This is the one area in which Y&R went cheap for the 50th. The font is terrible, the concept makes no sense, and the black background behind the logo is a no, no. Going from black & white to color for the cast shots is an interesting choice and is the only part I liked. The background with the skyline was a bad idea.

The skyline is unnecessary but I guess it fits with Josh Griffith's (crappy) notion of big corporate battles.

The couple walking is a good concept but the framing/pacing looks looks wrong.

Font looks dated.

Like the last opening some of the shots aren't very flattering. We need to see our people looking their best.

It's a change from the last opening but is it an improvement?

They should have incorporated ideas from the various openings. Start with Y&R logo (80's) being drawn -go with b&W sketches (70's/80's)  turning into the color glamour shots ,maybe against a billowing background(2000's) Finish with the couple walking (2010's)

That’s not an official opening.. right? Right????

what to the actual F. ? This is one time where I would prefer just a small Y&R opening like they do on primetime with their shows.

it reminded me of The Edge of Night for a second just with Cast Members added.

The concept is cute, but the execution is CHEAP! And it should've been the jazzier theme, too!

It looks dreadful. If they were going to do one for the 50th it should've been based on the early openings:

They also shot [some] of these opening shots recently... because, Melody Thomas Scott's hair is shorter than the cast shoot when the opening was supposedly shot.

I have an aversion to soap opera openings where the cast turns into camera.  It is so forced and everyone looks so odd when they turn.

Also, the font used for the credits has no reference point to the original opening which was iconic.

I like the women and man walking hand in hand towards the logo against the night skyline.

With the merging of the two simultaneous threads, some context got lost ...

As mentioned earlier, the silhouette of the (headless) man and woman walking at the beginning is MTS and EB in their gala wardrobe.

The opening used to end with the silhouette of (headless) Michelle Stafford, but that's gone in this new opening.

If they planned to fade from black & white to color, they should've made sure everyone wore vivid colors (like Melody Thomas Scott's red dress).  A lot of them are foolishly wearing black or white.

Having someone fade from "black & white" to "black & white" is sorta redundant.

at least the music is the same

The new opening is so cheap! It's garbage!! Before you know it they'll go the ATWT route with just a logo opening with no music. It's coming!  Just watch!

Good point.

Maybe instead of a generic skyline , as the actors are shown, the background reflects their characters home or work. eg clip of Nikki in the living room, Abby at Society, Devon at the penthouse, Sharon at CL etc That might become dated, especially at the rate that characters change jobs and you have the issue of characters that don't have a home or workplace set.

What do you think?
