere in early 2025. Previously, CBS announced it would debut in January 2025.
  • CBS has formally announced the series will begin production later this fall in Atlanta; confirming the film location (city), but not studio.

  • An official synopsis has been released for "Beyond The Gates."

For the full story, click here.

Note: "BTG" will be the official acronym used for "Beyond The Gates" on the SON Community. Posts/threads created should always start with "BTG:" going forward.

For reference, the current soap acronyms are "B&B" (The Bold and the Beautiful), "DAYS" (Days of our Lives"), "GH" (General Hospital") and "Y&R" (The Young and the Restless). "ALL" is for all shows, while "AMC" is for All My Children.

Also, #BeyondTheGates is the official hashtag to be used on social media, per CBS.

Facebook and Instagram pages have been created, but are not active. Will share the link when they are officially available.

I recently spoke to some folks at CBS. They are truly high on this show and consider it one of their big launches for next season, along the lines of how they promote their new primetime shows. The next six months will be a boon for daytime, IMO.

I wonder how they square that with how terrible their two current soaps look. I'm not even talking about the (lack of) stories, just the overall cringe factor when you turn them on. It would be hard for TG to have that blandness as a lead in and/or would be a disappointment for fans of the rest of CBS soaps if TG has a slicker look (which I expect at least at the beginning).

Here, here. Y&R is beyond bad, worse that Days. Nothing about the show works. Period. I can't speak for Bold as I've never been able to get through an episode since Brad Bell took over and it wasn't great before that.

Good! Let's hope they shell out some bucks & give it a good budget

They can cut  into the This Morning budget and canceling The Talk has to free up a few million. Not only that but, CBS has the damn money.

That sounds exciting, and I hope it pushes them to shake things up at their other two soaps that desperately need some.... help!

No way is Y&R worse than Days. Y&R might be struggling and really cringe but Days feels like beating a dead horse and that’s coming from a big fan of Days lol

Thanks Errol, this sounds reassuring coming from you. This sounds good, as long as The Gates is the priority in this and CBS as co-producer, I would think will prioritize this new show in marketing and promotion and the other shows will benefit from the effects.

Hopefully we'll get the stars on This Morning, TPIR, LMAD, and whatever else is available.

Hopefully MVJ, Sheila Ducksworth and any stars of the forthcoming cast will make appearances on BET, Comedy Central, and the YouTube channels of THR and Variety to get the word out, really expand the reach beyond the usual platforms. Do an interview on Shondaland and Oprah Daily.

Some people might be skeptical of CBS pulling a Fox or WB, and I do admit this has crossed my mind but I am willing to suspend those thoughts and watch the process unfold, and just hope everything is being done for the benefit of The Gates.

@Errol  you were offline in April when I posted this, but back on page 49 of this thread, I asked about doing sports cross-promotions with CBS -- regarding soccer being scheduled to disrupt soaps shortly after The Gates debuts.
(Link to my detailed post)
Is there any way to get that proactively coordinated?  That would really help.

I mean, if you have a way to talk directly with CBS about that.

Can someone explain to me what she wrote on the bold and beautiful and Santa Barbara? Coz the final years of SB were garbage and was there anything impressive about her stuff she wrote for B&B that was sticking out?

Not what you asked but she wrote the Best Catfight on Generations.

Also not what you asked, but at GH she famously wrote the revisitation of Luke raping Laura, L&L2 & their reaction to Liz's stranger rape, and she even touched on Rachel's rape.

STILL not answering your questions but I did find more of what she wrote while at GH. Most of Kevin/Ryan, made Lucy & Kevin a couple, made Lucky & Liz a couple ...

Took me a minute to find your April post as it was on page 50 and not page 49, but I found it.

I think it all depends on what time The Gates is set to air. Just because The Talk was canceled does not automatically mean The Gates will air in its place. I still say there is a high chance it could air immediately after Y&R. We shall see, but I will inquire as requested.
