Webmaster Errol Posted April 1, 2022 Webmaster Share Posted April 1, 2022 CBS will once again preempt its daytime lineup, particularly on the West Coast, over four non-consecutive days for live coverage of “UEFA Champions League” games beginning Tuesday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 6; and again on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13. The preemptions will primarily impact the West Coast airings of “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” while “Let’s Make a Deal” will be impacted in markets where it is regularly scheduled to air after “The Talk.” The daytime talk show will not broadcast on either coast on the aforementioned dates as it is preempted nationally. Only “The Price is Right” will air uninterrupted. The games will begin at 3:00 p.m. ET on CBS and via streaming service Paramount+ with each showing different teams playing in the competition. A pre-game show, “UEFA Champions League Today,” will air at 2:00 p.m. ET in place of “The Talk” which will be fully preempted. Viewers living in markets impacted by the preemptions can keep up with the latest episodes which will be made available on the CBS App, CBS.com, and Paramount+, or check local listings for overnight airings. Photo by Kovop58/Shutterstock Ratings for the games thus far have proven to be unspectacular for CBS with the first four games attracting less than one million viewers on either day, a far cry from the average watching CBS’ regularly scheduled programming. What follows is a list of dates CBS daytime programming will be preempted or aired overnight in the Mountain and Pacific markets (check local listings). Tuesday, April 5 – Manchester vs Atlético MadridWednesday, April 6 – Chelsea vs Real MadridTuesday, April 5 – TBAWednesday, April 6 – TBA “UEFA Champions League” is an annual competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations as the remaining top 16 clubs in the European tournament each vie for the Coupe des Clubs Champions Européens (aka European Cup) trophy. Members janea4old
My above posts quote tweets from "CBSSportsGang" which is the twitter of CBS Sports PR, and from "CBSSportsGolazo" which is the name of the CBS soccer pregame/postmatch analysis show. Can you find out if they are preempting for the semifinals, too? -------------- B&B supervising producer Casey Kasprzyck tweeting post from @Errol I wonder when he learned of this? Webmaster Errol Posted April 5, 2022 Author Webmaster Share Posted April 5, 2022 Networks don't necessarily alert their shows of scheduling changes that far in advance, particularly daytime. When I first learned of the UEFA scheduling issue in February it wasn't too far off from when the soaps did as well. I believe only "The Talk" had some advance notice, but not by much.
Members janea4old
We know that CBSSports and CBS soaps can talk to each other. They did it better when there was a "CBS Daytime" division at CBS, which doesn't exist anymore. But even now they still do cross-promotions. They just had B&B and Y&R actors promoting March Madness basketball. They could have done a similar thing with the CBS soap actors promoting soccer coverage, with a mention that the soaps can always be viewed online.
Members edgeofnik
Weren't the first batch of ratings for soccer poor - not just for CBS, but Daytime generally? If so, I wonder what CBS' ultimate strategy is here unless they severally overestimated interest.
