Idk, I feel like I don't see any of the old Phillip shining through.  To me he is acting like he is not ready to be out in the real world at all let alone make a play for Chloe.  I thought JPL's Phillip was pretty much universally reviled so I am surprised anyone likes it.

He’s not playing Phillip to me at all. I don’t feel any of the connections he’s supposed to have. But I also skipped most of his first run as Phillip. JKJ will always be Phillip to me.

Also Rafe made me laugh today because finally someone in Salem pointed out that people coming back from the dead in Salem isn’t all that uncommon.

Exactly.  I think JPL is pulling off what he's going for with the role as I think this characterization is intentional.  He's just not playing Phillip.  It seems like JPL is going really hard for mentally unstable and remorse, but that's all the beats he's playing.  I honestly don't think JPL really gets Phillip at all.  In his first run it felt like he was playing a variation of Rex instead of Phillip IMO.  It honestly might be in the writing and direction as well because I don't think JPL is incapable.  He's just off doing his own thing.

I didn't see a lot of JKJ's portrayal (or Kyle Brandt's, for that matter), so I have no strong connection to the character. I like JPL's take on it.

I'm fine with JPL, too -- and I readily admit I did not like his last stint at all, which consisted of various methods of scenery-chewing. I think his work has been very good this time around.

And tbh, I don't know what "There's no connection to Phillip" means. I don't know what the guy is supposed to do to show that connection.

Speaking of which...

I always forget that Phillip has a kid with Mimi.  Has he had any scenes with Bonnie, who saw the kid over the summer, to inquire about his well-being?  It's a little creepy if his son still believes that he's dead, that he is prioritizing Victor's funeral and getting ordained for a wedding at the pub over reuniting with his son.

Also, I get that Rafe is not bright, but how is he planning to arrest Ava in a foreign country?  This feels like the jurisdiction of Andrew and the ISA, rather than bringing half of the Salem PD to the UK, and leaving the policing duties back at home to drunk Shawn D. and that extra with the mustache.

Phillip's child with Mimi is Pocket and was given up for adoption years ago.  He's never mentioned and the only kid Mimi is raising currently is her daughter with Rex.  It would be interesting if Tyler/Pocket came back though.

Right....

That's why Bonnie knew that Sarah was pregnant because she went to see Mimi, the baby, and Rex in Chicago.

Which would have been a better story than this mess with Alex being Victor’s.

At this point I’m ready for Ron C., Leo, RSW, and his other pets to go.

Today was ehhh

It seemed very random and all over the place. And since when is Nicole so content with the fact that EJ sent somebody to kill Ava? I figured she’d be upset about it.

The Li/Trask stuff was random too. I would much rather have seen everything play out onscreen then just hearing them talk about it and then break up.

I liked the Eric/Sloan scenes though.

Whatever happened to Johnny's movie?

Why did Paulina take a drink of Li's used martini?  Gross.  I don't think it's legal to just fire Trask because she doesn't like her.  Paulina didn't even try to make a work related excuse.  Great mayoring!

Weird that Marlena and Kate just popped up in a couple of scenes this episode.  It was strange they were only on for a few minutes.

This Edmund stuff is crazy.  He was just a nice, eccentric man.  I thought Susan was still married to that guy in Memphis as well.

    • Some of those 1988-ish episodes are up. I'm not really sure she did much else. I think I recall something along the lines of she and Rusty had been suspended over the investigation of Nicky, George's supplier. I'm not sure she even gets some kind of goodbye. I think she just disappeared when Pam Long returned.
    • I did not care, just clarifying that was the discussion point. If there are ice cream bars in Statesville I am sure there is a full spa
    • Seeing Peter Bergman (Jack) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) act opposite each other really makes me mad that their short-lived reunion in 2012 was just that... short-lived. I've always loved the Jack/Nikki pairing.
    • No.  I recall there was also a mention about how distracting it was EOB's Gwen wasn't wearing nail polish as well.  That it was someone's pet peeve. And, yes, the fact characters can have a manicure in prison is the wildest continuity issue here.
    • Can anyone remember Mary Ellen Stuart's run as Jenny? I'm trying to fill in the cracks for missing stuff that we overlooked.  Bulletpoints:  * Dated Ross * Rusty's police partner * Directly responsible for Dinah coming forward about George Stewart (Cam's father)
    • But that's not weird... nail polish is allowed in prisons via commissary. Same with general makeup, haircuts, and hair colouring products.
    • This is DAYS, the show that said you could brainwash anyone with simple kitchen appliances.  An actor's nail polish or lack thereof should be the least of our concerns, lol.
    • It was not that she wasn't wearing nail polish, it is that she managed to get a manicure in prison
    • "We're Knot Done Yet": the name of this lovely podcast AND what JVA tells her plastic surgeon at every appointment. In other news, Michele Lee is reminding me more and more of my old music teacher from elementary school, and I couldn't STAND that bitch.
    • I apologize if this has been covered already, but does anyone know whether Douglas Marland was HW'ing by that point?  If he was, then I see what he meant when he said (in so many words) that he had inherited a mess when he started at GH.  Aside from Alan and Monica, none of that material seems very promising.  The story with Mark Dante and the Corbins is the wrong kind of predictable (y'know, the kind where you know what's going to happen, but you just don't give a crap?), the stuff with Scotty and Laura is cute but toothless, I don't know WHAT the hell Gina and Steve Carlson's character are arguing about and Rick Webber has to be the dumbest man alive not to see David Hamilton twirling his invisible moustache over how to make a killing off Lamont Corbin's declining health.  (By the way, "LAMONT CORBIN"?  What is this, "The Shadow"?  And "Corbin Limited" sounds like some jive I'd hear over on Y&R.) In a way, it's kind of like watching today's GH, right down to the dialogue that's serviceable and pushes plot along but says nothing about the characters' inner lives.
