@Errol Are we to assume the Jacksons are now the Dupres? Betty is Anita, Jessica is Nicole and Sara is potentially Dani?

Not to stir up anything but I do think @Darn’s concerns are valid. We do need a diversity of skin tones, hair textures, etc if this is going to be a good representation of even a family. Colorism is a real issue (even KSJ spoke in somewhat scathing terms of Y&R’s issues with colorism.

In addition to TT, I also said that I want TP and LL and LR because all are talented (TP is also a singing powerhouse), experienced in the daytime soap world and telegenic. We do need to see the skin tone spectrum represented and to avoid those mistakes borne of pathology that have been committed on soaps of the previous generations.

Anita is definitely Betty based on the description of "Patrick." If the Jacksons were the core family described previously, then yes, Dupree is their new family name.

Name changes happen for a lot of reasons, including the retitling of the show's name, but I have a few suspicions about why they changed it from Jackson.

Where’s Obba Babatundé living these days? He was one of the first actors who expressed interest when this was announced, I believe.

So then, Jessica is Nicole and I would assume Sara is Dani? And I'm also wondering why Jackson was changed to Dupree.

It is valid. I agree. My earlier response was not meant in any way to invalidate that.

My earlier reply was only meant to say that Black comes in all varieties and that at least in the case of Karla, she's as Black as me. I am far from "light skin." The light-skinned people I've seen heavily used on TV typically are those who are either mixed race or very similar. I expect with additional casting announcements, we'll even see some darker skin compared to the ladies, but overall, Black is still Black.

Totally and completely; the complaint is so far-fetched and very disappointing, honestly. It's three of many people cast.

Right. Didn't catch that one before.

So, "Jessica" (now Nicole) and "Sam" have a daughter named "Allison":

“Allison” is described as Black, female and in her mid- to late 20s. She’s the miracle baby that Jessica and Sam never thought they’d have. Not surprisingly, Allison has been indulged all her life. She’s spoiled, as a result. She can be dismissive towards those she considers beneath her. Confident and secure, Allison doesn’t like sharing. However, all that may change in the near future…

As "Sara" (now Dani) has two daughters: "Cheryl" and "Jillian". Dani's ex-husband is "Joseph" and Anita's husband is "Patrick".

I didn’t see your response as a dismissal of those concerns at all. One of the things I appreciate most about this message board in particular is the fact that we can discuss these issues and I appreciate it being brought up. It is indeed early casting and I expect to see the spectrum of skin tones and shades represented. I also hope whoever is peeping our comments on this board will be reminded that we are mindful so they should also be mindful.

I admit, I didn’t pay much attention to the earlier character descriptions because I knew there would be some changes. I think of my own writing of characters and there are almost always changes.
