The View is part of the news department, which is why I think there are less complaints as people aren’t picketing news broadcasts as they are not considered struck work. Cable news would have had to stop if those writers where WGA members… Drew and The Talk have or had WGA writers on staff like the late night talk shows…that is where the issue comes from probably.

Won't these show's hurt negotiations for the strike? I can see the other side saying "see? these shows returned, why should we give you what you want, clearly they can survive without you"

That is why the WGA plans to picket.  If a show says that they can go on without writers, it diminishes their value.

It is also kind of tricky that shows like Sheri and Kelly&Mark use their producers like writers, but don't give them credit.  However, that's a separate issue.

Anyone know the difference between The Talk/The View and The Drew Barrymore Show, and why there's uproar for one (TDBS) and not the other?

Drew is more known and had also pulled out of an awards show hosting job because of the strike.

They could’ve just stayed off the air and run ATWT reruns in its place and probably would have gotten better ratings.

That show has been on fumes for many years now. I guess CBS has literally nothing else.

They have been striking at the View the entire time they have been airing new episodes. WGA contracts are complex, and The Talk, Drew, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, and the View all have writers that are part of the current striking contract. News writers have a contract that either expires next year or the year after. Other daytime show writers that are not news or on those shows are under a contract similar to the soap actor contract- it is still valid and not expired.

As of this morning, only Kelly Clarkson’s show had not announced an intention to resume production, but the others either have or are going to. They will be striking them too if they are not already.

The absolute comedy of Ross Matthews and Drew now calling themselves co-anchors. She was incredibly misleading in her statement about resuming her show.
