He had wanted Roger Howarth's Franco to whisper in Carly's ear (I think) and reveal he had Michael raped after all when the Carly/Franco pairing went south, but got vetoed either by the network on Frank Valentini. In retrospect, it is kind of shame that they wrote Gwen into a corner, because her pairing with Xander had promise, and that age bracket needs a vile, but not murderous, antagonist to balance Gabi and give her more audience sympathy. Story idea: Ciara brings back the Countess Wilhelmina cosmetics line with a product to protect your complexion while wearing a latex mask, she makes a fortune, and Ben can stop pretending to try to get a job and just workout all day. He always takes a character too far, then blames the audience and twists the knife.
