Errol that’s who I meant not like the vendors or ride operators but people on stage who perform especially since Puppeteers are part of the group…so thanks for the clarification that those vacations won’t be ruined.

ETA: it seems like all cons unless not covered for sag AFTRA are supposed to be skipped by members and San Diego is this weekend

It's a Catch-22 that the daytime talk shows can continue during the strike, but actors cannot be interviewed to promote their projects.

We know Kelly & Mark taped all of their Friday shows in advance, and The Talk went on hiatus, so those are covered, and I guess The View will just do Hot Topics.

If the strike extends in to the fall, it will be interesting to see if the political candidates will appear as guests.  I expect most shows will pivot to lifestyle and political content.  By September, most producers will be preying for a celebrity divorce, a new reality star, or a royal scandal.

I couldn't screenshot the PDF, but the median is $26, 276.00, which is just $6,000 over the poverty limit for a single person household in California.  And, given that the average rent for a 1br in Los Angeles County is $2,850, a person would need to gross $9,500 a month just to qualify to rent an apartment.  So, $40,000 annual salary is 65% below what one would need to survive in LA.

Meanwhile, Bob Iger, CEO of Disney just signed a contract extension earning him 62 Million dollars, in salary alone, not counting stock or property.  So, it is reasonable to expect that Disney could afford to pay actors for audition tapes.

Also, note that the average family of four spends $6,320 on a Disneyland vacation, and there are 51,000 visitors to Disneyland every day, but the costumed cast member is only paid an average salary of $34,916.  The average adult ticket price is $150.00 this year, or 7.6 million per day.  So, I think priorities are a little screwed up if we are only worried about whether some kid will get their picture taken with Snow White this summer.  Especially because 80% of them were furloughed without pay during COVID, so they couldn't qualify for unemployment insurance because their employment was not terminated.

This is why I just cannot get into the narrative that Iger and those of his ilk are trying to spin, whining about entitled writers and actors while they ride around in their chauffeured driven Bentleys.

It’s unfortunate that our celebrity-obsessed culture tends to focus on the celebrities who are the exceptions to the rules. The majority of actors, the majority of writers are journeymen/women. Anyone who has ever gone on an audition (big cities like NYC and L.A. included) or submitted work for consideration knows that it is usually a tough grind, which is the reality for the majority of this craft. I realize that celebrity often draws attention to the cause but I can’t help but think it’s a mistake for these unions not to highlight the everyday members who draw average and below average wages. If the perception is that every WGA/WGAE member is Aaron Sorkin and ever SAG/AFTRA member is Jennifer Lawrence, that is a problem that colors the focus of what these unions are trying to achieve. And frankly these union heads need to fix it.

@DramatistDreamer Iger's narrative only gains traction because of uninformed people like this that don't value the collective bargaining power of the American worker to get their fair share of corporate profits.  I thought Fran Drescher made this point very clear at today's press conference.

@j swift I thought that number was staying at the Disney resort…not a family staying off site. I do think what they did to the workers so no unemployment was awful. Most kids don’t get the reasons behind the strike. BTW not against the strike, just saying.

Performers in Soaps, Variety, Reality, Game shows and Talk shows will continue their work as their contract with SAG AFTRA , The Network TV Code is in effect thru July 2024.

Its unfair the contracts do not start and end at the same time. They all pay the same dues.

Netflix and other streaming services don't want to pay residuals? So, do they really expect to get the content for free? The greed & arrogance of it all! I think the strike is sad to see, but necessary.

I am curious though. Is this - and the actor's strike - going to affect all Amazon projects, such as the ones overseas, like the Neighbours return?

    • Interesting.  Does CHCH have this as an arrangement?  Or is CBS unaware that that CHCH didn't preempt for Memorial Day, and is still ahead?
    • Olivia did have a good reason for what she did. Still, I'd think she would be slower to pass such harsh judgment on Lois since she knows what she herself lived through. I'm hoping we get a softer Olivia when she reflects on everything.   I'm going to disagree with this. I don't think the character has been ruined and trashed, and I don't think it's impossible to come back from this. Yes, a great case can be made that this is out-of-character for Lois, but I can also make a case for people doing out-of-character things when life deals us crazy and impossible moments. Because of the story we're getting from this, I think it was worth putting Lois into this situation.

    • Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum but I have been a soap opera fan for only a few years. I started watching General Hospital in the 2010s on tv due to boredom. It wasn't good but it was okay enough to get curious about the soap opera genre. When I eventually got internet I started researching 90s and 2000s General Hospital. I have started only recently researching 80s and 90s Days of Our Lives. I was shocked when I found out that a black soap opera is going to be made, especially because the genre as a whole was on a downward trajectory. Now here I am as a black woman seeing a soap opera from the start. I'm all for Beyond the Gates succeeding.

    • That was so surprising to me today. I didn’t see any spoilers that this was coming up so I loved it!
    • Well, VI was leaving, and while Long admits that killing him was stupid...I do agree with letting him go with a big bang...body missing.  They spent a lot of time and money on Infinity, (which I think might have gotten a bit of a better reputation had it not been the harbinger of a total tonal change with the Bauers and Reardon's decimated and its all Reva and the Lewis and the weird people hanging out around Kyle) so they needed it to end dramatically. They could have done so much more with having Alex go after Kyle and Billy, but that ends and she starts moping over weird and boring Simon. With Kurt..what were you going to do.. cute but boring and perfect and with ties to no one (they had a nice little thing where Bea took him under her wing when everyone left but then she did too..) If they had the balls they would have had Rick and Mindy jump in the sack ( I know, Mindy should have learned birth control by then) I would have had it be Mindy who knows about Rick's drug use and she tries to help him...(not that nobody who came and went) of course, Kurt and Roxie misunderstand..that on top of her bad Sampson Girl thing leaves him to leave her temporarily, and in grand soap tradition, Rick and Mindy console each other (again, I would write it that they always really did, and Mindy rushed into things with Kurt) and she gets knocked up, and loving Rick but also Kurt she chooses to believe it is Kurts (which I could see Princess Mindy doing "My life is perfect and I will it that way, this is Kurts kid")But, she had the dumb model thing, then she burned down the house he was building, she tried to get prefers and he dies (but also Kobe was the one who built him up, then she was gone when he was let go.) Ross believe it or not is one of the last of the "old guard" characters, beside Ed (who is now FauxEd) and Maureen, and Henry and Van (who is ties to being the Lewis family mope.) JVD has made jokes that they didn't write him out as they simply forgot that he was there! Reva doesn't even call her mother when she comes back! I never saw the use of Sarah but they could have reunited them and sent her and Hawk out of town together. Hell, I don't like the Shaynes but she should have mentioned Roxie and Rusty.  The weird thing is that Dylan had a ton of story and was very important to the Van/Bridget baby custody story. By the time Reva comes back Dylan had only been gone a year so its not like people wouldn't know him..( I liked him and Bridget together...) So he comes back in 97 and acts like it's no big deal Reva is alive so they must have talked off camera. But Reva was too busy squacking about that annoying toothy Marah and blank Shayne to talk about anything else.  It's not quite as weird as Van, who obsessed over Peter, comes back to SF and never mentions him...i.e. "I saw Peter this weekend and he so barely remembers me but he is happy with Bridget and Dylan...")
    • Excellent! The OLTL-GH promo places this and the RH episode (which I assume aired directly before this AMC) as airing during the week of Aug. 20.
    • Thanks! There's never enough early 1980s AMC around.    The only actor I don't recognize is the actress playing Wanda, Mike's agent.
