Demorest was last at AMC as a breakdown writer between 2005-2008. He hasn’t worked in daytime since. He was at OLTL as a scriptwriter for less than a year during Malone’s (who he and Nancy were personal friends of) ill-fated return.

Many of the folks PM worked closely with are elderly, retired, happily slugging it out at B&B, or dead, so it will be interesting to see what happens with that team.

Instead of recycling writers, I say bring on some fresh talent.  Not necessarily younger writers, but maybe writers who haven't worked in daytime before.

New-to-daytime writers don’t know the history of the show or its characters which leads to continuity errors and flat-out inaccuracies. That’s why Days’ breakdown writers, script writers, and script editor need to be shown the door ASAP.

You don't want daytime exclusively written by 70 year olds??

Those very familiar with daytime do the same shït (my forcefulness is not directed at you, just the recycle center that is daytime). May as well take a chance on unknown rather than the same old writers who largely get hired because they can handle the insane workload and not because they're good for the genre.

I’m tired of dumb scriptwriters making egregious errors because of their incompetence. An example at Days would be anytime the dialogue suggests Patch and Kayla were around in the 90s and 00s for big events like the possession, Susan, Salem Stalker, etc. Do some research or don’t have a job.

Two examples brought in from outside: Pete Lemay & Hogan Sheffer. Both had good & bad points, naturally, but both were ... fresh, different, etc. And both created at least one Renaissance, Lemay at AW & Sheffer at ATWT. Also, Michael Malone was an outsider & his first go round with Gottlieb and Griffith was insanely brilliant, although he was never able to repeat it. (OLTL

Have there been other outsiders? And, I don't mean network people who crossed over like Rauch & Swajeski.

I want daytime written by people who can write, regardless of age, and who have the freedom to write characters and stories as they see fit to write them, too.

I think you can and should have a mix of old and new talent. I'm not gonna twitch if PM somehow unearthed Harris or got MVJ to defect. Some people are just solid gold. But new talent, voices and attitudes are also essential if this industry is ever to evolve. I remember being quite pleased with the all-new (and diverse) names on the writing staff at OLTL and AMC on Hulu; I think many went on to get subsumed into the network shows.

I agree.

Again, I'm not suggesting I'd want to see exclusively younger writers, because I think that would be a rather ageist attitude to take, and I think there's enough ageism going around in H'wood already.  But why can't daytime look and see whether there are any primetime writers out there who might take soaps in new directions as well?

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.
