I think all the classic soaps could do well with a 30-minute streaming, tweaked format.

I'd honestly prefer this be on a streaming platform if anything. I think that this show being 30 minutes would be suitable for it too. An hour of soaps is too much nowadays with the current bunch of writers. They are burned out and not producing at all.

I hope (too) that Michele has total control of the narrative and not much interference. Let her tell her story, her way. Notes are OK but focus on the numbers and leave the story to the writers.

Here's the facts:

The Gates

  • First soap in development since launch of "Passions" in 1999.
  • First soap in development at CBS since launch of "The Bold and the Beautiful" in 1987.
  • First soap about a Black family created by and executive produced by a Black person and Black woman.
  • First soap about with Black people as central figures since the launch of "Generations" in 1989.
  • P&G Studios is a partner in the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture for this potential series.
  • Michele Val Jean remains the first and only Black female head writer of a daytime drama series, and will also add showrunner/executive producer credits as a first as well. Sheila Ducksworth is co-EP and is also Black.

Will add more later...

And she made an amazing statement.

Sheila Ducksworth will also executive produce along with Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereiner “’The Gates’ will be everything we love about daytime drama, from a new and fresh perspective,” said Sheila Ducksworth, president of the CBS Studios NAACP venture. “This series will salute an audience that has been traditionally underserved, with the potential to be a groundbreaking moment for broadcast television. With multi-dimensional characters, juicy storylines and Black culture front and center, ‘The Gates’ will have impactful representation, one of the key touchstones of the venture. I’m excited to develop this project with CBS and P&G, two of the longest and most passionate champions of broadcast and daytime television, and the NAACP, whose enduring commitment to Black voices and artists is both powerful and inspiring. I also want to thank CBS’ George Cheeks, NAACP’s Derrick Johnson and P&G’s Marc Pritchard for their personal involvement and support to take our next step forward with ‘The Gates.'”

    • I was the Beyond the Gates Facebook page and they are speculating about Mike Manning's and Brandon Claybon's real life sexual preferences. I have to sit back and laugh out loud at the pure ignorance. Supposedly, Brandon Claybon is reluctant to kiss Mike Manning because he's married to a woman.

I just can't. Thank God, most people who post on this site have some sense.
    • Jill’s evolution (or devolution?) is interesting. I didn’t even realize she made a couple innocuous appearances as early as the latter half of Season 6. I probably need to do a more thorough rewatch because tangled web Peter weaved sometimes left me so confused and still does…like Gary knowing about Jill being Peter’s sister and all the lies but everyone else acted so oblivious. Obviously the two things that set Jill off the deep end; First was Abby’s threat “The first Mrs Ewing never goes away” and second was seeing Greg use the urn of Peter’s ashes being uses a set decoration/paper weight which she of course stole.

    • That was my thought as well.  I realize Cameron Faulkner always came across as controlling and manipulative, but good lord.  They made him do everything short of killing a puppy on his way out, lol.
    • According to reports, dating to the original report by The Sun, Ben Mitchell was at the top of the list for Ben Wadley to return to the canvas and wanted to give Max Bowden a second chance at the role. Daily Mirror and Radio Times, among others, are further reporting on the return, so I suspect this brief return is going to test some waters. I'm probably in the minority, but I liked Bowden as Ben and hope to see him further excel in the role this time around. Digital Spy is now reporting Bowden's return as Ben Mitchell.
    • Hmmm… are they ever better than the DVD rips we have in tha vault?

    • I don’t think they had to recast Charley. My impression at the time was that they didn’t feel Jo Anderson didn’t fit the perky/cute persona that they wanted/needed when Julianne Phillips left the show.
    • Can anyone suggest a good software program (for Mac) to backend rip? The episodes on ShoutTV seem far superior quality than YouTube. Thanks so much.  https://watch.shout-tv.com/series/3103
    • Thank you Paul! Recently, I have been reading the stories from 1965....the kidnapping of little Jessie by her real parents, the trial that was held, dr Noel and Brooke...and Meg.... 60 years now!!!! I have been searching the 1965 Thanksgiving episode that I think it exists in Youtube, without any luck....does anyone know if this episode exists or it is simple a trick of my mind...it must be so powerful see it!!! The other scene from 1965 is Steve and Audrey's wedding in February 1965!  I wish we can see these classic episodes in streaming one day ... Most of these actors must be dead, I hope we as fans don't die meanwhile we are waiting for this day!
